  1. I assume you are using XP as Simple Burner won't work with Vista...........
  2. It may not make it any worse by giving the unit a bit of a whack, sometimes the thread screw is a bit stiff after not being used for awhile.
  3. Cool find, but that's basically only desirable for making digital copies of discs. It's built like a tank but not very practical, unless you are a collector.
  4. Good choice if you can find one, the NH1 seems a bit sturdier than the RH1.
  5. The beauty of MiniDisc is that it's not necessarily dependent on a PC, unlike most other DAP's, especially the iPod. We are in a generation where we simply NEED a PC to do every-day tasks.
  6. Are the CX400's an improvement over the CX300's? I had the EX90's and have the CX300's. each bud has its respective uses, the latter offers some more isolation but still cannot match a true IEM in that regard. The Senns do have more bass, if that's what you need.
  7. There was a classic MT831 for sale in the FS section.........
  8. There's a difference between a fake and a third-party battery - such as GP gumsticks. Fakes look just like the original but are made of far inferior materials, and rarely work for any length of time. Roll the dice, take your chances, I guess.
  9. In my experience, these cheap batteries seem to work OK when new but quickly lose their performance - at least that was the case with the NH-14WM's I owned, which were fakes. I guess the question has to be asked - are these LiON cells genuine Sony's or fakes?
  10. I am guessing your ribbon connector is broken and it erases the disc even if it's not in the record mode - how long have you had the NH1?
  11. If you're happy with MiniDisc and its excellent SQ, why not? It seems to be a very practical medium for road listening.
  12. I still am interested in your 831 if you are willing to sell without the discs.

I assume you have checked the battery and tried the AC adapter. This is sad, I feel for you.

10 years is great for any MD unit, most newer ones will not go half that long. How did it "die," do you have a BLANK DISC showing? My R50 is about 5 years old, never use it as a recorder, should last as long as your R50 did.
  15. Try cleaning the connection between the unit and remote, maybe there is some dirt or debris causing your problems.
  16. I have heard horror stories of plastic shutters breaking and destroying the unit, so I'd avoid those.
  17. What on earth are Sony thinking? I wonder where you'd ever find some sort of case for that, unless Sony design one.........
  18. Well, this shows me there must be still some interest left in the old format; MiniDisc is better than no MiniDisc in a shelf system.
  19. Check the Equipment Browser, the Japanese models came in both blue and orange......Sweet. 1997 were the good old days of MiniDisc.
  20. Ishi, have you published any pics of the orange R50, anywhere? That is almost porn=) I have the silver, which is so mundane...........
  21. I bought my R50 about four years ago, got in NIB, amazingly. I have never recorded anything with it, use it with a headphone amp and Audio Technica ATH-A900's. The line out is superb, as you know. The headphone out is decent but nothing special over the MD units of its time, although the 5 mW/16 ohms is louder than any of my other Sony units with the same specs. The R50 is a tank, for sure, should last forever. For practical recording purposes, its battery life is just too short, it's a clunky thing, and it doesn't have on-the-fly adjustments. If you are lucky enough to ever find one that has the SCMS-stripper circuit, you can make digital copies. I enjoy using my R50 but I am not any more in love with it over some of my other units.
  22. So, are the EX700SL's straighter than the EX90's? I found the angled stem on the EX90's unbearably uncomfortable.
