  1. indeed, the venue is great (Acienne Belgique) but the highs were'nt very clearly present. still I'm wondering whether my stealth setup (with the croakies as can be seen in the thread linked in my signature) doesn't further 'muffle' the sound (while the fabric is pretty thin and woven with large holes so I always thought it wouldn't) but that doesn't explain why the audience sounds clear so it was the mix I guess When I have the time, I'll check against some of my other recordings
  2. ...or you could get a HiMD and get 8 hours of HiSP (256kbps) and do not have to choose quantity over quality ...or get the RH1 and put Lame VBR new V4 MP3's on there and you'll have even more music at a good/great quality still while I do agree with the use what works best for you idea, I personally wouldn't enjoy 5 hours of music if I knew and more importantly I could hear it was inferior quality
  3. @ MTVictor... welcome back to MD-land hope you'll enjoy the RH1 as much as I do!
  4. ah yes, I see... that post still has the old link and greenmachine's old address is now indeed not connected to mics in any way try the address greenmachine provided a couple of posts earlier (http://www.geocities.com/greenmachine_audio/) PS: I'll edit the old post so I won't provide these gansters with more potential 'customers' anymore
  5. - if you live in Europe (which you do IIRC...Spain wasn't it?) greenmachine's mics are your best option for music recordings IMHO just check this concert registration I did using greenmachine's stuff and/or check out his website (still in German only, but if PM him with any question he'll gladly help you) he offers price reduction for MDCF members and A440 has created a thread on this as well - if you live in N-Am, soundprofessionals is a good place to start from as they offer a whole range of mics in different quality/price levels (but they become expensive when ordering from Europe due to import taxes and VAT etc) hope this helps
  6. because the NH1 is first gen... as said before track titles etc are written in the TOC (table of contents) which can be read by mac software, but unless the music has been written into the HiMD file by a mac-compatible machine, it won't upload...as said before
  7. as promised, a link to the mogwai show on archive.org --- link --- unlike the CD-edit I posted in the gallery overhere, this version is completely unedited (except for a little amplification and small cut of the audience noise at the beginning and a fade-out at the end) and as I wanted to keep it unedited, I didn't upload the encore (Mogwai Fear Satan) as I missed the beginning (pressed 'stop' instead of 'pause' between main set and encore) also it is available in lossless (FLAC), and lossy compressions (ogg, VBR-MP3, low-bitrate MP3) and as a stream (low and high bitrate MP3) I really hope this way more ppl can enjoy my recording... please feel free to share but respect the idea of the live music archive and the copyrights of Mogwai If you like what you hear, feel free to leave some feedback (here or on archive.org) and of course if you have some critique...feel free to post that as well (though I'd prefer praise of course )
  8. as the RH1 will display the rec-levels beautifully itself, I guess no one (including me) has had the need to see if the RM-MC40ELK still does this trick as well... right now I haven't got my RM-MC40ELK with me, so I can't check, sorry. I have checked all playback functions of the Rm-MC40ELK and the RH1 and there seems to be only one minor difference (which is the same with 2nd gen) so I dare to say that it would show rec levels just the same as any other HiMD... but really, an LCD remote connected while recording induces quiet(ish) staticy noise which can clearly be heard over more quiet recordings. So the fact that the recorder displays the levels itself is actually a big improvement... PS: I just saw you were 'bumping' a question that's not even a day old...please, this is a board, not a customer support live-chat sometimes it takes a while for the right person to read the post... be patient
  9. simply put...nope...the USB connection on NetMD is PC->MD one way only, HiMD on the other hand does offer uploads. you can: - buy an RH1 as it will upload old recordings (the only existing model at this moment that will!) - 'rerecord' your recordings in realtime from headphone out to line-in on PC with audacity (exact procedure is described in a pinned thread in the live rec subsection)
  10. just remember that there is no way to get real SP from PC->MD through USB... the SP SS offers is really rebadged LP2 (and it is even transcoded by the machine as well so it is actually less quality than LP2) so stick with LP2 for transfers and get SP through realtime recording
  11. really old MD-players perhaps only understand 60 or 74 minute discs... get one of those and try if you can
  12. glad to hear things are working now... enjoy the little machine
  13. congrats on your RH1...welcome to the HiMD-club! can you see it as a (HiMD-)device in SS when connected with the 74min disc in there (open SS first, then connect the RH1 with the disc inserted already) ...cause I don't really get the problem. Do you want to transfer music to the disc? then you have got to use SS or S(imple)B(urner) (no drag and drop and no autostarting program for music transfer either)... or do you want to transer data? (in which case you should just open the 'unknown device I guess)
