  1. Hey guys, guess what...

My brother just got an I-pod Nano Video. Fresh from the box. Since his laptop is too old to handle I-Tunes, he asked me to load it with songs from mine. Long story made short, I download the most recent update for it, since I-tunes wouldn't stop nagging about it. Load a single Mp3 on it, hit play... and the fooking thing just died on me. Dead. Bricked. No power, no sound, no nothing.

Say what you will about Sony and Microsoft, but at least their products don't crap out on you fresh out of the box after an update.

Screw Apple. Screw Jobs. Screw I-Tunes. Screw their crappy-made, overpriced piece of crap. Screw their laptops which can't do more than a similarly-priced Windows system. Quality and simplicity? My eye. The devil used an apple to tempt Eve. Coincidence? I don't think so. Apple is the Antichrist, and Jobs is the False Prophet described in Revelation. :P

Now if you excuse me, this thing has got an appointment with the toilet, and I have a meeting with a lovely, sexy Hi-Minidisc unit. (Which, has never ever, ever under any circumstance, needed an update, or even its lens cleaned.)

Okay, seriously. I just can't believe this thing crapped out on me out of the box. Anyone ever had a similar experience?

  2. Due to the amount of risks and gambles Sony has been taking trying to shove their proprietary formats down people's throats, they need to recover their costs by... how can I say it... expanding themselves to other areas. (Read: Harlotry)

  3. Something that gets on my nerves is people in another forum that don't understand that lossles=lossless=lossless. They claim and insist that the compression (For crying out loud, people... it's packing, not compressing!) degrades the signal. Even if the reconstructed-from-FLAC wave file is identical, bit-by-bit to the original used to create such FLAC.

  4. It had been suggested that when SS imports and converts into WAV. all in one hit, degradation may occur.

Suggested. Not proven with data and evidence. ;)

There shouldn't be any degradation because what you're doing is actually copy the data of the recording to your computer, bit by bit. If you are recording in PCM, all that SS does is remove the DRM and OMA container, and leaves you with an untainted WAV. PCM=WAV.

If you feel more comfortable, import your files without converting them to wav (disable that option). Once imported, close SS and use HI-MD Renderer to convert to wav.

Again. Until Sony releases the source code, there is no way to import to the computer without sonicstage.

I've seen doubts expressed about the quality of the Sony USB link. Is this a view widely held?

Unless bits and bytes are being lost when you transfer/copy the music or files to your computer, there shouldn't be anything to be concerned about. No one ever says anything about pictures, MP3's (Ipod, Zen, or any other MP3 player) losing quality when transferred to and from the host computer, which is exactly what HI-MD does.

So, repeat after me, people: Uploading to the computer from HI-MD is just copying the data that is already in the Hi-MD. If A=B and B=C, then A=C. It's not like we're using vacuum tubes and cheap flat antenna cable to work here.

  5. Why does it need to connect to the web, if it never stored the info of your uploaded songs to begin with? This tool is intended to be used with files downloaded from the Connect store, but Sony saw it fit to brand every user a potential pirate and cause this inconvenience...

On the other hand, every User of SS should un-DRM their songs if they are still in OMA format, and back them up ASAP. I'm glad I did.

  6. Don't touch those HMA. Contrary to what you may think, those are NOT your recordings, rather some index files that MD needs to work properly. Your recordings are not visible from within windows. You may want to try Marcnet's awesome Hi-MD Renderer, available from the downloads section of this forum. It can also convert to OGG and MP3 with the proper DLL, but first you must have transfered your music to the computer via SonicStage.

  7. Because I-pods suck.

No, really. My MD's have suffered all kinds of torture and still go on trucking. My brother's ipod died on the (original) charger. Left it overnight working just fine, and in the morning it was bricked. Go figure.

    Warning: Strong language.

  8. Gabriel... you're aware this is a Minidisc forum, right? And that all your posts are related to Winblows Vista (Which you don't really need, as it doesn't do anything that XP can't right now)... and that we know squat about Vista support? And that MS is supposed to give you support on it, for free, on the phone, for one full year?

I'm sorry to sound like a jerk, but are you some sort of undercover anti-MS propagandist? All you've done so far is tell us that Vista sucks (News flash: DUH!).

I guess I’ve lost my all data. Please tell me what I can do suggest a place where I can find the solution.

Two words: Not here. Google for data recovery services. :rtfm:

Sorry, mods. But this is getting out of hand.

    EDIT: February 9

This is the same blunder I did and you knows what… I almost lost my data. I was so tensed caz all data was lost (I thought ) But My friend suggested me a lab something called Salvage Recovery Lab or something similar to that. When I contacted I got my problem was solved. They solved the bug and got my 90% of the data back. I don’t know how but they managed to got it back. I was extremely happy that I got my maximum data. If you want you can call at 1 203-973-0242 get your problem solved.

    All the best.

    February 6:

Vista Vista !!! I don’t know how many people are facing problems during upgrading there system with Vista. But I should not have upgraded my system with that. I’ve had my karma about 6 months, initially I had a few problems with it freezing etc but nothing major. Then last week it crashed and then froze on the rebuilding database screen when I turned it back on. I’ve finally got it on now but everything is gone. The thing is that it still says that there’s 12gb being used when I go to 'about rio karma'. Does anyone know of any way to salvage the music on there because following the recent death of my hard drive, all my music was on the rio (I never got around to putting it back on the pc). I’ve tried rio taxi and riorad explorer, both to no avail. If anyone has any ideas id really appreciate it, since there was some really rare tracks on there.

You're either a spammer bot, an amnesiac or you somehow move backwards in time.
