Welcome to ATRACLife! It seems that the regional version (usually either EU or US) of SonicStage you have installed requires you to reinitialize your Network Walkman. For future reference, if you do not require CONNECT music service, please try installing the Asia-Pacific version of SonicStage. Most users have reported that the Asia-Pacific version does not require re-initialization of the ATRAC device. I personally utilize the Japanese version and never had to reinitialize any of my ATRAC devices thus far. Please note this is not a recognition problem per say. This is actually a well-known issue regarding SonicStage's cumbersome re-initialization requirements. There are many discussions about this issue within the "Software" section of the forum – where a user using SonicStage (regardless version number) especially of US or European region are required to initialize their respective ATRAC device for every version update. If you are updating from a US or European version of SonicStage, you will likely experienced this cumbersome re-initialization issue. At the moment, you will need to re-initialize your device for SonicStage use - especially for the facilitation of ATRAC music. However, if you only employ Mp3s, you may want to check out independent utilities designed by our members, e.g. GYM, ML_SONY and VoidMP3FM. Further notes on re-initialization: read this post

She is brilliant indeed! In addition, her rendition of this particular Chopin set included all 21 Nocturnes, which is amazing.

I would say it is related to Vista. Please review this thread for discussion pertaining to running SonicStage under Windows Vista.

SonicStage Playback Issue: Some Mp3s just won't play
Ishiyoshi replied to navsimpson's topic in Software
Just out of curiosity, do you employ any sort of codec packs? One such that may cause playback issue with SonicStage is FFDSHOW. If you do have codec packs within your system, you may want to try uninstalling the codec packs. In the future, don't install codec packs. Rather, install the individual codec by itself - codec packs are bad for your system. -
This is a known issue resulting from using codec packs such as FFDSHOW. As outlined within our Hi-MD/NetMD SonicStage Software FAQ: Previous installations of codec packs [namely, FFDSHOW] may affect playback of ATRAC3/plus and Mp3 files. To fix this, try uninstalling the codec packs. In the future, don't install codec packs. Rather, install the individual codec by itself - codec packs are bad for your system!

SonicStage Playback Issue: Some Mp3s just won't play

Most users with similar issue will tend to retag those affected files, i.e. remove the old tags and rename them from the title to the comments. I hope this method will work for you. Good luck. -
Happy Birthday, Mr_Bass_Man!

Where are those music files located? Is it within the default folder of SonicStage "My Library" or elsewhere? If it’s the former, you may want to consider importing "new" music (e.g. wav or Mp3) into SonicStage from another folder. If you just attempt to drop those new music into the default folder and attempt to import, that error message: "Cannot find files that are not registered to Sonic Stage. Error code 00007180" will appear.

SonicStage Playback Issue: Some Mp3s just won't play

You may need to re-tag (with utility such as Tag&Rename) those Mp3s in question for it to playback properly with Sonictage. -
