I don't know much about headphone Specs: Please HELP ME!
The Low Volta replied to viiv's topic in 'phones
... ah but: *imagine the voice of a snotty, wisecracking six-year old* - I only have the 931 so I can't honestly answer the question not even for me personally (and for anyone else would be very difficult as I don't know someone elses ears ) - if short cord and a good headphone is the main point, get the panasonic RP-JE50 (they DO have a short cord and they sound better than any stock-buds I've heard before...including the 931) or if you want to go for short cord and class: get the Sony D66SL eggo's... just under $100, sound great (I heard, mine should arrive further this weak) and look the bomb -

*imagine a 'broken record' or 'irritating parrot'* - best value for money upgrade earbuds if you do not want to spend much money: Senn MX350 (+/- $5-10) or MX450 (+/- $10-15) - best value for money upgrade in-ear phones: Panasonic RP-JE50 (+/- $25-30) and Senn CX300 (not really expensive, but I don't really know price range) - best value for money 'great little headphone': Sennheiser PX100 (I paid $40 and haven't regret any cent of it yet) and there are more options... -

@ finalcoolman: where are you located? (this could help to see what your options are) -
I do have the greenmachine mics and I agree totally with the above ... for a sample of what g's mics and battery box can do check out the live recordings linked in the 'my stealth setup'-thread in my signature

well, benelux is pretty local as it stands for three small countries Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg but still, it wasn't local enough to go and meet the person face-2-face... I saw this auction quite a while ago when I was looking for an amp to drive my Senn HD497 from my NH900. I ended dropping the amp idea and going for a more efficient pair of phones... But I just thought about it again as I'm currently looking at ebay for a cheap portable amp to drive the Sony D66SL eggos a bit more comfortably I didn't really look further into the auction at the time but as I think about it now, it might not have been that unsafe after all as you would at least have gotten the seller's real name and address (if not, for instance with a PObox it would have been such a clear scam that no-one would fall for it I guess) perhaps it was just some young kid (without paypal) not wanting his parents to know about it so prefering cash over tracable bank-transactions

hi, two additional questions strictly related to the eggo's (but if you think this might be too distracting from the main purpose of his thread, feel free to drop 'em in a thread of their own)... - has anyone here ever performed the Bower-mod (the one with the holes in the membranes, not the filter mod... see also this page)? Is it worth it? Is it a sure no-go? - the eggos are meant to be portable phones and that will be my main use for them, and as such are expected to perform quite well with a low-power source... but do they still benefit from a dedicated portable headphone amp? I'll be traveling by train/plane often and as I always carry a bag with my 12" PowerBook G4 I could easily stuff a flatpack containing my RH1, a small preamp and a couple of discs in there so I'm looking at a couple of cheap but decent little preamps (the Pengamp Cmoy and the Little Dot Micro+ essentially) and I wonder whether it would actually be worth it to go RH1 -> line-out -> pre-amp -> D66SL. well, interested in what y'all think about this...

indeed, I do not like paypal... it simply is a safer way to pay over the internet than giving your credit card data each time but that doesn't mean it is flaw-free (it is a commercial company handling your money and they do ask for fees especially when switching currencies etc) still, when buying from fleabay etc. I prefer paypal as it gives at least some extra safety when dealing with ppl I have decent contact with, I'd prefer international money transfers for safety as it is straight from bank->bank without any possibility for unwanted onlookers... but these things do cost as well (pretty steep fees for some countries) but let's be fair, while each system has its particular problems... it all is still better than the portable headphone preamp I was looking at on almost-for-freebay: it looked very interesting (used but pics looked ok and very very cheap and only for benelux buyers) but then I saw that the seller required you to send the cash in an envelope and he would ship once the cash arrived... yeah right

