  1. I don't know about any mic problem. I jst plug in a mic, adjust the levels and record. Theres a Live Recording section in these forums specifically for those type of questions. I'd suggest reposting that question down there. Cassette or vinyl is analog. Pretty everything else is digital. MD, CD, a computer hard disk (or MP3 player) is all digital. MD have a AD convertor. Which is a Analogue-to-Digital Convertor. Usually you try to convert Analogue-to-Digital as few times as possible. As the music is altered everytime you do it. Theres also a DA convertor aswell. Which converts digital to analog. You'll find a lot of discussion on which DA or AD is best. If the music is on the PC (digital) you would try to do a digital to digital transfer to MD. Which would be either by using USB or an Optical connection If you recorded from the PC analog out, to MD you could be converting digital to analog then back analog to digital. (DA>AD)Basically converting it twice. Usually you want to avoid that. Usually you'd only do a optical transfer if USB isn't available. As USB is quicker. A CD optical out to MD would also be a digital to digital transfer.
  2. With a MD maybe. If you are using something like a iPod with a bass rolloff problem it can balance out and sound ok.
  3. I wouldn't rate the survival of a NH700 in a fall. Mine feels very lightweight. Nothing like the tank like units I've had before.
  4. How about you compare a Sony MP3 player vs a HiMD. Really there should be little difference.
  5. Well it depends on the MD unit you are talking about. But... 1. USB transfer via SonicStage 2. See 1. above 3. No unlimited in the latest versions of SS. 4. Any files. Data via drag and drop, Music via SS. 5. These forums are the best you get. Alternatively the manual.
  6. SonicStage annoying? No way....
  7. Depends on the MP3 player, the earphones, the quality of the source material, If you want to read more about SQ I suggest you read the portable forums over on Head-Fi http://www.head-fi.org/
  8. Which minidisc recorder do you have?
  9. On reinstalling SS 3.3 I got asked that. But it registered fine and is working ok for me. But it does sound like a connection issue, where it can't find the web.
  10. All these questions are answered in this thread guys.... http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12882 All things point to 352 being a real bitrate. Its the only new bitrate you can play on your HiMD. ATRAC Lossless was also added but its only playable on your PC. However theres now a "high quality" option for encoding in other ATRAC bit rates. You should really read that thread and post your questions there though.
  11. Only player like that I know of is the iPod Shuffle, which is designed for random/shuffle playback. A lot of people I know listen to music like this rather than by album. Even on the shuffle you can turn off the random and just listen to one track after the next.
  12. Ok I've ripped a CD to wav, I don't get any higher/lower quality option. Then I transfer this as 352kps to the HiMD, I still don't get any higher/lower quality options. Do you only get them when ripping directly to Lossless and ATRAC? I wonder how high quality HiSP (256) compares to 352kps?
  13. Do you guys use the connect store that much? I never use it.
  14. Its simply the highest quality compressed format you can play on a HiMD. Thats why its a big thing. As to why Sony is only releasing it. Who knows, Sony is a mystery to most people.
  15. True. Makes sense. The reason I include the bitrate was because I just think it makes more sense when you are discussing different encodings that you include the bit rate.
  16. I reckon its should be abbreviation then bit rate.. ~~~~~~~~~~~ PCM (1.4mbps) SP(352)+ HiSP(256)+ HiLP(64)+ ~~~~~~~~~~~ SP(292) LP2(132) LP4(66) ~~~~~~~~~~~
  17. Modern business chases the fast buck, and the big bucks only. Which is why niche music and games are finding it hard to get published and distributed. Same with MD. Its simply a smaller market and everyones concentrating on the bigger markets instead. However smaller companies are quite happy with the profits to be made in niche markets. So maybe a leaner keener Sony might decide to keep MD, if its still making money for the company.
  18. I remember the only place that stocked them was Virgin, and then they never more than a tiny selection.
  19. Don't understand why chargers don't prevent this.
  20. No analog in? One of the main features. Why?
  21. HiMD doesn't play WAV so I assume you mean convert to WAV>>PCM then copy to HiMD? I see your point but all that really does it make a MP3 a massive file size. The SQ will remain the same as it was in a Mp3. (Just in case anyone else thinks it might improve the sound somehow.) Lots of people have commented that you can adjust the EQ to restore the SQ when playing a Mp3 directly. Lots of people reckon its ok, or good enoughg. Obviously if you want decent SQ you should re-rip the orignal CD to HiSP, PCM or the new 352kbps. I've two SP portables and one HiMD. I would go with HiMD everytime. It more flexible, and easier to user. If you have a MD/HiMD i think you'll try ATRAC and therefore MP3 support isn't all that important. So I'd vote for the NH1 aswell. Even with the 2nd gen units (I've a MH700) the cheaper units feel quite flimsy compared to the older MD's.
  22. My 2 cents At the moment, Personally the batteries, battery charger and disks are not of little interest to me in the bundle. The mic and case are definately worth it though. As would extra HiMD disks. I know the point is to clear stock, but I reckon for international customers the potential weight saving would be worth not including the batteries, charger and disks. I don't care if it doesn't effect the bundle price. I suppose though you might as well get them if you are paying for them anyway. You never know it might make me keep some music as SP. Obviously if its a unit that takes a gumstick battery then that, and the AC charger are required. I haven't got around to ordering yet, but thanks Sefu for keeping us informed. Its appreciated by many I'm sure.
  23. The bass response is very dependent on the fit/seal you get. It would also depend on the player you are using. For me the panasonic are ok. Not very bassy and not bass lite either.
