in the announcements by Sony it is said to ship with SS3.4 and the mac software...no other software mentioned
-
the levels will be adjustable on the fly, but as soon as you press stop you'll have to go into the menus again and set it to manual again (no real problem but kinda annoying) if you can wait for the RH1 (it'll come out in a month) it will be mac compatible as well and will remember the manual setting as well... just check the news-threads on the RH1 here on these forums for more info

Convert ATRAC to WMA/MP3/etc. via Sound Forge 8.0d
The Low Volta replied to hpmoon's topic in Software
outside the HiMD Renderer box? This guy has made possible what Sony didn't allow for a long long time... I for one do think it still is great and honestly I guess you'll find more happy users of HiMD renderer on these forums than SoundForge users besides, I'll just wait a bit until the atrac SDK is being discovered/implemented by the software creating community ... then a lot more features to HiMD renderer or another program or even completely new open source/cheaper software could be possible (unless Sony decides to charge through the nose for the developers kit of course so we really DO have to buy SoundForge for a conversion to 64kbps WMA) -
first thing is to check whether your windows is fully updated... next try a clean reinstal of 3.4 as described in this thread and see if things are working MP3's should be 44.1/16 as SS/MD do not play nice with other formats for further help, please read and follow the rules/instructions (the link in the red/pinkish box above this thread) for posting in the software support sections (i.e. provide more info like computer specs etc. so we can help you find the problem) welcome to these forums and I hope we can help you

RH10 vs RH910 vs NH700 and mics (recommendations please?)
The Low Volta replied to ari's topic in Minidisc
glad to hear HiMD is working out fine for you... be sure to search these threads for bass roll-off or something alike as that kind of batt-boxes have been discussed before... but, best is not to use any bass roll-off. Just use the batt-box to power the mics (through line-in) at a loud show. If the thing doesn't overload (it never has for me and I've been to really loud shows) you can always lower the bass when editing on PC, but if you use roll-off, you can never get it back as it simply isn't in the recording -
hm, not instigated by a corporation but by the fact that it actually can do what we've been asking for ... I guess that's called genuine interest as 1kyle so aptly put it and shion but not too proud to sell a malfunctioning NH900 'just as new' on ebay (as you admitted yourself)... you know the one about the pot and the kettle?

Convert ATRAC to WMA/MP3/etc. via Sound Forge 8.0d
The Low Volta replied to hpmoon's topic in Software
one very big problem with this technique: it requires Sound Forge... which is a $300+ program! Why would anyone want to get a program as expensive as my recorder just for conversions to WMA/MP3? I'll stick with the honest programming efforts of marcnet: HiMDRenderer... I haven't come across any conversion I couldn't tackle with the use of HiMDRenderer or in the worst case in two steps by conversion to wav and editing and further conversion with another free program like audacity, etc... I really think there are lots of other (and in SQ just as good) ways to do this *edit: slightly edited... lost my handbag -
ok, as far as I see it (and many like me interested in recording might agree) 1. no problem, this is handy for playback only...if I want a player, I'll buy a player...I want a recorder and the RH1 looks like a great recorder... no problem 2. it is positioned great for recording / it actually consitis of two parts (2lines or even 3 but next to each other) / as OLED is still in its infancy I trust a smaller display more than a big one / again this is only really for playback...did I already mention this wasn't intended as a player? 3. we have only heard this coming from a test of a possibly premature show-model...I'll wait for the final product to be launched before believing this / this remote was especially useful as it showed rec-levels in the dark...this unit does that by itself so no prob / again what you whine about is focused on playback... pfff I'm slowly getting tired of this but... it is a recorder! 4. wow...I almost got startled...you actually have incorporated the one real flaw: no AA-addon and other limits coming with a Li-Ion batt... but even now ppl here on the forums have pointed out a number of USB-powerpack that can let us record for a loooong time so all in all the RH1 promises to be a great recorder and because it was intended to be one it might be a bit less suited for playback... ahh too bad, but there are a lot of alternatives for DAP's, but almost none for good/affordable recorders... glad Sony chose to cater for the recording amateurs on this one instance!! you like the RH10 better ... great, as you've already got that one you are now $340 richer as you do not need to think about upgrading that's all for me now folks...think I'm off to start a thread on "why so much nagging about what Sony didn't do... why not be glad for five second with what they did do? they listened to us, yay!"
-
RobA... please, for a lot of ppl searching for a recorder it is a great step especially as there really is no alternative... for ppl like you searching for a player only, it might be seem step backwards, but you HAVE got alternatives IMHO I'm glad Sony finally chose a direction with HiMD and sorry if that is not your wish, but IMHO there are enough semi-succesful iPod-video wannabees out there and I for one do not need HiMD to go that way before there was an RH1 but when there was a DH10P really you can't say the masses 'have come to the format' so your remark is simply besides the question... I guess the recording functionality of the RH1 will actually gain more users than the pseudo camera of the DH10P has and any half-true video playback will...there are thr devices for that already!