Bye Bye Doggy (which Hi-MD unit disappointed you most)
The Low Volta replied to 1kyle's topic in Minidisc
well, I haven't bought it myself (but a collegue/good friend did) and I must agree with you that the RH10 was quite disappointing for me personally. I think ppl who wanted a player>recorder might have liked it, but for me personally it had nothing over the NH900 (except the screen, but I did have an RM-MC40ELK and the RH10 < NH900+RM-MC40ELK) YMMV, but I think the RH10 was just a symptom of Sony chosing 'style' (well the shiny plasticy style they have also tried on the big HD-MP3 players) over functionality and quality glad they designed the RH1 after they learned that at least the MD-community isn't really interested in plastic MP3-player style but want a (good llooking) metal and fully functional recorder (well most of them... I know one person at least here would surely disagree and for some (well actually just one) other(s) all Sony HiMD's are a disappointment as they do not offer super mega overdrive who-needs-full-frequency-music-if-you-only-listen-to bass (just kidding...please guys, just take this as the joke it is and do not start those 'one argument' discussions again) -

honestly, since we're talking about Sony stockbuds... I don't think 'better' is a good word I do not know where you are from, finalcoolman, but look around in brick and mortar stores locally as I'm sure you'll find the Sennheiser MX300/350/400/450 which are much better value for money earbuds (still these have long cords) I can understand you want to upgrade, I just can't understand someone would import stockbuds all the way from Japan. If you really want to import, get some Sony, Sennheiser or Panasonic in-ear phones with short cord or get the D66SL eggos (short cord, great sound, look very good, Sony (can be considered a plus or a minus ), healthier to wear than earbuds,...) -
I'm one of his VERY satisfied customers no really, I am and I would recommend the greenmachine mics anytime!

I do not know how you got to get your mind set on these Sony earbuds, so I do not know how 'open' you are to other recommendations... but hey, here it goes. I got the E0931's as stock-buds with my RH1 (European version). While they do make great stock-buds (not as lousy by far as the ones I got with the NH900) they definitely do not warrant the $29 price Audiocubes want for them! If you want cheapo but pretty good sounding earbuds (though a bit on the bass-light side) get some Sennheiser MX300, MX350 (about $5-10) or MX400, MX450 (about $10-15) if you are open for other types of phones than earbuds, there are even better cheap but great-sounding options like the Sennheiser PX100 (over the head, about $30-40) or panasonic RP-JE50 (in ear...$20-30) or the grado SR60 (very open and over the head but still brilliant rock headphones... $30-40 IIRC) and the Koss KSC75 (or KSC35 but these only sell through the Koss site and only to N-Am... these are great sounding clip-on phones...$10-20) all available at roughly the same price and sounding much better! you should also read 'the almighty headphones under $100'-thread in the phones section as this shows even more options if you would be able to stretch your budget a bit -
wav conversion tool does not recognize sonic stage 4.0

you're welcome dif, be sure to post a bit of the birds singing to the live recording gallery when transfer is done... I bet there are a lot of ppl here interested in what Borneo birds are like by the way, welcome to MDCF... this forum is a great source of MD-info... stick around, read a bit and perhaps once you learn more about HiMD (including the pretty low price of some of the models ) you might want to upgrade your recorder... -

well, you're 'stuck with them on MD' only in as far as there is no USB-transfer possible... you can still 'transfer' them in the old trusted way (like everyone did before HiMD was invented) but it is more realtime rerecording than transfering actually still, this should get your recordings on PC without the need for a new MD -
no probs A440! for that one time I was able to correct you, I delete my post ... just kidding
-
huh... it looks that way indeed... but I didn't really do it on purpose I guess I must have accidentally 'clicked' (my mac touchpad is set to respond to taps as clicks but it is way too sensitive ) the delete button... just for clarity, I seem to remember I posted something like: and then the advice for a cheaper downloader (in which I misspelt the DH710 ) quoted by jaylen

I'm on mac OSX (12" G4 powerbook) and winXPpro (HP portable) but I use the mac more by far so that's what I'll vote for... glad my RH1 plays nice with mac

line-in recording? this has a silence-induced auto-trackmark function you simply cannot cancel... just upload and combine in SS (it isn't that bad actually) mic-in?... dunno what happened, as this shouldn't be doing that

