  1. very off topic but... ...yes it is (from my student room a couple of years back)
  2. I have a very good but small alternative CD-store near my parent's house (Hasselt) that sells lots of imports and hard to find CDs... I got mine (almost all of their albums) from that shop for about €14 a piece on their show they sold all of their albums for €10 a piece (but I didn't have any cash on me anymore unfortunately) but mostly I get my CDs from proxis.be or amazon.com etc as I'm often going for CDs the store has to order as well and then I do not like to pay extra for them just so I can get them at a 'store' I think EITS have taken some time off for rehearsing their new songs... I do not think they will be touring soon, but just check their website if you wanna be sure
  3. the procedure described in that thread works only for 1st gen HiMD's (NH...) but rest asured, also the 2nd gen can be hacked... just see this thread
  4. Haven't really bought this...it was a birthday present from my girlfriend...but I'm happy about it so I thought I'd just show it off overhere anyway Tivoli Audio⎟SongBook (in red) [attachmentid=1543] this is a great weather resistant rubber coated FM/AM radio/alarm clock with aux-in and amazingly good audio-quality seeing it has only one small speaker! oh and I love the cartoonesque look (it looks like it fell out off a Simpsons' episode)! Just say Yes to fun and a BIG NO to boring white speakers (take that you iPuddle... just kidding... this also sells in white and there's even a bag for it with extra room for an iPod ) it really is great as it runs (really long!!) on six AA's (or the ac-adaptor) and it can even charge those batteries when plugged in. It has great FM-reception even in Brussels where there are way too much radiostations on limited frequency... and as it is this light and small (about 15-20-5cm H-W-D) and splash resistant it is a perfect companion for those wonderful nights/afternoons outside with a bunch of friends and good music!! (coming from my NH900 plugged in the side) I will be traveling a lot in the near future... but you can bet that this baby and my NH900 will be folowing me around all the time! darn ain't I just too lucky with such a girlriend?
  5. very good choice... I'm currently lostening to my own recording of the show they played in he Botanique (brussels) November 14th of last year (in wav on my mac through my phones)
  6. mrsoul: for keeping levels etc, 'hold' isn't really necessary anymore as this model remembers the settings even when turned off... but anyhow I do not think they would have ditched 'hold' as it has been on every MD-model I've ever seen
  7. another one that would have wanted the 'ultimate useless gadget' and seems to miss the point that before the real consumerism took off, machines were mostly intended to do one thing, but to do that one thing good... HiMD is a recording technology and the RH1 is clearly designed for that! If you want to record, the ONLY thing that could bug you about this is Sony's choice of battery... if you want a phone that can play music...just go and buy a phone hat can play music, they exist you know! I for one (but I know there are more like me out here) am really glad they finally moved away from that gadgetry like rubbish cameras/phone/big displays that only are good for playback,... a shame they forgot that ultra-slimness is gadgetry as well so we could all have lived with a gumstick or even an AA battery Thank you Sony for the RH1... I'm sure it will be great untill the next generation (HiMD or solid state) recorder surpasses it again... but I'm sure it will take some years as this one was well thought out!! * edited language
  8. there is no such option in SS but if you download SimpleBurner (available from the downloads section here in these forums) which does allow the direct transfer...but it still needs SS to work.
