Did I miss the joke? Glad it worked out for you. :thumbsup2:

Hey, welcome to the forum and check out this link... http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/Sony_...tion_manual.pdf Should solve all your problems. I would recommend that you print and put in a notebook, etc. Lots of good info. It's what I had to do with my Sharp DR7 manual.

They must have lowered their prices. Check with etronics.com and see what you can find or Froggle NH800. I think you would be fine with the Nh800, the NH900 offers the extra battery attachment option, a Line Out and the digital amp. I would have gone the NH800 route but the extra battery and Line out were very important to me.

I have read reports from people with RM-MC40ELK working quite well with the NH800. I had a few responses about that subject in my inbox but I just deleted them this week. But, I can say the NH900 works with it. But, won't you lose the FM/AM radio that functions out of the remote?

I have used 2.3 for a week or so and I have noticed an improvement in the speed of recognition of my NH900 AND a considerable speed improvement in the coverting and transfer of files to the Hi-MD. I can't give you actual numbers but it is very noticeable to me. Anybody else notice a speed improvement? Plus, the Mp3 handling has improved in terms of speed as well. The ability to create a MP3 CD is thoughtful too. Nonetheless, it still takes too long for the program to initialize and start but nothing major. I still enjoy not having to bother with CONNECT. They may have to pry this version away from me :rasp:

Best Buy still has that unit on clearance for @ $79. I saw about 10 at the store on Tuesday night. Hey, I love my MZ-S1 especially out and about. It sounds great to me and the battery life is a true marvel since it replaced a mp3 player this summer. You can't beat these prices for a solid piece of equipment for just about any portable need.

Don't forget a good mic for her to use to record her experiences overseas. Check out this site for some good suggestions that would be easy to use with decent results. http://minidisco.com/single-point-stereo-mics.html Great job guys on the recommendations!

Can you check what the bit rate was for the tracks that are there. What does the disc show for capacity and remaining when you connect with Sonic Stage? I would start there.

Battery Life Extention -- Using AA NiMH with NH900?
mrsoul replied to etotheix's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Check out these AA NiMh from Sanyo! http://www.teamdigital.net/store/customer/...&cat=194&page=1 These guys also have some Hi-MDs that are harder to get in the US like the NH700 and the price looks cheaper than Audiocubes... -
I consider myself hopefully devoted to the media. I talk about it to anyone who brings up music in conversations. Reasons I like MD/Hi-MD: 1. The price is always right (when you consider the cost of DAT) 2. The ability to record my favorite bands with fantastic results using simple equipment without any hardware problems yet! 3. Compact size 4. I like having different MDs for different moods of the day 5. Not an IPOD (I was strictly in MD for recording purposes but my MZ-S1 has exposed me to all of the great portable music qualities of the media and I got that on clearance this summer) I am still hopefully that Sony will get this software thing closer to what we consumers want and demand. Regardless, I think the MD is a hard format to beat for amateur recording AND portable music needs.

The clipping was likely due to the AGC setting, I always use manual and keep the levels low enough to avoid any peaks that might clip. The "Data Save" hang I have not experienced with my NH900. Is this all on the same MD or are you using different ones when you have the problem?

Sounds very reasonable to me. We already have demonstrated a financial interest in addition to what we have going here online. Keep us posted on the initiatives.

I actually read some of the post this spring. I would visit there more than here until this forum really took off after Hi-MD hit. Thanks for your work and suggestions, too bad they didn't take your advice for US sales. I recorded 2 shows before I got the upgrade on the remote and I spent most of my time hovering over the recorder with a mini-flashlight like the old days with the Sharp DR7 watching the meters. Now, I just clamp the remote somewhere and eye it every now and then with no worries. It could be the best thing about the whole package other than the PCM upload deal and the great battery life and the cool jog dial...well, you get the idea

I might need something to boost the line out signal for listening only during the time it takes me to get home from the place I recorded the show. Most of the time, that is usually an hour or more. I have just found the headphone output to be low and I don't even have the deck yet but just in case, I was looking around to see what I might be able to use to boost that signal. Once, I get home and get it uploaded, I will normalize and it's good to go from there .

