Weird thing just hapned - I was getting a disc error message as I tried going through the menu to erase/reformat, then put the NH1 back on the cradle, took it off, popped back in the "toasted" disc, and it did a system file check (TOC Edit) and it appears the disc is now usable, again. EAC is an option but it's almost real time. I'll see if I can rip that CD as a WAV without any issues, then take your suggestion. Thanks.

I recently got a new NH1 and am having issues with some CD's when they get ripped by Simple Burner - these same issues exist when I import the disc via SonicStage, as well. I can get to a certain point or track and the PC locks up and freezes, and the transfer comes to an abrupt halt. I had/have this same problem when using Net MD functions with my N910. About an hour ago, I had to abort such a transfer using SB and linear PCM. The PC locked up and I lost the Hi-MD blank as I now get an error message; the disc is toast, totally unusable, not cheap, either. Is there any way to choose the transfer rate via USB (say 24x instead of 48x)? I know this will add more time to the project, but it should be more reliable. If not, I cannot accept this situation and will have to go back to using legacy MDLP with my D5C deck or even TOS-link connectivity to a PCDP. That always works.

I was one of the last few to nab an NH1 from MiniDisc Australia but I think it comes with the 240VAC adapter which is no value to me here in Nova Scotia. The universal model is the AC-E60A rated for 6VDC and 1000 mA which I can buy for about $30 CDN - I do have the AC-E60EG which is the same voltage but 700 mA. Can I use this on my forthcoming teeny Hi-MD recorder?

FS> Sony MZ-E10 MD player CHAMPAGNE GOLD! SOLD!
Superbaldguy replied to Km.3000's topic in Classifieds
Does this come with the universal AC adapter? Also, is the LiON cell working OK? -
Maybe Sony can keep some of its more popular MD models (both legacy and Hi-MD) in production a few more years - that can't be too expensive to do, can it? I am simply going to wait and see what he "official" word is before I continue to speculate.

Just a quick note - I did get the SP version a few days ago, and they actually sound better than the LP ones. I suppose my soon to be five-year-old 888LP's are showing signs of wear and tear and I did burn the SP buds in, properly, whereas the old 888's weren't done that way. You learn a lot by trial and error with headphones.

Man, these new shelf systems are soooooo nice. It is very encouraging that MD is still a major part of such new Japanese equipment. What is the approximate equivalent of the USD to the Yen?

NEW: Victor.JVC UX-WD700 "Lip><Lap" Mini Bookshelf

Does this have the World Band tuner? A bookshelf system looks more and more attractive as time goes by. -
I have made a few CD's via Audacity after taking the original live material (from MD) and editing the work in the program; I cannot find a way to create indivudual "tracks" and have these all come out on the finished CD with a way to scroll through them. I tried making separate tracks but they all get burned, together, as one whole song. There has to be a better way or another program that allows me to easily put tracks on CD-R's. Note that I do not own a Hi-MD unit, but have the N910 and SS and SB in my hard drive. Suggestions?

Very impressive photography. I, too, have the blue R909, my first "serious" MDR. I always felt this recorder was lost in the shuffle of the hype over NetMD and what not, but it was the first unit to have GROUP mode and Sony brought back on-the-fly recording with it.
-
Yes - the R909 was the first portable recorder with GROUP function and it also featured on-the-fly recording, a first for Sony in many years.

I just got a mint 2nd-hand N910. I love it, so far, but it seems I keep reading comments about issues with the sled. I have found that MD units need to be used on a regular basis or there tends to be trouble with the sled. My MZ-S1 (incidentally bought from MDX-400) recently needed to have me exercise the sled mechanism as it had trouble picking up tracks. After awhile, it worked fine but it had been sitting around for a couple months, unused. I had the same issue with my E707 player as it wouldn't go through a whole disc, cutting out about 5 min before it was over, mainly on my few 75 minute + recordings; the sled was "sticky" and had to keep using the playback feature, slowly working further and further into the last track. Eventually, I got it unstuck.

If you have Simple Burner installed, it only takes a few second to wipe the disc.

Would you prefer selling in Canada? I'd offer you $150 CDN shipped to Nova Scotia. My email is rosmith@ns.sympatico.ca

How about the MZ-R50? Classic, like the 1957 Chev.

My take on the MDR-E888's is that these are very "musical" compared to most other buds. They are perfectly balanced between the highs and lows, sweet mids. They are low impedance and are easily driven with great output. Just like all buds, fit is paramount. My 888LP's are over four years old and still work as good as the day I bought them. I had sort of got away from the 888's, using/owning just about all the usual other phones that are associated with MiniDisc (like the EX71's), but I keep coming back to these babies. If isolation is not an issue, these are, probably, the most suitable headphones for MD use. The supplied case with the LP-version is pretty slick. In fact, I might get the SP version of these in the near future. They so good that I can warrant owning two sets.

Adding track marks from an MD recording using Audacity
Superbaldguy posted a topic in Live Recording
I recently made a choir concert recording with my precious MZ-R909 and used Audacity as the platform to make it into a wav. file. I did notice there were provisions to add track marks but the implementation seemed awkward - can I add track marks using the Nero Wave Editor or some other program? -

The EX71's are very comfortable, maybe the best I've ever in that regard, and sound quite decent.

I recently got a set of PX200's and have had wonderful results with the weedy 5 mW Sony amp. They need to be burned in for a good 50 hours to get the full bass. At first, the little Senns struggled but now they're excellent. Output is surprisingly good, as I did not expect to get much more than my KSC-35's. They appear to be significantly louder than my D22's, which aren't too shabby. The PX200's offer WAY more isolation than the junior Eggos, for sure. I wish I had the D66's to do a better comparison. One little extra that I like about the PX200's is the straight 3.5mm plug. Most portable cans have a right-angled one which I actually find an annoyance. Cheers. Enjoy the PX200's.

Etymotic Research. Look here: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.asp There are two types - the 4S and the 4P. The latter are designed for portables and work dandy with MD units.
-
For sheer isolation and unbeatable sound quality, the ER-4P's are THE portable headphones. Not cheap, though; such is life.
-
Kevin, Sounds like you're gravitating towards the Auvi camp. I suppose an 8 mW amp does make a lot of difference with certain headphones. I do like the EX71's for riding my bike exerciser, but, as is the case with all buds, they do tend to slip out of my ear for any other type of activity, although they are more secure than any other bud I've tried. The PX200's are the most intriguing cans I don't have, and the curiosity may get the best of me and I might get them, at least to use with my PC.
-
TBH, I'm finding I do not really care for *any* buds as time goes by. My latest purchase in this area, the EX71's, sound pretty decent, are comfortable and are ideal for certain types of music with 'slam.' Their isolation is so-so, better than any other bud I've tried, but still not enough for anything except inside auditioning. The EX71's stay reasonably secure in the ear for things like riding a stationary bike, but can fall out like any other bud. I do own the ER-4P's and those babies are perfect for blocking out the world and have FAR more detail. Maybe too much isolation for walking, though, and not good for workouts. I'd like to try the PX200's, but my weedy Sony headphone amps will probably not do them justice. I have a set of MX400's but can't recall the last time I used them. I also have the E888's, which work well with classical and jazz. From a bass standpoint, the EX71's are clearly the best of the bunch. So many opinions about buds, eh? Can someone lend me their Auvi unit to see how well the PX200's work out?

I don't see why most etailers can't ship to India. The ones I use are Audio Cubes, HyperJack, and MiniDisc Access, plus a few others.