  9. hey, please do no blame A440 for you not expressing yourself clearly: he probably has the answer to a lot of your questions...at least if we can understand the question. as for recording, there isn't really any significant difference between using a MD or a HiMD-disc. You have a couple of options: - connect a mic to mic-in (the red port on the HiMD) = recording - connect a line out or a mic+batt-box or mic+pre-amp to the line-in (white port) = recording as well - connect with USB to a PC (not a Mac or a linux-based PC), use Sonicstage (the most recent version 3.4 can be found in the downloads section) or Simple Burner (available from the same place) and transfer music from PC to HiMD/MD = downloading of course if you need to create a disc that can be played in non-HiMD equipment, when recording (so not with PC->HiMD) you should set the rec-mode to SP or LP2 (which is only possible with the first gen HiMD (the NH- models) and not with the second gen (RH-) as they simply can't record in those modes) while using PC->HiMD you should format as MD (not HiMD) in SS or SB... so now do you see why isn't a straightforward question and why A440 actually answered your question perfectly? so yes, when going from PC->MD you need software (but it is the same software for MD- or HiMD-discs) while on the other hand: if you are trying to get music from an external source->MD/HiMD you need a mic or a line-in, but not software you do not need extra software so you can use a standard MD in a HiMD-recorder PS: all of this could have been avoided if you had taken the time to read a manual before asking inanely vague questions! sorry for being rude, but you haven't really been polite to A440, one of our respected contributors here, either!
  10. same ideas as mrsoul...this is a great recorder (and I do not really need a player), only the battery is a bit of a let-down but I will definitely be getting a (black?) RH1
  11. thanks all for the congrats! I had a very filled day of work yesterday (meetings an congress and even more stuff) so I have only just started to feel it's my b-day (even if it has actually already passed )
  12. no other remote than the RM-MC40ELK shows rec-levels... sorry!
  13. just wait a bit for the RH1 this will record into and upload the old (SP, LP2) modes as well as HiMD (as far as we know)
  14. the new RH1 HiMD-model will allow uploading (through USB and SS) of SP-discs and save it as wav... so you could offer it to the ones that do not get the RH1, but a number of ppl will be able to do it for themselves (best keep that in mind when quoting a price )
  15. perhaps they were not converted? see if you have 'transfer as is' set or any other settings wrong in the transfer settings menu (under tools) and go into the advanced as well as there are options that could cause such
  16. the panasonic RP-JE50's sound good and can be found on ebay for $25... but b aware, they do come with the asymetric cord
  17. garcou...you could be right (I dunno...never heard of that stuff personally) and as such it is some nice info... but I do not think that this does contribute to the discussion, it will only cause more confusion. The post I reacted to refered to UMD as HiMD in a special jacket, which it isn't! We're talking about two existing formats not being the same. Even if there is a third unrelated technology that does combine DVD-wavelenght and magneto-optical storage, it does not mean that UMD in any way would/could be compatible with HiMD
  18. I already tried to convince laplace to share the hack...but as she didn't 'invent' it and she doesn't get permission of the guy that showed her to share it, she won't
  19. if repeatedly recharged when not fully empty it will remember that level as 'empty' thus limiting the bettery life you get even with a fully charged one when using the USB to charge it doesn't fully charge IIRC, so you end up with a not fully charged battery that thinks it is empty before it really is so try not to do this too often (remove the battery when connecting to PC, use untill empty, charge fully,...) for more info on batteries: read up on www.batteryuniversity.com
  20. but if you win it...it will fit the NH1, DH10P and RH1
  21. according to dex's good and pretty convincing explanations it would really need an upgrade of the player (firmware) to allow such uploads, so pretty certain it will be limited to the RH1-model (unless there will be firmware upgrades which I doubt)
  22. refering to the rec-settings being retained or not question: MDfreak will be able to handle one tomorrow I believe... he will test a lot of stuff... perhaps I should send him a PM asking him to test this as well
  23. @ MZ1: levels have been adjustable on the fly with all HiMD models @ kurisu: one remark, the Japanese site (Ishi linked to it in the other thread) reports the body being made out of magnesium *I was corrected by Ishii
  24. the upcoming RH1 will allow USB-uploading of those MD's, but currently there is no player that will allow such the current HiMD models allow USB-uploading for HiMD recordings (not for the older MD modes SP/LP2/LP4/Mono) check out Marcnet's HiMD-renderer (just search these forums for it, he has a whole subsection dedicated to his software), as it has a similar function as WinMD but 1) it works (although in realtime) and 2) it is free, but if you like it...please donate some money to Marcnet
