I was thinking about Ipod and stuff, and how Sony has failed miserably to compete with Apple due to their idiotic policies (If I want to get sound files that sound like crud off the internet, I'll leech them off, not pay 99 cents for one of them, thank you very much.) According to some Ipod users, 132 Kbps AAC sounds surprisingly good. So, if I were running Connect.com, this is what I'd do in order to compete: 1. Revamp SonicStale. Or replace it with stuff that actually works. 2. Start offering downloads in Hi-SP format, so I can give people an excuse to buy Hi-MD units. If Hi-Sp sounds just as good as Atrac 3 SP (I can't tell the difference between that and a CD, and think it sounds great). Quality sells, too. That kills the "Chicken or the Egg" situation. Create content, and the means to play that content. 3. The chance to burn such songs up to three or five times to CD, like Itunes does. 4. Unlimited Checkouts for that purchased music. 5. A surefire way to authenticate those songs so music doesn't get lost in a crash => backup/restore situation, or system upgrade. 6. Get the meaning of "If a tree falls on the forest, and no one hears it, does it make a sound?" and start advertising the format, gosh dang it. Did Sony think that a blue little alien transferring music to a MD, broadcast only in cable channels was going to get people's audience? Two words for you, Sony: Sega Saturn. I don't recall seeing more than three ads for it in all of 1996. Get a clue from Coca Cola, and your own darn Playstation. 7. Get head of derriere. Thanks, and sorry if I was ranting. Come on, Sony. Remember when you and I were young. Remember the first Walkman. The first Discman. The PSX. The MZ-1. Betamax. Your Laserdisc players. Trinitron TVs. The Wegas... remember the innocence. Remember....

You know, I'd suggest you got Marcnet's Hi-MD renderer to see if you can convert those files to something that you can play on any computer without the draconian DRM of OMA files. You never know when a HDD can get wiped out, and all your music on it go Bye bye.

Never mind. I just found out the linkie on the top of the page named "English"

allofmp3.com is in russian. Is this the right site? Is there an english version?

HDMI. It's an all-in-one type of connection for HDTV monitors. Digital Audio, the whole HDTV signal in just one cable. Plug, and play.

Maybe the optical block fell out of alignment. I had my Sharp SR60 do that to me once, but was able to fix it by entering service mode. The symptoms you describe sound very similar to what my player was going through. Unfortunately, it's not so easy with Sony players.

Great to hear about that, thanks for the info. I can live with SCMS on MD, because it restricts me from making copies from copies. But not DRM because it restricts me from even playing my music whenever and wherever I want. heck, I'd be happy even if they only fixed the bugs when uploading from Hi-MD to the PC.

<<< Sega Wh**e. And proud of it. Back on topic, I thought at the beginning that the DS was nothing but pure gimmick. I'm happy to have been proven wrong, since it's conceived as a gamer's machine. Wireless Multiplayer Ownz. PSP and its MP3 playback are not atractive to me. I am willing to bet all my socks that PSP will have Sony's wonderful DRM and Sonic Stale junk included in the deal. And unless they had pulled a miracle, the battery isn't going to last long on that thing. Go Nintendo! [/fanboy]

^^Whoops. My mistake. Circuit City has several NI-MH 2100 MAh batteries on sale as of Dec 30. Those could work.

Dolby Digital audio has copy protection in it. Does it give you the same result when you use a regular audio CD? If it does, you may want to try another DVD player. Also, try going into the menu and selecting the Digital Output to PCM/Stereo instead of DD/DTS.

Hi guys. I'll make this short. There is a gentleman in a city close to Phoenix, Az, from a Christian online group to which I belong to as well. He has been having rough times, and yesterday, he lost the CD player a pastor gave him for Xmas, along a CD he likes a lot. Soooo... Since I didn't sell my R500, I'm going to give it to him along a MD compilation of the same group he likes to hear. And several MD's, too, so he can make his mixes from the computer at the home he resides at. And was thinking... What if others did the same? Why not donate some of our old, but working MD gear? Think about it, this may be a nice way to spread the word about the format. There might be someone close to you, a family whose Xmas wasn't that nice, a coworker stretching bills to make ends meet... That old R 37, or even an E40 with a disc or two could really make life a bit happier for someone in a hospital, shelter/whatever. Peace on earth, MD and SP towards all.

As soon as I get a Paypal transfer to my account, I'll send you some bucks. Hope it helps!

Ebay, or Froogle. Just run a search for either "Minidisc Battery" or "Gumstick Battery". Or go to www.batteryprice.com

Damm. In that case I think it's better off to give it as a present. Sorry. -__-

Aw man. I can't believe I didn't receive any notification. How embarrasing to find out of your reply one month later. >_<. If you still want it, the hacked R500 is yours for 50 bucks, plus shipping. With the five Denon discs. LMK. Syrius.

FS: Ton of Blanks, MD333 Minisystem, portables, MD rack
Syrius replied to LedHead79's topic in Classifieds
If the 333 can read CDRW, and copy to MD at 4X, I might take it. Can you please let me know? Thanks. -
Ever heard of Windows 98? :rasp:

We also need a "Do not suck" Mode button in SonicTurd, ASAP. :rasp: Ok, seriously. If a bunch of hobbyists have been able to put code together to remove the nastiest pieces of spyware, perfectly emulate a Sega CD, Turbo Grafx, Neo Geo, and even the Nintendo 64 (with the help of a 3D card), build together a CD from scratch and burn it, bit by bit... WHY CAN'T A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY, WITH SEVERAL R&D DEPARTMENTS GET THEIR DARN SOFTWARE TO WORK JUST FINE? God forbid if Nero, MAME, ZoneAlarm, Norton, AdAware and Firefox had the same "functionality" as SS. *Rant mode off*. Sorry mods. I'm starting to have problems with SS on my brother's laptop. Man. :whatever:

Strangely enough the MDR EX 70's I got from Japan two years ago sounded sweet as nectar. Or maybe I wasn't used to the crappy quality of Sony's offerings. And then they got crushed. *sigh* Cori, what's your take on Etymotic's E6? You know the ones that won't break the bank like the E4P? I am thinking on getting a pair...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5739182966&rd=1 This is ridiculous. I wonder what has this person been smoking. (Sorry mods if this is not the right forum, but since it's a NetMD unit, it seemed proper to put it here. Thanks.)

I can record anywhere, without the need of a computer. In your face, Apple.
-
Right. Please notice I was talking about the streamed services, not the pay-per-download ones. I'm sure it's lossless audio for both Rhapsody and Music Match. (this last one could be using WMA 9 lossless)

Seems like a loose connection on the headhphone jack itself, and pressure is what makes the contacts touch.

I desperately need CD ROM (software) of Sony MZ-R500
Syrius replied to brino06's topic in Classifieds
What you are actually talking about is a simple Xitel An-1 converter. It does not require a CD if you are using Win98 SE or newer OS. Trust me, I have it, along with an R500. Simply plug it in, and wait for windows to recognize it. The thing will NOT transfer songs the way you do it with Hi and NetMD. It's a simple digital-to-analog external converter that bypasses cheap sound cards. You simply play your favorite Media player, and get the sound from that thing, and record using your MD and a male-male headphone cable. -
Not sure if you may want to know. Due to the proprietary format, slow transfers, overall bugginess, and unreliability of SonicStale, the NH600 has been declared one of Cnet's Worst Buy turkeys of this year.
