Removing scratches from LCD screens? [i.e. remotes, etc]
Syrius replied to Christopher's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Seems like I got it right this time. Though the results are less than spectacular due to the unit seeing a lot of rough use, the screen looks a bit neater. -
Removing scratches from LCD screens? [i.e. remotes, etc]
Syrius replied to Christopher's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Tried it on my Sharp SR 60 main screen, no noticeable improvement. Maybe because it's gel-based. -
My guess is that the SPDIF from your computer is the culprit. Some hardware comes SMCS-ed from the factory, regardless of how legit your music is. Pressure from record companies may be forcing manufacturers to do this. Refer to the thread in this section titled "Easy optical out from your PC" to look for cheap, and quality alternatives. I use an Onkyo UD-5 USB to toslink converter, which only applies SMCS to Dolby Digital DVD soundtracks. Everything else can be recorded all right.

I imagine gel-type paste doesn't do the trick, does it? -
You can record in non-OMG formats, like SP using the line in and the optical input. But you won't be able to upload them or anything like that.
-
Greatness! Marc, if you are reading this, know that your program is the sole reason I have decided to purchase a Hi-MD unit this Christmas. Let freedom ring. Erm, play.
-
How about: 1: If you have a HI-MD and made some recordings on it (PCM, HI-SP, Hi-LP), upload them and use Marc's app to convert them to wav. 2:Using Nero's image drive, compile a virtual CD using the wav files, and mount it. Since HDD's are faster, shouldn't take long. 3: With SS 2.1 or higher, rip them to OMA PCM, HiSP or HiLP, and then download to Hi-MD in the flavor of your choice. (Or you can use simple burner too) 4:Repeat downloading the converted files to Hi-MD. Can you say, "Attack of the Clones"?
-
Ok. Let me see if I understand. You can rip a CD to OMG PCM, and then transfer that PCM to HI-MD using the USB cord, at high speed? And the MD recording format is true PCM, with DRM? (I can live with that.)
-
Good to hear. What better way to earn your customer's loyalty than by demonstrating you trust them?

^^^ NetMD/Hi-MD won't upload any file recorded on SP format.

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.

Um, anyone remember Sony giving Bleem a lot of grief over their emulator that let you play PSX games on a PC or Dreamcast? What if they do the same to Marc? Sony's lawyers can be quite, how can I say it.. heartless. -
Building an ATRAC-to-MP3 would require having to pry away from Sony's cold, dead fingers the Forbidden Tomes of The Secrets of ATRAC. Highly unlikely. (Correct me if I'm wrong. It was also said that Lindberg would never cross the ocean in his little plane, and lo, he did. )
-
I think that Sony would prefer supporting MP3 than going the Itunes way, seeing how they have a dislike for all things Mac. Though sometimes I wonder if Sony Execs wear their shoes on their hands and watches on their feet. If that made sense.

Just don't use Hi-MD discs or discs with tracks recorded on MDLP, and you're set. SP-only units are still solid investments, IMHO.

Sorry to keep on bumping this thread with a player link (No, this is not my auction or anyone's I know.) but in case someone is interested, here's one deal that seems too good to pass up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5720738509&rd=1 (Mods, this will be the last link. I won't be flooding the thread since I'll use PM in case I find a good deal for Cori. Thanks) EDIT: It sold for only 25 bucks? *bangs head against wall* AAAARRRGGH!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5721277626&rd=1 It's the best price I have found. Even though it's a Net MD unit, it has analog and optical line in. Try searching on ebay as soon as you read this. There are a few units closing around noon-3pm monday. Maybe you can snag a great deal. I'd sell my E 35 for 50 bucks (in box) but you need a recorder. Good luck. Edit: Will post other links, hope 50-75 is the price you have in mind. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5721578114&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5721629504&rd=1 PS. What happened to the custom titles we could choose? I miss the "Sentient Bioengineered K9" label above my doggy avatar.

Hi all. The gumstick I got with my E 35 no longer retains the charge, and I'm waiting on a JVC unit which also takes gumsticks. I don't want to go the ebay route (3 bucks for a Sony gumstick? Yeah right. And I got this beach property here in Az I can sell you along a bridge in SF.) So, if anyone has got some spare gumsticks, PM or reply. I don't care if they are the GP ones, Energizers, or original Sony. I need two, but if you only got one that you want to part with, it's ok. Thanks in advance. I can pay through Paypal all right.

Hi board. I have the chance to acquire a NetMD recorder for cheap. I have a lot of MDs recorded in old SP-only units, with no track names at all. My question is: Is it possible to label a disc recorded on an old MD unit (EX, R37) using a NetMD unit and SS? Or does that work for discs recorded through the USB only? Thanks.

I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming and I'm afraid I will wake up any moment. WOOT! -
My Gateway laptop is pretty decent, and worked just fine with SS 2.1 and a NetMD unit when I tried. Then again, I keep it in top shape and use two USB devices at maximum at the time. Have you tried using the Nero Imagedrive trick? It sure takes a bit longer but it's way cleaner, and IMHO, safer.

Sorry if this derails the topic, guys. Last saturday I was watching the anime bar of adult swim on cartoon network, and just between Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop, guess what digital audio player was being advertised? Ipod. Which brings me to the conclusion (Duh) that if Sony expects to get a slice of the pie, they better start telling people about their new flavor of MD, and soon. And truthfully. Do they expect knowledge of MD to be passed on to new prospective customers via osmose? *whispers to Sony* If you tell them... they shall come.

I have looked in every single nook and cranny of my apartment, and cannot seem to find the AC adapter for my sharp MD player. I know I can use a regular NIMH battery charger for it, but don't want to risk running out of power while recording. My ebay screenname is Auricomresearch, and have perfect feedback, if you want to check my credentials. Can pay through Paypal or MO. Please and thanks a lot. EDIT. Just found a suitable replacement. Thanks anyway.

Sony better do it. They cannot hope that Connect.com will swipe away a lot of Itunes (which is much more flexible than SS, IMHO) customer base. If they develop a customized package that allows for AAC to True SP USB transfers, we'll be in heaven: We get what we want, when we want it, and pay for it if we want it, and Sony and Apple and the RIAA get their dues and their DRM and all that which makes them feel happy. Come on, Sony.. you know you want to. Remember the hip and adventurous youngster you were back when the PSX was launched... yeah... I miss that one too.
-
I know it's 6 months since the original post was made. Do you still have it? I'm kinda interested. Besides, that player is just plain sexy. My ebay ID is AuricomResearch, hope that serves as reference. Thanks.

I concur. I have been a CSR for some time, and have seen both the ones who go beyond the call of duty (rare cases, IMHO.) or just the type that you describe. (Majority, sadly). Sorry to derail the topic. Anyway, what I'd do in your case is compare the pros and cons of each format, and decide overall what would be the best option anyway. I myself would have gone for the pod if not because MD is so affordable, the battery issues, and doesn't need a computer to record your music. And those japanese MD blanks are so darn cool. Care for a little related humor? (Cuss words ahead. Careful.) http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date...003-05-28&res=l Ipod owners, please forgive me. *dives for cover*
