for the line-out issue, i assume that you have to unplug the remote, otherwise the option "line out" in the output menu won´t show up, because it´s the same way with 1rst gen units. sad to hear about the digi-amp thing, it´s odd that they did that. i would really like to know for what reason.

actually, the pictures in the unupdated post are no photos, but "illustrator-ed" images, or made with 3-d rendering sofware, or whatever. see this Click for enlarged picture of the JOG dial - no way, this is no photo, you´ll agree. shiny objects and chrome optics cant really be photographed to look good, you´ll always have unwanted reflections, that mess it up. so they "fake" a photo. -still, they look so sweet, makes me want to get one immediately

i really like that one. so vicious when he gets him in the end again, with "vanity". just watched ocean´s twelve, was better than i expected, the first time i found a sequel better than the original film. got many unexpected twists.

yeah, like that it would work.. the problem is, i want to remove the background, and the head itself has a very similar color to the forum background. (i don´t want to see my atelier all the time, i´d get a guilty concience about sitting at the pc and doing "nothing") and the fine structure gets lost when its scaled like that. since i´ve worked on that thing pretty long, it´s kinda precious to me, and i´m not shure if i want it recognizable as the whole thing, perhaps only a detail of the structure or so. -oh man, thinking about art gets so complicated sometimes, it will drive me crazy one day.. thanks for trying to help, but i´ll have to figure that out for myself..

i´ve got 9 (1with the unit, and 8 bought separately) eight of which are already (partly) filled with either music or data. (haha... music data ! D.are R.estrict M.e, you´re right Syrius !) i´m planning to switch over completely to hi-mds the old ones simply don´t have enough space for me, because i like to carry a lot of music around with me, and in order to get a decent quality (=hi-sp) i need big disks... but i really hate those new casings, why did they have to make them so unnecessarily big ? i´m glad i still have enuugh of the old ones, so i can use those..

Hehe, try sniffing glue pretty cheap... ...nah don´t, not funny.. same ish here, the weekends suck. there are absloutely no decent clubs to go to, where they play "danceable" music. (i´d prefer rap music, mixed by a proper dj with good ´ol VINYL , house would be ok also). -nothing. back to the routines -you have to know, that i´m an art student, there´s lots of cliches.... ...and they´re all true ! (i´m not a painter, more of a sculptor, mac gyver style..) so if i don´t have courses early(2-3times a week), i get up at around 12am-2pm, sometimes i don´t sleep at all, cause i´m too fascinated of doing sth. else.. ..so i get up, walk over to the kitchen, see if there´s something to eat, often muesli, sometimes toast, or leftover stuff from yesterday. drink a black coffee "mexican style" (don´t know if that´s the correct term, put the coffee directly into the cup, then add the hot water, wait 2 mins, then agitate with a spoon, wait again for the powder to sink, ready! ) go back to my room with the coffee, hit my pc, check my emails, mdcf, teschke.de (forum around silent pc´s, in german), waste some time surfing around while i light my waterpipe (shisha, to be precise, i prefer peppermint tobacco) ... if i´m motivated, i produce some beats with reason, but recently i lack new samples, so i only work on the old ones... if i´ve got an "art" project going on, i don´t waste so much time, and walk over to the ateliers of the art academy. sometimes i take my bmx, to be more mobile, if i need to buy some "material". all of the time i carry my md with me, of course. riding bmx with your md on is mad fun, but i get very ruthless, cycling around like a lunatic. when i´ve done working ( the academy is opened from 7am to 11pm, so that´s rather late sometimes) i go home, and hopefully find something to cook in the fridge, "schwäbische maultaschen" is one of my favourites, spaghetti with pesto genovese, tortellini al forno, things fast to cook, that fill your belly well.. eat my meal in front of the telly, zapping around (german tv sucks !!!), smoke another head of my yummy peppermint tobacco, go back to my pc, and do pc stuff, -i´m not that lucky to have a girlfriend to argue with, so i "argue" with asia carrera 12pm-3am, go jogging in the park, meet the cops that are patroling there, they say "good morning", but i can´t really hear them, (minidisc ?) so i say "good evening". once they stopped me, asking me where i got inside, since the park is closed at night, told them i jumped over the fence, then they´d let me go, since that i´m wondering if it´s illegal to go inside at night... come home, take a shower, and hopefully i can sleep... -hummm.. how come i think it´s cool, to be messed up like that ? it´s not, is it.