a battery box (+ using the line-in) will rpevent the mic preamp of the MD distorting on loud sounds (like an indoor rock/metal show)... I love the combo, but others (like A440) swear by a gizmo called an attenuator (often just a headphone volume control cord 'misused') that lowers the signal so the mic-in preamp doesn't clip... but this lowers the frequency range and max sound level the mics themselves can handle a bit I love te batt-box for live rec'ing loud shows and I have only had good results with it (PS I use the greenmachine stuff... very simple and simply great!!)
-
I for one second this question... I would love a fully able SB with all (HiMD) birtates... I only use SS for uploading my own recordings and I hate the double (euh triple) work of ripping then transfering and then deleting from the library
-
the RH710 does have a line in but no mic-in and the 710D doesn't even hase line-in search for a NH700/800/900 or a RH910/10 or wait a bit for the ultimate recorder: the RH1

Is Sony Missing a Beat By Not Offering Hi-MD Options?
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in News
sorry...but this simply isn't true: all 1st gen recorders (not the 'D' downloader model) are able to record real SP in realtime... it's just SS that doesn't do real SP but since you do not want to touch a computer this won't be of any concern for you (the 3rd gen RH1 will be able to do real SP also) -

The 2006-02 SonicStage bugfix/changes wishlist
The Low Volta replied to dex Otaku's topic in Software
hpmoon... I noticed you were back to these forums to enlighten us again... I didn't think you'd be this quick with spewing comments on a post you clearly haven't read well. i had promised myself I wouldn't be tempted by your poss again... but I couldn't resist ...if so, perhaps the poster should have formulated his remark better... why? cause you actually have to read it? I agree it's much easier to just expect ppl to spell it out for us... (<-- irony before someone misinterprets this ) dex only said that the eq won't do anything for SQ when you download a track through SS to MD... he didn't say anything about eq and playback...of course he knows it does make a difference for playback, he himself has very specific eq-settings to suit his ears (they are oversensitive to certain frequencies IIRC) again dex never said this... he said combining Soundforge and SS (which the poster proposed!) would be useless and would also make SS cost $500 as that's the cost of Soundforge... besides that he did say he would welcome (a free and simple) eq function in SS... please read a post before commenting upon it but rest asured hpmoon... your post won't make me stop taking you seriously from now on... I never really did in the first place I guess PS: mods feel free (as always) to remove my post and hpmoon's as this kind of abusive remarks really do not contribute to the forums... but I just couldn't help myself -
the first two are indeed the same discs...but in wrapping adjusted to different regions I have 9 1gb discs and I have 3 for recording and 6 for playback and I guess I won't need more
-
nono, what I suggested isn't about the battery, by removing all power sources you reset the HiMD. It could be your machine produces errors as you had opened it while transfering... by resetting the machine these problems could disappear (of course I can't promise it is this that's causing the trouble, but it is one of the first steps when errors occur)

hpmoon... it could be worthwhile to check the program HiMDRenderer by marcnet (a member of these forums and a great software designer as well) this program allows you to convert all atrac files that are playable by SS (so your entire atrac music library...although I'm not so sure about support for atrac-lossless mind you) to other formats like wav, but also MP3 and OGG (again I'm not sure about WMA and as I'm not near my PC but typing on my mac, I can't check these things for you). I also believe it has a batch-mode so you can convert lots of tracks at once... there is a forum subection on HiMDRenderer and the program can be found in the downloads section. It is free... but if you do find it helpful, please donate some money to marcnet so he can keep up the good work!

the problematic playback of MP3's is a problem on the 2nd gen machines themselves...it couldn't have been 'fixed with SS 3.4'... The RH1 on the other hand does sport 'fixed' and correct MP3-playback
-
leroy...as I live in Belgium I had checked them out and they do make good products... but the price for the same sort of cash you can get Soundman (soundman.de) binaural mics (used by the BBC and the RTBF etc.) but I really didn't want to spend €250 on mics (especially not on a first set) I got some greenmachine made mics and I have trouble imagining those expensive mics providing much better SQ in the circumstances most of us use them (taping live concerts,...) so yeah, if you wanna spend the cash...there are some other options in Europe, but if you want to get started at a reasonable price without dropping SQ much, greenmachine's products definitely deliver more bang for your buck (or hooray for your euro or something )

no, not as far as we know and Sony hasn't upgraded firmware on the HiMDs ever
-
I guess he knew that Ishii I think he meant to ask how big a percentage of the total valu + shipping and handling he should calculate as a surplus cost
-
the price yu will or won't have to pay to customs depends on the value the sender declared as Rich already said: if it is marked as a gift (like my RM-MC40ELK was) you often do not have to pay anything at all...