Kurisu- I think this is a FM transmitter, not a plugin mic.
-
Yeah, I haven't put anything Hi-LP on Hi-MD yet, I am still using standard 80min reformatted and keeping my HiMDs for live recording use only. It's still fun to get that much on a one standard 80min and sound decent enough to enjoy on the road or outside, etc.
-
The SPL at a show will usually be a lot more than your home stereo can put out if it's inside a club, etc. You might get some distortion with higher SPL if you keep it in the MIC IN. Instead of a 9V battery box, look at something like the Reactive Sounds Boost box to boost the signal not just power the mics like a 9V battery box. Or maybe I read it wrong and you do have a preamp. If so, is it adjustable for the gain? I think your source may have been the problem. Even with the battery box/preamp, with low SPL you still might need a bigger boost. The battery box through the Mic In will definitely take the work off your MD preamp (which isn't that great).

I have had 2 different FM transmitters and I have been very disappointed in both. It's a pain to have to tune it when the signal goes down plus the sound is very artificial. I am switching to a deck with a front AUX input to get the best sound on the road from my Hi-MD.
-
No problems from PC to MD but I completely lost one full set and I lost another show but I was able to find the tracks intact on the MD both times. I now do an analog copy via my Creative Audio Audigy ZS 2 just in case before any uploading. At least I still have been able to salvage what is on the Hi-MD when I do have problems. I have read others who have not been so lucky. For me, I have been able to avoid the problem by tracking before uploading to minimize the size of the data chunk. It's been the way to go for me so far. Overall, I would give SS a C+ and I really like my 2.3 without Connect even better!

It actually ships with some versions of the NH900 overseas (Australia, Japan) and it has all available menus and options. It's definitely what should have shipped with teh US NH900 but that choice wasn't up to me.

Anyone every use one of these headphone amplifiers? http://www.boostaroo.com/ I might think about one if the Aiwa Aux input on my new car deck isn't loud enough for shows recorded via LINE IN before I can normalize on the PC, etc.
-
Question: is there a power adpater for the NH900? I don't see it listed in the accessories area of the manual. 2nd Question: will it charge the Ni-MH (is that possible?) I am getting a Aiwa CD/MP3 receiver deck in my car next week with a aux input thanks to the headsup on this forum and I want to be able to take that NH900 on the road to shows so I can listen on the way home to cut tracks while I listen, etc. It would be great to be able to power it from the car while I am rockin' down the highway! Any help or input is appreciated.

I have an optical out and in on my PC but I can't use synch too well due to the 3 fans I have inside my computer causing too much noise, or at least that is what I attribute that problem. On my Sony Decks there was a way to adjust the sensitivity so it wouldn't pick up so easily. Anyway to adjust that on the NH900 that anyone has noticed? When recording something off the PC via the optical, I usually just give it a play list and come back later. It doesn't do so well with cutting the tracks either due to that noise so it's rare that I do that anyways. I usually just use SB or SS and record in LP2 so I can listen on the MZ-S1. I really don't have a problem with Hi-LP for music since the only time I use it is on the road and I have cheap Sony headphones on and I am on the 12 hour drive from SC to OH while the kids are watching movies in the back. It sounds good enough for portable and definitely better than LP4. Sure beats changing MDs while trying to drive through West Virginia! Then again, I use LP4 on some MDs for use on my MZ-S1 in the gym and it sounds good enough to keep me listening on the treadmill or when I am out walking. I guess it depends on the playback, the earphones and your tolerance for less than perfect reproduction. Most of what I listen to is from a live source so it ain't perfect anyways!

Hard carrying case w/customizable interior
mrsoul replied to smkranz's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
BTW, what are the interior dimensions? The site only list the exterior dimensions. Any chance that the metal case might cause some interference when running a line from a powered mic or preamp? I like to keep my Otterbox almost closed during shows (cuts down on the cigarette smoke smell too)and I would worry about that hard case on the wires. I guess if your cables are insulated it shouldn't really be an issue... Thanks again. -

That price and the amount of room makes my Otterbox look like a bad deal. Looks great! Wish I knew about this before hand but maybe next go round. Thanks for the info. BTW, here's my setup: http://home.earthlink.net/~mhjohns_music2/...x/otterbox.html