Hey, that´s a pretty cool idea, i´ll consider building such a device, should be really fun.. though i got nothing constructive to contribute, (yet) only questions/suggestions: if you were "wild" you could simply solder a switch and a poti in line, plug it in, and try around with multiple values. and.. ...did sony use standard controllers on their remote´s displays ? - i doubt it, but if they did, it would be possible to add a display to the controllerbox quite easily i´m gonna measure out my rm-mc33l, will be nothing new, but proving your values..

Nice ! -very interesting, i tried around a bit as well.. i´ve got a 900 by the way 003 Ver. 1.100 euro "uncapped" ss ver. 2.1 with fairly different results, though used optical in at my md, optical out of my soundcard, playback of an original cd via winamp rec mode: pcm formatted hi md disk procedure works, once i got there, i decided to stay for a while, and play around -he didn´t change the play mode when entering so first i stopped the recording. immediately started looping just like vwa´s unit. counting down hex values. but i can press pause, stopping both the hex values and the playback, play again starts both, but pressing "next" will start the track again,(if it´s the only one, if there´s more, next track), the hex values showing "00" constanly and i can continue recording. i found out that i can do almost everything i can without being in "diagnose mode " only moving in groups is hampered somehow, you can access groups, but not single tracks. when playing back that group, however, by pressing next, you can play the next track after a bit of messing around , i found out, that after recording, he automatically switches to Hi-Lp and will from that on record in that mode, unless i change it. so i´d format the disk, changed to pcm again, recorded about 10 secs, stopped turned it off, and found out, that the unit didnt turn off completely, it still diplayed that diagnose line, saying "p00 ff" or "p00 00" (randomly or i don´t know how to reproduce it.. if i let it rest like that, it will slowly count up from "p00 xx" to "po5 xx" (i haven´t seen the 5 yet) and then will finally turn off. (normal off) i can change disks while in "diagnose suspend" but haven´t found out anything interesting with that yet. hitting the "magic code" again, while in "diagnose mode" (unit on, doing nothing, hold on) will enter service mode. i once landed in "key testing mode" with LOUD constant beep, but probably by accidentally pressing any buttons i didn´t want to, i couldn´t reproduce it. so i returned to normal mode and successfully played the recorded files. plugged in usb, opened SS, tracks showed up, were playable, and transferrable. once. i also tried using ss while in diagnose mode, it worked, but didn´t turn out any news. sorry for being so messy, i´m tired, and haven´t had the patience yet, to write up detailed values, perhaps i´ll do so tomorrow. sorry but thats too much for me, i have to make up a plan what to do, write it up and then process it, writing down the results immediately as they turn out. because right now i´m too excited about trying and finding things out, i can´t stand still.. Damn this is fun, but im not shure if there´s any point in doing this...

well, i used to be V E R Y pissed off about SS, for its well known issues.. ...but right now, i´ve chosen to take SS as a "neccessary evil", or to be a smartass: "if you can´t beat your enemy, make it your friend". (-oh, ..no.. -well, that would be too much, though... ) the point is, i can´t avoid it, so i stop bothering about, because i can't change anything about it anyway. if i didn´t, i would only piss off others constantly, and get eaten up from inside. so i use it to transfer my audios, delete the omg's, give it the finger, and that´s it. wishlist: instead of this stupid media library, there should be a browser window, to explore your harddisk's folders, and the chosen compression settings should be clearly visible, and more easily changeble. and why do i have to import files, before transerring them, that sucks. quit the shiny looks, and add some real and quick accessible functionality, it´s needed !