A Beautiful Revelation -- the Epic MZ-RH1 Arrives
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in News
@ Olga: welcome to MDCF and feel free to ask further questions about SS (if you still have some after reading a bit ) in the 'software support' subsection @ Fat Muttony: please read the one but last sentence by Olga in the post above... -
no probs atrain... as I said before, they ARE easy to avoid (perhaps through a filter by the mods, but I'l let you guys figure out the best options) but more importantly: by the members as well!! if you are easily offended by spam subjects and you feel personally attacked when you open a thread like that, just follow these guidelines: do not open a thread if: - it has a smiling smily as a thread emoticon - and it is situated in the off-topic section while this should be enough to avoid all spam threads, it might once in a while exclude a real thread, so here are some further 'tips' to prevent that from happening. Spam-threads can often be identified by: - (not really) cryptic titles that cleary point to the spam-subjects - double titles (same in title as in description) - member names with lots of numbers in them - it is the member's first post (and last as our fast mods kick them out as soon as the thread is discovered ) well, as long as there hasn't been any structural solution found, just use this guide and you'll never read those threads again still my biggest complaint is that there are way too many of those threads now for atrain and richyu to write witty responses or to 'mod' the thread into some sort of surrealist fun

a happy one wayward! and also to you dieselducy...wherever you both may roam

- if you set the playback mode to normal (instead of group play) you should actually shuffle through all tracks - the update of SS just gave us extra bitrates, some we can use with HiMD, some we can't: the old ones HiSP (256bkps) and HiLP (64 kbps) and PCM (full CD quality at 1411kbps) are still there, as are the older NetMD things: LP2 (132kbps) and fake SP (292kbps but at the qualiy of LP2 or even slightly lower) I don't really know what new ones work with HiMD and I'm not near my PC (typing this on a mac ), so I can't check, but I do know that 192kbps and 352kbps do work with all HiMD's PS: all this can be found in a.) the NH600D's user manual (older bitrates and shuffle play); b.) SS-help (newer bitrates) and c.) all over this forum (all issues and the NH600D's user manual as well)... so perhaps search a bit before opening a new thread
-
with mac, you would need a MP3-compatible HiMD (RH series and M-models) and first rip your CD's to MP3 (can very easily be done from within itunes, even using the great Lame encoder with a nice little script called itunes-lame) and then transfer using the 'HiMD Music Transfer' mac software... but I guess that isn't really helpful as I think the HiMD decks do not play MP3's PC's do have lots more functionality with HiMD (like direct CD->MD faster than realtime with SimpleBurner)
-
well, but NiMH isn't LiION so this (while it is tragic) doesn't really mean anything for the fake or not lip-4wm issue
-
just a stupid question probably as I do not know how much a forum like this can be molded to your own wishes... but, as this forum is overrun (well, perhaps that's slightly exaggerated ) by spam-threads perhaps something to think about: - the spam threads are each time in the off-topic section - they use the smiling smily as their 'thread emoticon' perhaps we can instal a filter on the off-topic section that 'buffers' all new threads with a smily so that they aren't made public until 'approved' by a mod and if we setup a disclaimer/warning against the smily, we could warn real members so that they avoid their threads becoming buffered (but then we would only 'catch' spambots...uh, are these threads created by humans or bots? darn, I really don't know enough about the subject I guess ) well, it is just a thought... feel free to flame it down till there's nothing left but ashes

A Beautiful Revelation -- the Epic MZ-RH1 Arrives
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in News
yes, that is exactly what it means... but it is even a bit more strict, only HiMD-mode (HiLP, HiSP or PCM) recordings made with a mac-compatible HiMD-recorder (wich is the MZ-M10, M100, M200 and RH1 and no other machine) can be uploaded to mac the old discs can be uploaded to PC though
