  1. I've had this happened to me as well, but I think I know, what it is. It happened to me, when I was using some older BASF MD Maxima discs to transfer some vinyl stuff into SonicStage. Hi-MD-mode is more sensitive to disc quality than old MD ever was because of the higher density used here. Read errors can also manifest, when a file uploads without a problem but an error occurs, when you try to convert it to a different bitrate. My recommendation: For live recordings, always use good quality blanks, like TDK, Maxell, Sony or Fuji. Stay away from Memorex, BASF and Taiwanese/Korean junk. And don't use the oldest discs in your collection either. I don't know much about the HHB-blanks, but HHB claims that their discs have a much lower error rate than regular MDs. About your non transferrable track: If it plays on the NH700, record it off the USB, if it doesn't play, you have to repeat the recording. One word about transferring: If you have a valuable recording, that cannot be repeated, DON'T upload it, record it directly off the USB-playback. Why? Because you can only upload a track once. Even if you tell SonicStage to leave a copy on the MD, you cannot upload it again. Not even to the same PC. Even if you delete the track from SonicStage, you cannot upload it again, despite the fact, that it is still in its entirety on the MD. And to edit it in SonicStage, you have to tell it to delete the original track from the MD and if SS crashes in that moment, the recording is gone. Already happened to me.
  2. I don't know, how much he wants to invest, but in my opinion, his usage profile points to this one: http://www.d-mpro.com/users/folder.asp?Fol...18&SubCatID=169 (Warning! Server is slow, they are using Windows for webserving)
  3. And using standard rechargeable AA-cells. A 700mAh cell is included, aftermarket suppliers offer up to 2300mAh.
  4. Mute all inputs except Wave in the volume/mixer panel. In addition, go into preferences in Winamp, select 'Plugins' --> 'Output', select the 'DirectSound output', click on 'Configure', select the 'Device' tab, select your soundcard instead of 'Primary Sounddevice' from the topmost Dropdown-list. You might try out the checkboxes below that as well, especially the 'Create Primary Buffer' one. If all fails, then it is a hardware problem, most soundcards resample everything to 48kHz sample rate. And to cover up their crappy samplerate converters, dithering noise is mixed into the signal to cover resampling artefacts. And that noise triggers continuously the level detector in the MD recorder. Solution: A better Soundcard, that doesn't resample. The specs must specify 44.1kHz samplerate on digital out.
  5. I decided on building an active microphone myself, when I'm done, I'll put it up on my website and post the link here, so if you're interested, then you can use it. The amp is usable with a separate mic as well.
  6. Remember, MDR is Sony's general type designation for Headphones. Simply read the specifications and take one with a low impedance and you're set.
  7. *Shakes head* Why are some people so dumb, they can't even read the simplest instructions... To the file itself, nice atmosphere here, sounds very good. Only the mic amp adds quite a noise here. Dex, you should learn to use a soldering iron, saves you quite a lot of money...
  8. No effect. The only thing I would like to know, if anyone else has a similar problem. If I'm the only one, I have to do some investigations on my own. Since I can live with it, you shouldn't be too concerned about that.
  9. Reduced the minimum fontsize down to 8, doesn't help. And it doesn't explain the behavior in IE as it isn't possible to adjust the fontsize there. I checked the CSS myself, including the imported formIE and there is nothing, that could create that effect. On the other paw, switching my browser to user mode corrects the problem. Trust me, I'm at a loss here as well. The nested tables maybe...
  10. I'll make one and put it up for your viewing. Link follows in a few minutes here. Here ya go (warning to dial-up): http://www.jadeclaw.de/forum1.jpg When I scroll to the right, I find the rest: http://www.jadeclaw.de/forum2.jpg I also checked the source, the textbox has the " cols='50' " set, that is normally as wide as it is in the regular post screen. And pasting the code segment containing the textbox into a file and displaying it in a browser window reveals no problems. I guess, something is fishy in the CSS in the 'post' class. Problem appears in IE, Opera and Mozilla.
  11. 1280 by 1024. The text box almost fills the whole width of the browser window, which fills nearly the whole screen, but that happens even in fullscreen mode.
  12. Well, except for the noise level, Hi-LP 64k/48k can not hold up against my old Aiwa AD 3500 Tape deck. But seeing, what is sold today in the lower price range, especially the twin cassette decks with high speed dubbing - compared to that Hi-LP sounds great...
  13. Very well done, but the old one should be available as an alternative choice. Found a bug: The 'Select a forum' listbox and the access rights status are pushed out of the browser window on the right side. But only, when the quick reply is visible. Hmm, making the textbox smaller should fix it... WinXP, Opera 7.52 and Mozilla 1.6
  14. Looks very good I say. Even with the stripes.
  15. This one: Tascam MD-801RmkII Hope, that Tascam makes a Hi-MD version of this one...
  16. The rated power denotes, what the headphone can take. If the source is specified with 5mW, then the headphone won't produce more than that. If the impedance of the headphone is higher than the impedance of the source, the power is even less.
  17. You should get a second e-mail, confirming that the goods are indeed had been shipped. That's how it went with my order. Btw, I've got one of the last units, that where in stock. now everyone has to wait. a few weeks... I expect, that Amazon's proceedings are identical, regardless of the country.
  18. Not necessarily, the problem with current Hi-MD recorders is, they are build for low power consumption. And that means slow and weak motors. And looooong seek times. A first generation CD-ROM drive is ten times faster in seek times. Solution: Pack the files into a ZIP-archive or a tarball and copy that to MD, its a lot faster than copying a load of small files. In addition, the space on the disc is better used as well. That's correct. Only SonicStage can decode the files. Methinks, some serious reverse engineering is due... Unless Sony get's off their butt and supports real operating systems as well.
  19. Yes, via analog first. Connect phone(NetMD) with line-in(Hi-MD), then copy the stuff over onto Hi-MD. That can now be uploaded. If your NetMD unit is a homedeck with digital out, use that digital connection instead.
  20. It is the same, that you get in a standard DAT recorder. However, professional DATs usually contain better A/D converters and offer things like Super Bit Mapping. But then, we're talking about US$1000 and up...
  21. If it helps, the Service Manual is onsite: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/servi...vice_manual.pdf
  22. @Sonshin: Is it possible, that you formatted the disc in the Windows explorer? I did, and my NH700 didn't liked it. 'Format error' in the display was the result. Try this: Disconnect the recorder, select the recorders menu, scroll down to options, select Discmode, in that select Hi-MD, confirm. Next, into the menu again, select Edit, select Format, select Yes, confirm. Remember, you lose all data on the disc. Another point, if an Explorer window is open in the background, Windows often reacts icky, when another program wants to access the disc. Closing that window and repeating the operation usually ends it
  23. Yes, Connect Line-In of the Soundcard with Headphone out of the MD-Recorder. Then record realtime with a suitable Program - CoolEdit/Audacity etc... Upload is NOT possible with a NetMD. The checkin has only one purpose: Resetting the download-counter of the DRM-System. If you want upload via USB, you need a Hi-MD recorder.
  24. Realtime recording off the line-out of the soundcard works always... But I have the feeling, that one of the formats is MP3 anyway, as that format is playable on fairly old players. (Format 4 maybe?)