no not-working disk for me as well.. i drop disks periodically due to not paying attention, even dropped some intentionally, since i found the new casings stupid, and found out that the Hi-md's aren´t that safe in their keepings and loosely tangle around inside the case after dropping.. but they all still work

afaik you can do over 1million write and erase cycles before deterioration sets in, but why don´t you simply read the knowledge base on minidisc.org, it´s all up there !

native: german english 9 years at school, perhaps i´ll study it since i´m becoming an art teacher and need a 2nd subject to complete my studies. french 7 years at school. was on a student exchange twice. -and perhaps i´m gonna do french instead of the above... some offensive words in croatian and turkish, but you can´t count that... yarak ! i like talking french better than english, but hardly ever do it (mostly on parties, when i´m drunk), so i´m better in talking english, also because i watch many movies in english... -does anyone else like talking foreign languages on parties ? i´ve spent whole nights, almost saying no single german word(but instead switching around between french, english and schwyzerdütsch(swizz dialect of german, very tough, even for germans..)) pretty much fun to me.. spanish, or italian would be nice to know though. "survival"-italian is there, i was there many times, in the holidays. thrilled about asiatic languages, but they´re far too difficult for me, i think... (or too 'far away', metaphorically speaking) recently i´ve been thinking about foreign language idioms in one´s own language, as a phenomenom, a bad example would be "blitzkrieg".(very obvious where it comes from) or the french "je ne sais quoi". last week, i was baffled hearing phoebe of "charmed" saying "gesundheit" which i wouldn´t have considered to be known by americans.

i found it working with any other usb cable, (there´s two different mini-plugs, a and b, mini-b fits into md) about the space issue, -weird-, is the space furtherly getting less, if you repeat the procedure, or does it stop at a certain point ?

-i did in fact many of my friends use digital interconnections daily. (but they´re 'minidisc people' or tech loving or whatever) to me, it´s not only a quality thing, but also a convenience thing, i simply love recording my home-made beats directly from reason through optical out to my minidisc, instead of going through the hassels of rendering a wav, then importing it to ss, transcoding and transferring to md. and i avoid having unneeded files on my pc. - i only need to plug in one cable. i admit that this is not a very common use, but i think it´s a good example how versatile s/pdif is, and i believe, that much more people would use the format, if it was more common. people don´t really know about it, so they don´t care. i would love to have an all digital amp, with optical inputs, it would make wiring up the thing quite easier, and i wouldn´t have to bother about e-m interfearances. (not that i would hear it, but it still bothers me..) and many people have problems getting static due to bad electricity cabling in their house, optical cables have no such problems. of course professional audio people would use adat, or ebu as a digital interface, but for that, there´s no home equipment at all, so i´m fine with s/pdif... you´re right. but hey, the industry forces 'us' on formats all the time, why shouldn´t they once force us on something good ?

Hah! i just did the hack on my 900(euro-2-us) , and it worked. but it will probably never be able to overpower my akg k-270 headphones, so im fine with using it uncapped at full volume. but finally, decent volume ! thanx a lot...

if your disc is skipping, or unreadable, you could consider the above cleaning method. as an alternative, if that disc is very crucial to you, or you fear damaging it, somewhere in this forum (i forgot where, do a search) , i read about a backup service, where you can send your disc to, and they do a backup for you. probably quite pricey compared to the diy method, but it´s worth it, imho. minidisc is magneto-optical media. check http://www.minidisc.org if you want to find out more. note: this is somehow the wrong forum for this topic, Hi-MD, NetMD + MDLP, Pre-NetMD/MDLP, (don´t know what unit you´ve got) or even software support/faq would be more appropriate, since "this is not a technical support forum" (from the forum description). if an admin could be so kind, and move it ?
