    Charging NH3D

Um, what's a 'charge pump'? I've heard of transformers, but definately not a charge pump.
  2. - NH1 > N10 + N1 for SQ = yes. - E3s bass lacking = no. - Optical recording > SS transfer/NetMD = yes.
  3. Haha, Sony HDD... don't make me laugh. Yes the Sharp will sound much better.
  4. .... since when did PC sound cards become a reference point for sound quality? If you think sound cards sound good, the NH1, or *any* Hi-MD, for that matter, will be more than enough for you.
  5. ^ You are doing what I first did on my N10 - I spent all my time adjusting the equalizer instead of listening to the music, 2 months later I realized that I had a pile of sh*t in my hands. It's not the codec, it's the amp. Regardless of what you do to the equalizer, the Sony sounds bad. Better than the N10, but still bad for a trained ear. Based on what? Your limited experience? If you think tweaking tonal balance = better sound quality, you're off by the mile. Good (headphone) equipment do not need equalizers. Equalizers and crossovers are only necessary in speaker systems where there is a need for acoustic compensation due to the listening environment. Hi-LP is 48Kbps. I suspect you have semi-fallen for Sony's marketing ploy that ATRAC3+ is better than every other codec out there and is far superior to MP3, when it is not. 64Kbps MP3 > Hi-LP, unless you fancy filling your ears with mud. People, read: You should be able to tell something from that.

    Charging NH3D

Sorry, I'm just lazy. Chances are I was busy stuffing my mouth and typing with a single hand. But yes it's been answered before, the NH1/NH3D do not come with external AA packs, and the USB doesn't charge the Li-ion battery.

    Charging NH3D

It's been answered before, and I know this guy's from the T-board.
  8. I'm just screwing with ya. Next time, don't include 'audiophiles' in your argument. You'd get around 30 to 40% compression with Apple Lossless, sometimes even more. It's not as efficient as FLAC or MA, but it still does the job of saving space, and the encoding times are pretty quick.
  9. I smell more placebo BS... Are you insulting audiophiles or your own intelligence? j/k. iPod = far from perfect. But it's better than any other portable offering out there. Unlike some others, and as much as I enjoy hearing revving WRXes and their BOVs, I spend my time actually listening to music and not cars. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.asp Shove them up your ears. Simple. Making claims off the top of your head again, hmm?
  10. Sorry. No, the SCD-1 is a supposedly very good player in general, not just for SACD but also Redbook playback.
  11. Mate, I haven't even filled my 20GB Pod past the 10GB mark, and all I use is Apple Lossless. 10GBs = about one and a half days worth of music in compressed Lossless. You seem to be forgetting that these are all portable devices. Really, I've yet to run out of 'refreshing' tunes to listen to, and chances are I don't really need 3 days worth of lossless audio on the move. 40GBs would give you a weeks worth of lossless audio, heh. Re the Hi-MD removable media argument, I'll see you carrying over 10 discs around with you. I go out with my MD, the only disc I'll be carrying is the one in my player. You will never need more than 40GBs of lossless audio for portable use. Worry about what you need now, not what you might need in the future. It takes half an hour to fill up 1 Hi-MD disc, yet you can fill up a 20GB iPod in the same time. For home use, you should be looking at this.
  12. You don't need ferrites on wallwarts, it's DC.
  13. Ahah indeed matey. So you've gotten both a NH600 *and* a NH700 aye?
  14. Oo, you're in SA. I see, I see. Yeah, Mahathir is one PM who's got the balls. He came to my uni one weekend not so long ago. Doesn't mean the majority of the Malaysian population have good work ethics and are highly motivated.
  15. Hehe. If CD is only 20 - 20,000 Hz, why does it matter what frequency response your earphones have? The important thing is how flat the frequency response curve is, not the range. It could be 23,000 Hz at -6dB for all you know, which means you wouldn't hear a thing in that region. I'm guessing you're using EX71s, and that's hardly classified as delivering 'LF bass whilst maintaining the mid and soft top notes'. EX71s have supressed mids to give the treble and bass a boost, but this is handled so poorly that it tends to sound sharp. Sony's 'high range' headphones are the CD3000s and R10s, and both sell for way above USD350.
  16. Eh? You only need ferrite cores in the power supply cable...
  17. If you recorded the stuff through a mic, that's okay. SCMS doesn't kick in till the 2nd generation copy of a digital source, ie. you can record from a CD, but you can't record digitally from the MD that was recorded from the CD. SCMS doesn't 'exist' on the input or the output, but it's 'calculated' at the input. The source merely sends the SCMS code to the recorder, telling it how many generations it has passed through. The recorder decides what to do with it.
  18. I can if I want, and nobody's going to lock my threads this time.
  19. Indeed, don't buy Malaysian made products. The people there are stupid and uneducated. Their products are of inferior quality.
  20. Ah. Don't mind me, I've not run a linux box since the 2.2 days.
