First, the switch on the battery is no switch. It is simply a reminder for you, if you have more than one battery, that you can mark the battery for recharging. The 'switch' has no effect on the charging itself, as it doesn't has any electrical connection. When the charging doesn't start, then most likely the battery is dead. I say, follow the link, 15 bucks is a good price for that battery.

I would keep the 10. to 16. March 2005 in mind. It is the CeBit in Hanover/Germany. The next important date is the 2. to the 7. September 2005 in Berlin, the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung). Both trade fairs are regularly used for announcements for new models and equipment.

And the reports of a less than ideal sound from the HD-amp made me take the NH700 instead, fully knowing, that the analog headphone amp's characteristics take a backseat under a resistive high impedance load. And it did. The sound via my home system is very clean and neutral. And that is, where it would be used most of the time. Speaking of the codec, I have yet to find any music, that trips up Atrac3+ at 256k aside from that castanet thingy from the other thread. So far, no complains from me either.

The NHF800 is an import model, that could be the reason. Btw, the NH700 is £119,--, the 600 is £99.99 and the NH1 is £224,-- , so the ratio is correct between the models. Aaand, they are cheaper than here in Germany. Could it be the first time, that the punters in old blighty don't get fleeced?

Spectrum analyzation of WAV, 256kbps ATRAC3+, 132kbps ATRAC3
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
It's simple. Make some recordings in both modes and decide for yourself. For me, 64k is not good enough. -
Spectrum analyzation of WAV, 256kbps ATRAC3+, 132kbps ATRAC3
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Unless your ears are defective from working in an extremely noisy environment (e.g. Jet engine maintenance & testing ), you should hear a considerable difference between Hi-SP & Hi-LP. Hi-SP(256k) is far better and 99% CD-Quality. At the same bitrate Atrac3+ is better. -
Upload recordings to a .wav onto pc faster than realtime.

The download link on digital-digest seems to be dead. ("Cannot find server") However, StokeBloke has it too: http://www.stokebloke.com/video/wmv2avi.php -
Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part III]

Pulling the wall wart out the wall is always recommended, when it is not in use. A, it is safer, B, it saves on electricity. If everyone in the USA would pull out the wall warts, when they are not used, 1 nuclear power plant could be shut down... -
Well, for that price take Totalrecorder instead. Or if your soundcard-driver offers recording off the wave channel, Audacity already does the trick. And it is always a good idea to check, what has been delivered with the soundcard. Most cards come packaged with a wave recorder/editor, which can be used as well.

This is surely anonymous enough, the problem with guest posting is a different one: Trolls, trawlers and other unsavory folk dropping their feces here off. And for that very reason, guest posting should be disabled forever. The latest one going to registered only is the LJ-community of Carpediem: http://www.livejournal.com/community/carpe...omic/32658.html Reason: People, who cannot behave...

You need an external amplifier, like Reactivesounds' Boost Box.

RF-interference from nearby transmitters, notably AM-radio and shortwave transmitters. In most cases, they are not necessary, but if you hear things, that shouldn't be there, you should use them. The short remote cable is the smallest problem here, the biggest one are long cables into a home stereo or a long microphone cable.

I think, his screen resolution is the problem here. The browser window must have atleast a width of 1042 pixels on the inside. His screenshot is 800 pixels wide. And the clip controls show the window maximised. Closer inspection reveals, that the edit window and the 'Jump to' listbox are setting the width needed. Possible solution: cut down on the descriptions in the listbox, especially this entry: <option value="f15">| |--Importing and the Japanese MD/Hi-MD scene + MD/Hi-MD Media Discussion</option>

Want a NICE cheap soundcard with digital out and more?
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Digital in is missing the components on the PCB. For that, you have to use a different card. When buying a soundcard, make sure, that it doesn't resample the output. Ask the dealer specifically for an output sample rate of 44.1kHz. And that soundfiles with that sample rate are not changed in any way, when played back through digital out. On the input side, soundcards always can handle 44.1kHz. This card here uses the VIA Envy24 chip, cards with this chip have true bit playback. Expect Envy24 cards with digital in starting roughly at 90 bucks... -
Sony MZ-E730/630, JVC XM-C31 + XM-S51 & Sharp SD-FX20.
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in News
Well, I don't understand Sony here, why more old-MD units? Unless someone needs extreme running times, it makes no sense... Btw, make it 4Watts per channel for the boombox. -
Screenshot? Easy! Make the browser window active (click into it), press and hold the ALT-key then press the Print-key. Now start MSPaint and with Ctrl-V you paste the screenshot into the paint program. Now save the thing as .jpg (JPEG-file) and send it off... And speaking of IE: Don't use it. Not only doesn't it support all current Web-technologies, it has some real nasty security holes as well - including one, that allows to install a virus by dragging the scrollbar-slider... Better alternatives: www.mozilla.org, www.opera.com , www.getfirefox.com

Oh, and Joey, have your Shift-key fixed, please. ALL-CAPS is similar to shouting and our ears are still in good working order.

No. Music downloaded onto MD from a pc cannot be uploaded again. To get that music back onto the PC, you have to go the old route: Through Line-In. Or in case of a Hi-MD-unit, record it off the USB... However, to move your library from your old pc to the new one, use the SonicStage backup then do a restore on the new pc after installing SonicStage on that one. To transport the backup to the new pc, use a suitable medium. I use an external USB-Harddisk for that.

I'm back to the old SubTrail skin, it is gentler to my old eyes. In addition, the new style misses the promo links.

If you have a decent internet connection, the 2.1 is available here: http://connect.com/download.html One warning: It downloads a 580kByte exe-file, then when you start that, another 40 MBytes will be pulled. Not advisable to do that via 56k-Modem or GSM-Data.
-
And when it is full, well it is full...

2.0 was a nightmare, 2.1 runs with the occasional trashed upload.

I've bought an album on iTunes shop and the 128k AAC they delivered sounds like crap. It was the first and the last time, they've seen any money from me. If I want crap, I'll go on Kazaa or Grokster but for 10 bucks per album, I'll expect something better. Much better. So, if iTunes can handle Hi-MD including upload and titling, fine for me as the GUI is much better and the stability too. But the shop - no. *barf*

Hmm, why not order from MiniDisco and pay with a money order. While I never would pay for an ebay-auction with a money order, Minidisco is quite known around here and has its own group here.

RIP all of your MiniDisc to PC into WAV format
jadeclaw replied to DJ_THE_CROW's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
No, you're right here. Uncompressed wave does need big discs... FLAC or any other lossless compressor alleviates the problem somewhat but you will still end up with about 100GB for the 200 discs.
