Nope. Nope. AtracCD is not intended for a backup, only for a dead-end playback system. Don't mislead the OP. The one at Radioshack, the DNE050PSBLK doesn't support Atrac. None of the models listed at Sonystyle has optical out. The most recent Sony PCDPs that have optical out is the NE20 and NE920, both are discontinued. Even on units that have optical out, AtracCD can only be outputted through the analog-out. And is it really wise re-encoding Atrac3+ 48kbps (to get 490 songs)?
-
AtracCD is only playable on AtracCD devices, nothing else. There is no way to extract the music from AtracCD, period. It's a dead-end format.

With so many cheap small flash MP3 players out there, why would you risk damaging your RH1?
-
C'mon, it's Sony we're talking about here, anything illogical is their cup of tea.

For the gold standard of secure ripping, use EAC. I'd rather use EAC than depends on whatever "smoothing" Sonicstage is doing.

HELP! Had to reinstall XP without SS being backed up!
pata2001 replied to Karmageddon's topic in Software
I just couldn't remember when Sony put the no copy protection option. As long as you know you didn't check the copy protection checkbox, you should be able to just re-import the tracks. -

pata2001 replied to Karmageddon's topic in Software
If those tracks were ripped without copy protection (SS4.x or later), you're fine. If those tracks were ripped with copy protection, you're screwed. Welcome to the world of Sony. -
Yup. Playlist is the substitute of a "disc." So instead of having multiple discs, you'll have multiple playlist, each having the specific orders to your liking. Just play the playlist.

Here's a ~US$30 sound card that can do 24bit 192khz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829120103 It has optical out too.

Does Hi-MD better have sound quality over the Ipod?
pata2001 replied to minidisciskewl's topic in The Loft
Funny thing is, why post something about iPods in an MD board? More like a flame-bait. If people keep questioning about iPods SQ on an MD board, maybe that's the sign that people are itching to move to iPods. -
For that kind of money, you could simply build a PC (that thing is pretty much a heavily customized PC anyway) and get more flexibility, and probably still have money left to buy some CDs.
-
Wow, that looks like a dud. My RH1 feels solid. The question is, will Minidisco have a replacement?
-
How many times we have this topic already? Blu-ray is optical, MD is magneto optical, 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGY. It's like asking Sony to make a DVD Betamax.
-
1. That is correct, on a DAPs use folder based browsing. On DAPs that use ID3/database browsing, filenames don't matter anymore. MD uses a database (TOC). If MD use a true folder based browsing, it will have the problem. 2. Depending on the DAP model, some models feature on-the-go playlist where you can create your own order of tracks on the fly. 3. I can't see why this is a problem on any DAPs, as long as the filename/ID3 tags are the same. 4 & 5. True, for an MD recorder. MD players, downloaders, and obviously Digital Audio Players cannot do this. I don't think there's anybody denying MD's recording abilities. A DAP is a player, so pointing out that a player not being able to do what a recorder does is just obvious, isn't it?

Way to go OT on your own thread...

What kind of DVD is it? 1. If it's DVD-audio, there's no way to rip it digitally. All you can do is to record it via analog from your DVD-audio player to a PC analog-in or MD analog-in. Record it to WAV or PCM. 2. If the DVD has a DVD-video content, you can rip it using any DVD-ripper, and convert the dolby digital track to sound format of your choice. Unfortunately, ripping a commercial DVD is illegal per the DMCA. Google is your friend.
-
Or maybey it's because they tried and were frustrated by it?
-
Exactly. Go to almost any stores that sell computer electronics and you'll probably find a DVD burner for cheap. Try finding another HiMD unit if yours break down due to wear and tear transferring gigabytes of data.
-
No. Japanese MD/HiMD recorders don't come with blanks.
-
Why? Can't you just buy some good DVD blanks? Faster data transfer, better compatibility, reliable enough, and no wear and tear on your precious HiMD unit.
-
No it's not. Blu-ray and CD are optical, while MD is magneto-optical. The reliability of rewritable optical media is nowhere near magneto optical. The logical course of action is flash based memory, like sector said, and in Sony's case Memory stick.

What is the lifespan of a minidisc?
pata2001 replied to Sony_Fan's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
[sarcasm]Why the hassle? I used my sharpie, wrote "Bose" on my HiMD blank, and it automatically sounds crystal crisp. If I used an actual cut-out "Bose" logo, it will increase the bass definition. [/sarcasm] -
Yes you can. It's called playlist. Even better, there's smart playlist with live updating where it can automatically cycle your songs. Why should Sony focus on a dying propietary format? By a year or 2, flash memory will be so cheap that even any advantages of MD/HiMD as a media will be less and less. Today you can already get 1GB flash memory for under $15. As for sound, digital is digital, as long the device use good decoder chip/amp/etc, the device will sound good whatever the source is. Sony themselves are already cutting corners on their network walkmen (noisy output). MD/HiMD had their potential, and MD in fact was a success (in Japan). But this is 2007. Other technologies are advancing while Sony could'nt even figure out how to market HiMD before it was too late.
-
MD is magneto optical, UMD is optical like DVD/CD, so the answer is no. 2 completely different technology.

What kind of answers expected by this question in an MD board? Self pat on the back?
