standard of 1 Million of something 1 x 1000 x 1000 = 1,000,000 so 305 MB literally means 305 x 1000 x 1000 = 305,000,000 but computer deals in Binary, and 1 KB = 1024, thus 1MB in Binary = 1 x 1024 x 1024 = 1,048,576 now 305,000,000 / 1,048,576 = 290+ 305 - 290 = 15 thought you knew this, Cori... :rasp: that's why 1 dvd has 4.7GB of capacity, but it can only store about 4.44GB of data.

Newby to the forum, a few questions and comments
Kaotic replied to MiniDiscCoolYay's topic in Minidisc
hmm, best quality. that would be record at PCM mode. which is uncompressed, similar to wav file. In MD/NetMD, whether it's SP, LP2, LP4,. or in Hi-MD records other than wav/PCM mode. they are 'ALL' compressed, eventho it's "Stereo". it's not the 'BEST' quality. but it is high quality. if Hi-MD records at PCM mode, then it does have superior sound quality than your MZ-S1. hope this answer some of your Qs. -
NH900 is probably your best choice. If you are satisfied with SP sound in your old unit, Hi-SP will probably do it for you. Unless you want to record at Highest quality possible which is PCM, but then each Hi-MD disc can only yield about 90 minutes worth of PCM recordings. hope this helps

Seriously, go see the doctor, PRONTO!!! don't delay.

There is this thing call 'Google', give it a try. who knows, U might like it. . basically, it's a headphone amp.

I would suggest get a external shell case that has both firewire port and usb 2.0/1.1 port. plus a internal dvd/cd burner. as far as burner brand goes, Pioneer, NEC, and Plextor would be good.

Sony PSP will be recognised as usb mass storage device and user will also be able to drag and drop MP3 files. this device will also accept jpeg files and sony's atrac3plus audio format. now this is first device from Sony that will support MP3, since the annoucement of supporting MP3. CNET's article is that mean, ability to support natively MP3 on Hi-MD is not far behind?

hmm, very interesting * encode and decode SACD, DVD-Audio. and on the data portion. maybe storing some movie clips from Blu-Ray DVD or HD-DVD, and backward compatibility to current DVD
-
Tis the only reason, I still kept my old dinasaur pc.
-
yeah, like Jadeclaw said. also, I saw somewhere, you had mentioned you had a friend that has a md deck, maybe you can ask that friend for help? and what happen to your pc?
-
@Soulescape How you plan to keep your original recordings? let's assume you have fill-up the storage on H120, what then? do you erase your recordings, after you upload it to your pc to make way to store new recordings, or do you shell out $300 ~ $400 for another one? what if you want to retrieve your old recordings, assuming you burn it on cd/dvd or whatever. it would be hassle to search for it. whereas on minidisc, after you fill up 20 of those Hi-MD, if you want more storage, you can alway get more at $6.99 a pop per 1GB of storage. That's far less cost than buying another recorder/player. Since you keep the original recordings on minidiscs, nothing gets erased. Also, it would be a hell a lot easier to retrieve it, as you don't need another storage media to play it back. another important fact that you need to consider too. what if you accidentally drop H120, in midst of your recording? you probably lose all your valuable recording content. whereas in md, if you drop it, let's assume the md player/recorder is broken/unusable, but the content on the disc will still be intact, thus your valuable recording content is not lost. all you need is another MD player/recorder to gain access to that content on that particular disc. hope this will help you decide.

EMI classical and BMG (not sure if BMG has classical label tho). I can suggest you try: Vivaldi: The Four Seasons Handel: Water Music Suite

Unfortunately, all those things you mentioned are true. sorry to hear that you are disappointed about NetMD generation of MDs. -

the Truth... is NO any other way. but you can 1. wrote a letter to the head of Sony Software engineering dept. (enclose with few hundred thousand dollars) and beg them to write a mac version of sonicstage specifically just for you. OR 2. wrote a letter to the head of Mac software engineering dept. (enclose with few hundred thousand dollars) and beg them to wrote a patch on Itunes and ITMS so that it will play/accept/transcode/encode to Atrac/Atrac3+ file format. so that you can download music to your MD. OR 3. Quit whining, just get a PC and be done with it.

I wonder if this proggie is acted just like Total Recorder or Audacity?!!? if the future version of it will support for Sony Atrac file format tho. Tunebite Article at cdfreaks.com Tunebite website

hahaha, you guys had it all wrong. Since the thread starter stating, Hi-MD is out of his league. why you people even bother recommending Hi-MD units?!?! I only stated Hi-MD are his only choices..but I didn't recommended anything. I was gonna suggest him look elsewhere after reading his post. @Mutant I know Hi-MD can upload 'digitally' only in atrac/atrac3+ codecs, & PCM, but remember Tarcka wants -- easy file transfers (i.e. able to create wave-file from recordings digitally) if he wants to accomplish that TODAY/now/at this moment in time, like uploading to PC and converting to wave file as he uploads. is do able without going thru third party software?!?! you and I both know it's do able with Total Recorder.. but then, this is not 'easy file transfer' and it's not what he wants. Thus, I still stand by my statment, there is no MD (includes Hi-MD) can upload 'digitally'. <- I mean to create wave file as it uploads to PC digitally.
-
don't think this thread belong in Hi-MD forum, more like belong in Find your mini-disc forum.. anyhow, sorry to inform you, atm, no MD is allow you to upload 'digitally'. However, Hi-MD allows you to play back your recordings thru USB, then use third party software like Total Recorder/Audacity (like many have suggested) into wave file, then burn onto CD. and if you are interest in either MD/NetMD, good luck, I don't think those units can play back thru USB, (correct me if I am wrong). so Hi-MD is your only choice.

not boost, but able to drive the subs. for loudness, just crank up the volume!! analogy your home receiver --> headphone amps --> high impedance headphone. w/o headphone amps, sound will come out distorted..maybe harsh..as you have to crank up the volume on receiver to drive your high impedance headphone w/ headphone amps, sound will come out smoother, not harsh or distorted. and don't have to crank up the volume on receiver to acheive the same effect. hope this helps, if you can understand my analogy, amps is there just to drive the subs.

OMG, I can't believe my eyes.. car audio isn't for noobs...not at all! different people have different interests. For a typical Car Enthuisast. all their knownledge is about cars. anything relates to cars. they will soak up the information. Because they spend so much time in their cars, they want to improve their car (whether it's mechanical aspect or the car audio aspect or even cosmetic aspect ) to aspire to a sorted uniqueness. hmmm, it's like each inidividual car owner want their car totally different from another car of same model. Sometimes, individuality is what they seek for. That's why they have car shows like HIN, and SEMA. @Aeriyn from what I gather from all your posts. Your interest is about Audio, Audio gear or even home audio. so I can assume you have more interest about Audio, portable audio and such. than it is for the interest in stuffs related to cars. But for a car enthusiasts, they have more interest in stuff related to cars than the interest on stuffs that has nothing to do with their cars. final thought, as you said.. it's shame it's illegal to wear can while driving. so what would the car enthusiast do? they would improve their car audio. as the stock car audio sounds like cr*p!! just because they spend so much time in their cars, and less time in their home, they want to move entertainment system from their home into their cars. This is why they spend so much on car entertainment. as I recalled, when I was member of such car enthuisast discussion forum, there 1 member there stating, she had spend about USD$2000 (not include labor for installation) approximately just for the car entertainment unit ( a head unit with the dvd screen) all in all, all I am saying is different people have different interests. that's all.
