  1. the 'Arctic Monkeys' live @ the Botanique 28/02/06 in PCM
  2. just have a look at this post... the numbers can differ from model to model, but this guide should set things straight about the NH1 being eurocapped or not... there's been quite some discussion about it: some say it wouldn't be, but the Euro region code suggests it is... just do the hack and test before and after (record the same music at 28 or 29/30 before and after the hack with all the other variables constant) and let us all know
  3. I still have the 'old' SB from the downloads section so you can compare: -SB version: 2.0.04.18080 -OpenMG version: 4.4.00.11241 probably the installer did just install SB without checking for the version of a previously installed one... the one in the downloads section (which is probably included in the installer as well) should be the newest as it hasn't been updated in a long time but as you can see by 'probably' I can't say anything for sure... just speculating
  4. happy birthday lamewing... closing in on 40 I see... still, I've always heard that life really begins at 40... or was it 'begins heading downhill at 40', I'm not too sure anymore Just make sure you have a lot of fun and only a little hangover
  5. Perhaps they were pointing to bug fixes in the installer (and not in SS3.4)... as I really do not think this is a new release of 3.4 (certainly not by Sony), this is only an offline installer compiled by a very helpful member of these forums: Daijoubu. It is released a bit later just because he had to make sure the installer works perfectly, not because there was a newer version of 3.4 already. It really is the January 'no-connect' version of 3.4 put in an offline installer as far as I know, just as it was with previous offline installers for previous versions... Of course a confirmation of this by Daijoubu or kurisu could settle this. just saw the post Chris G refered to... it is indeed not really clear what's meant, but I still very much doubt that kurisu or daijoubu had the possibility of ironing bugs out of the program itself, only out of the installer...
  6. well, I just retried with my NH900... the sequence does work... just make yourself comfi so you can operate the buttons on the recorder easily as I dunno if the remote buttons work for entering service mode (with the nh900 I do his by using my left index finger to hold 'group' and the right index finger to perform the sequence...but i'm not familiar with the nh800's layout) - make sure 'hold' is ON (on the recorder obviously) - press 'group' and hold the button down - perform the sequence by pressing the following buttons shortly (do not hold them): FF, FF, REW, REW, FF, REW, FF, REW, 'pause', 'pause' (the button pause and not just a small pause ) - release 'group' this did it for me... the screen actually flashes 'firmware' and all icons available at once. Now you can perform the rest of the sequence so you adjust the setting - VOL+ / FF / FF / FF / FF / FF (gets you to "113 xxxSXX (xxx values counting up...)" with XX being your current setting, probably A0) - number of times either VOL+ or VOL- till you get "113 xxxS25(xxx values counting up...)" - PAUSE (to save) - STOP (number of times till you get back at the service menu start-screen) - remove all power sources (to get out of service mode) BUT...perhaps you should just invest a little in more efficient headphones (I use the $25 panasonic RP-JE50 in-ear phones and even with all eq bands turned down one notch, I never need to go above 20/30)
  7. I'm one for sure (thanks to greenmachine)... just listening to my latest 'tape' ... the arctic monkeys ...nice... [in a fast show 'jazz-club' kinda way]
  8. @ poe, just try a full reinstall as described in the Software support pinned thread... and make sure you aren't running any anti-virus/spyware progs at during the installation... clearly a whole bunch of parts didn't install as they were blocked IMHO
  9. it is simply an offline installer for the exact same version of SS3.4 (the version without the connect store) they put SB2.0 in the package as well so there's only one download needed If you have a version of 3.4 installed or you have a good internet connection, there is really no need for the offline installer (unless you'd like to download it as a safety backup just in case Sony stops hosting the online installer someday... but then kurisu will always have the offline installers available as well)
  10. just follow the link in my signature ('uncapped thanks to MDCF')
  11. I only know of the MZ-NH1 which is 1st gen Hi-MD and it's body is magnesium (but could easily be mistaken for aluminum)... but obviously I'm talking about a different model so ignore this post please
  12. - Hi-MD records in PCM = CD-quality (90min on a 1gb disc) - Hi-MD records +/- 8hours in HiSP on a 1gb disc (IMHO as good as old SP) - Hi-MD allows faster-than-realtime digital transfers of your recordings to PC (and with the M-models also to mac) - Hi-MD can use standard MD-discs (like 80min discs) but also more efficiently so longer recordings times (great for HiSP recordings of +/- 2.5hours) all of the above are impossible on normal MD (don't be fooled by the USB connection of NetMD, it's PC->MD only!!) If you do not want to spend too much, search for the NH700/800/900... these are 1st gen Hi-MD's... very good! but without native MP3 playback. These can be found a lot cheaper nowadays.
