What I picky PITA peice of software. Had to uninstall SS and then reinstall it. Then it I had to put in a normal MD and reformat it to Hi_MD and then it worked with the Hi-MD discs. UGH! I was about to go back to tapes. ;-) Valder

I know. I was powering it up by the USB port. I did all of the above as standard "my windows trashes everything" protocol. I'll let the player sit while I set up my new printer....then run through the routine again. Val

OK now I have re-initialized this disc and many others and I keep getting the it can't be used as an audio disc because it was initialize other than Sonic Stage. So is this thing screwed or what? I'm about to chuck it in the garbage. Val

Damn thing and windows! I was recording onto a Hi-MD disc and of course my wonderful Winblows XP PC crashed. Now all I get whenever I insert any MD (even ones I recorded on the PC in Sonic Stage) into the 600D I get a message that the disc was initialized not in Sonic Stage and cannot be used in the application. And it takes FOREVER to recognize the inserted disc. Then it tells me to re-initialize so I do and I keep getting the same message..... Valder

Since the only portable music players I have are a 20th anniversary walkman, a D-EJ955 CD player and my Minidisc players I just converted all my CDs into Atrac and said the hell with MP3. Plus it just sounds like it is for flash players. Valder

I have a Elite Minidisc MJ-17D home deck that is in excellent condition for sale. I've decided to slide away from MD. I bought the deck about 2 yrs ago new and it is in excellent condition. I can get pictures out to those that request them, but I'll try to post some here tonight. This in one of those Elite players with the Glossy black finish and the nice wood side panels. The unit comes with the manual and remote, but I no longer have the original box. Asking $225 or BO and the buyer pays actual shipping in the USA. I'll box it up and get a quote for shipping if I get a bite on it. I prefer Money orders but will take Paypal. You can check my feedback on ebay under the name valder and feel free to contact me through ebay. Thanks Valder aka Darrin

Sony is probably just seeing if they can actually sell these Hi-MD units in the USA and then deciding if they want to give us blanks in any quantity. Valder

Yes this is an old thread....I thought it long dead. But still where are the blanks?! Valder

I just bought the cheapest Hi-MD and use it for my business travels. Otherwise it sits in the drawer. The Pioneer Elite MJ-17 Minidisc deck and Aiwa 3 head tape deck get daily workouts here in my home office. I still love the sound of a well made MX-S or XL-IIS tape. So until they have HiMD discs out there cheap and high end home decks I doubt Hi-MD will be more than a travel companion for me. Val -
It is a bit silly that the blanks are not out there in any kind of quantity by now.

Nah I don't need them that bad. I had to go pick up some film (yes film) so I went to WalMart and saw they had the spot ready for Hi-MDs at 3 for $9.99. Now that will be sweet. I guess my 70+ unopened MDs will be relegated to HiFi duty on the Pioneer Elite MJ-17D recorder with copying my Albums (Vinyl..yes). Hey I'm old still doin the film thing and vinyl thing with a bit of digital thrown in for good measure. Val http://www.pbase.com/dirtweed

I need more Hi-MD Discs! Finally decided to open up the 600D and load up the disc that came with it. Was able to get all my fav Tull and Rush albums on there as well as the Goo Goos, Rammstein, Gabriel and Talking Heads. Plus it was great to get 5 full Symphonies from Dvorak and Bruckner on one 74min regular old minidisc. Nice! Now where are the discs? Valder

So what kind of amp does this 600D HiMD Sony that I just bought have? I have a little Sony 505 now that I am not thrilled with the sound (but can't complain got it at WalMart for $25) My old Aiwa AM-F80 sounds much better but it won't do MDLP and the discs don't eject most of the time. I see with the Sharp it has a 4 pole earphone plug so getting the Audio-Technica ATH-EW9 Wood earphones would seem not to be the best match. Hmmmmm. Valder

Well that is good news. I could use the one off my old EJ955 CD player! Sweet. Darrin

I listen to alot of jazz as well and hearing that one response is enough. I had the MZ-NH600D HiMD in hand tonight at Best Buy. They had about 25 of them in stock, but I think I am going to wait for the MZ-NHF800 and the Tuner remote. I like to have a radio with me on my Business trips so I can tune into the local NPR stations when I don't feel like listening to music. Thanks for the responses.

I am looking at getting one of the HiMD players as my son has confiscated my 505. Now I am in the process of recording all of my CDs in SS2 and want to know if I should be using the ATRAC3Plus or the old ATRAC3?! Looking at the FAQ I see that the 64kps of Hi-LP supposedly sounds as good as LP2, but in the real world has anyone compared them? Val