  14. hi Dherren, welcome to MDCF... I see you quote a post by me, that means you read a bit of this thread... ...that should mean that you have seen the answer already, but perhaps you missed it. I'll try to explain it again very clearly. with the mac software you can: - upload (MD -> mac) HiMD (= HiLP, HiSP or PCM) recordings made with a mac-compatible machine (only the MZ-M10, MZ-M100, MZ-M200 and the MZ-RH1) - download (mac -> MD) MP3's to all HiMD's that are capable to play MP3's without conversion so that means 2nd gen (RH710, RH910, RH10) and later with the mac software you cannot (really we tried): - upload legacy (in this case any non-HiMD) recordings (not even legacy recordings made with the RH1) - upload HiMD recordings made with a non-mac-compatible machine (this moment that means all MD recorders except the M10, M100, M200, RH1) - download MP3's to a non-native-MP3 playing MD (so no downloads for 1st gen HiMD and before) - download anything else than MP3's the B-models are non-HiMD, non-mac-compatible so they produce non-HiMD = legacy recordings made with a non-mac-compatible machine --> so there are 2 reasons (and one is already enough) why these recordings will not be uploadable to mac on the other hand, these recordings are uploadable to PC through USB with the RH1 but that is already discussed widely in other threads
  15. the fact that you were able to play them until the unit was turned off reminds me of TOC-errors or more precisely the recorders unability to write and save the TOC... this does sound quite terminal but I'm no hardware wiz... perhaps someone more hardware minded can chip in
  16. I probably will...I had already thought about that...but I prefered 'testing the water' overhere a bit to see if my recording was up to standards of archive.org when I have some time I'll probably upload a complete unedited FLAC or WAVEPACK version of the show to archive.org (I'll post an update and link here once I've done it) thanks for reminding me greenmachine PS: I just realized... is your nickname from the likenamed song on kyuss' "blues for the red sun"?
  17. no it is not possible, only from mac-capable units (M10, M100, RH1, M200) can one upload recordings to mac (and for those models there is a program, which can be found in the news section...but believe me, uploading won't work for any other model, though you cold download MP3 from mac->RH910 with it)
  18. forget it raintheory no matter how often it is written down, ppl will keep trying, will keep failing... and will keep complaining
  19. first thing: do you have any windows skins running as this freezes SS secondly: please read and post according to the rules for posting as this provides us with much needed info to help you... further: be as precise as possible in describing you problem AND the circumstances (system specs, other programs running, virus scanners, viri,...) you can't give oo much info lastly: please be patient with us we're only a board full of MD-lovers and no Sony-support we will try and help you, but it may take a while and sometimes (not often ) we simply don't know... hope we will be able to help!
  20. I simply prefer long cords, even with remotes. I keep the RH1 in a caselogic pouch on my belt with the remote clipped to the pouch and this only works with long corded phones with the RP-JE50's (short cord + optional extension) I'm always irritated because it is always pulling on my ears (either the remote or the bump where the extension is attached) heck, I even used to use my Senn HD497 (with 3m cord ) portably... then I'd use a simple binder for freezerbags to keep the excess cord together and store it in the pouch as well
  21. if you are playing at 14-20/30... why complain that the RH1 isn't loud enough? You've still got 10 increments left to raise volume. If 20/30 is a bit too quiet, you don't have to go for 30/30... 23 will be louder already without going into the (distortion prone?) last couple of notches. with efficient phones, the RH1 is more than loud enough (even the unhacked European version) and the line-out mode works great with stereos etc... PS: I have got the Senn MX 350 and 450(=exactly like the 550 but without the volume control) and I must agree with dogville that they lack bass... still they are good buds and the lack of bass can be eq'ed. I use them very little (only in the gym) mostly because they are quite big for my ears and do not provide a comfi listening experience (I don't mind as much working out, as I'm definitely not comfi then whether the phones are or not )
  22. dogville, what headphones are you using with the RH1? I use either my Panasonic RP-JE50 in ear (so good passive noise blocking) or Sennheiser PX100 and both seem to be more than adequately efficient as I can use the great greenmachine-eq-setting (all bands -1 or lowest band -1 and the rest at -2) for a bit of deep bass boost (which lowers overall output volume a bit) and still get enough volume at 16-20/30 (depending on the environment) though the PX100 (because of their open design) are not really suitable for listening in (semi-)noisy environments, even at an unhealthy loudness
  23. ...and there really is no internal mic on the RH1 (nor on the M200) (just to avoid misunderstandings) Sony is known for its lousy info on its sites etc. the Belgian site still says it can use AA besides LiION which isn't true eiher (before anyone picks up on this )
  24. @ greenmachine: a LiION battery suffers much more from: - bad storage (storing it fully charged, fully discharged and/or at hot temperatures) - deep(ish) discharging it (to often) I will quote the BatteryUniversity some more: as far as I understand it and have noticed myself it doesn't suffer from memory effect (which is what causes loss of power in NiMH) still LiION will simply lose capacity over time (used or unused, so not bound to cycles and often even faster unused because of bad storage circumstances) but
  25. ah ... perhaps that's what the Sony SonicStage Conversion Tool is for it converts/translates SS-speak into normal language
