  1. Check out This Post. That should have all the information that you need for uploading. Of course you will need a cd burner (naturally), and software to burn with. Also you may want to look into d/l an open source audio editor like Audacity in order to adjust the volume of the uploaded .wav files. Hope this helps some.
  2. I have to say that I have had no problems as of yet for my NH900, I am very much enjoying it thus far. So no, you aren't the only ones.
  3. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=72 Unfortunately there is nothing to enable uploading to pc from the original netmd's .. Hence, the MZ-NH900 above the N707 in my sig. Just be careful and take your time doing the hack, and of course... at your own risk. read the thread and posts first.
  4. I'm thinking Shermy may have meant sensitivity as in "high/low", not recording level... Just a thought. Also, I could swear that I am able to manually increse decrease the recording level on my Sony N707 while it is recording...

  6. I have to say that after 2 years of tumbling out of my pockets/bags-being kicked-dropped down stairs-fallen in sink-left out in the rain-constantly being sat on, my N707 has never had that problem... After all of said occurences (and more) my N707's only issue is the cover occasionally doesn't open or close properly, and i sorta have to nudge it to the side for it to open/close. Still has all of the screws in the cover to boot! Glad to hear about this incident though, know now what to look for if I ever come across that one.
  7. I agree with getting a small cord to keep the mic at least somewhat away from the unit. The vibration and motor noise from the MD writing could cause the static you are hearing. Also, just wondering, when I got my NH900 it came with some clamp filter things for supposedly filtering electromagnetic stuff, plus there were about 5 attached to my usb cable and headphones, etc . Would something like that help for this kind of situation once an extension is attached to the mic? Could it be some kind of electromagnetic interference that the mic is picking up, or generating itself?
  8. Supposedly gold-plated plugs are better quality and resist corrosion. However, since gold is an inherently soft metal, I would assume that they would wear out quicker... I could be very wrong in this, but hey, it makes sense to me. Anyone else have thoughts?
  9. I updated the link a few posts back... Should work now.
  10. Okay, now I know that the supplied "gumstick" rechargeable for the NH900 is crap, and I am looking into getting a better one... In the meantime... If I have the external battery adapter thingy hooked up, does the unit pull from the external battery before pulling from the rechargeable? Or is it the other way around? Or does it pull from both at the same time? I did notice that if you replace the dry battery the status window doesn't change to reflect the new battery until the unit is turned off and on again, which would lead me to beleive that it is pulling from the rechargeable first. Pulling from the rechargeable first would make the most sense to me, but hey, it's Sony right? Any thoughts?
  11. That threw me off for a bit too..

  13. The sounds might be tripping up the ATRAC encoding. I had a similar thing happen while I was recording a combination of tibetan singing bowls, and a detuned acoustic 12-string guitar being played with an electric drill (some of my more experiemental stuff). I am going to do a test with similar sounds using Hi-MD PCM recording -vs- Hi-SP/Hi-LP ATRAC+, or MD SP/LP2/LP4. The original recordings with the weird sounds were done on an N707. It was more noticeable on the right channel, which was odd... Just a thought, could be something completely different.
  14. Along the lines of field recordings... I had quite a time this past summer recording the millions of periodical cicadas (magicicada septendecim) that emerged near my home... Here is a link to a recording of a very slow-moving train with the cicadas in the background. Did this recording with my N707 and small radio shack stereo mics... Periodical Cicadas, Railroads Love field recordings... Enjoy... :Edit: I just realized you were from MD, Kurisu... I grew up there, about ~50 min. west of DC & Baltimore. :Another Edit: Updated the link to the file... Should work now. It is the "short" version of the recording for the time being, but I should have the longer version up soon.
  15. I'm unsure about starting in group mode on the NH900, possibly you can set this in Menu/Option/Disc Mem. Just a thought, haven't tried this.. You may have to have the disc itself named for this to work, but again, I am unsure. Also, you may have figured this one out by now, but the beep can be turned off by going to Menu/Option/Beep. Let me know if the group thingy works for you under disc mem. I haven't used group mode with any MD's yet, but I have a feeling that I will be using it with my new Hi-MD. -- ra in th eo ry
  16. After 3 days of having my new NH900, I can admit that I haven't yet dropped the thing. I have been *extremely* careful with it. It's good to know that it seems that it could handle a drop if it came down to one. While I've been out and about I've actually been keeping it in my pocket/bag/etc. and controlling it completely from the remote, so far. I still remember a couple years ago the day I got my N707 it took a very nasty spill down a loong set of concrete stairs, finally slamming into a brick wall at the bottom. o_0 The battery came out during the fall, and the disc flew out, but I can honestly say that the unit still works fine to this day. And i think it may have helped in some way because I am probably the only one I know that hasn't lost any of the screws from the face of the N707. Since that first drop, I couldn't count with two hands how many times it has fallen, been kicked, left out in the rain/snow, stepped on, etc. I am very excited about the NH900, I still haven't used it enough to utilize all of the features and such, but so far I am in Hi-MD heaven. --- raintheory
  17. The original settings for the N707 stated in this thread - http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=72 worked to reset my recorder, which is also a 1.4.... :? if these are the ones you have tried then I have no clue why its not working...
  18. My N707 took a nice spill down a set of 20 some concrete stairs while I was opening the package that it came in. I almost cried, I was sure I had killed it. But surprisingly enough, over a year later it still works fine. I would agree that it would be better to save the money you would spend on a repair and put it towards a Hi-MD recorder.
  19. Wondering if anyone has tested the effectiveness of the "Mic Sensitivity" option that can be enabled via hack with the N707? And per chance if this would help at all with the distortion encountered without a battery box during live recordings, or if a battery box is the way to go. thanks!