  13. thanks eriktous and zerodB... that was indeed what I meant, but I guess hpmoon has a hard time believing any of my remarks
  14. If I select WMA9 as the external encoder in EAC it grays out the box in which you need to select the path to the encoder (i.e. it knows where it is) so I dunno what's wrong with your installation of EAC, but it ain't the way it is supposed to work I guess PS: about reliable><accurate: I think it is accurate as EAC will reproduce the bits on the CD more accurately than other rippers... which makes it more reliable sure any lossless codec should be perfectly accurate compared with the wav you could rip from the CD, but with EAC this wav is more accurate compared to the CD itself, hence any lossless codec coupled to an EAC-rip is more accurate than another lossless rip when compared to the original CD
  15. try GPpowerbank... they have a lousy site, but they do sell a 1450mAh gumstick battery (sells in Mediamarkt shops in Europe, but I bet you can find 'em in the US as well)
  16. tleparskas, using any windows skins, blinds,... other appearance altering software?...this can conflict with SS!! If so, just turn it off and see if SS works ok then...
  17. there are heaps of other applications to rip CD's... I prefer to use Exact Audio copy which is the most accurate as far as I know... It rips to lots of formats, including WMA (through the settings -> compression -> external encoder WMA9)
  18. ok thanks qwarkz...you beat me to this! hpmoon... feel free to doubt my comments and to search further... in fact I would advise you to do this. But if you had really researched this into such depts as you claim, you'd have noticed that I'm not "one single" poster here who claims this: I only ty to share what I learned here on MDCF (and which was also proven at that point by other investigative members, so it wasn't just rumours)... it's often because of what we all here just didn't "accept as truth or adequate explanation" from Sony (even the higher hierarchies, which often prove not very trustworthy) that we've built such a big knowledge base here! but before you start taking things personal (and almost go asking ppl not to believe any of my comments anyway ) please try to search and read all post about such a subject and also to evaluate the numerous posters... I actually have mentioned words like "as far as I know", "I believe", "IIRC", etc. when discussing this and also have pointed to other threads (with more knowledgable ppl explaining the issue) or asked ppl to search this here on MDCF (as I know there's proof of it somewhere but I just can't recall the URL right now, sorry...I'm only human and ppl can search for themselves)...so don't go pointing the "you think you hold the truth"-finger at me... No I don't, I was actually reacting to a number of posts that were yelling "whoopee A-lossless is our saviour" without realizing the restrictions and therefore could misinform a lot of ppl... I thought that pointing such thing out is what makes forums usefull as sources of knowledge?!? so please relax a bit... yes these things should be proven (the part about the reconversion when selecting a different bitrate was already, just can't remember where... thanks again qwarkz for the recap+additional research) but that's no need to get angry/irritated... now back to the topic: - yes, if you describe your case like that A-lossless could do just what you need, except for that one reconversion hitch - but WMA-lossless can do all the same things and...better (and believe me, this is hard to say for me as I'm definitely no Micro$oft fanboy ) As I already explained: * WMA-lossless = lossless so lossless playback on PC * WMA plays nice with SS so no probs there (including making Atrac CD's etc) * it converts nicely to ANY bitrate * it is proprietary, but at least it is from Microsoft (which means it has a longer life expectancy than atrac IMHO) ...discs do disintegrate and HD's will fail but still... as I already said numerous times before: I'm only giving advice, not selling dogmas and everyone is free to ignore it and do what they want! Just do not simply blacken my (or anyone else's) name cause your idea might differ. Of course I have made mistakes before and will make 'em in the future, I have always been a good sport and accepted any correction... but at the same time I think I (and a lot of other posters here) have helped ppl by repeating/spreading our (little) knowledge.
  19. if you are only running on the treadmill, why not place the player on some stable surface, secure it and use phones with a long cable or just use speakers... it sure is safer for the unit not to be shocked for longer periods
  20. sorry...there still is no known way to restore trashed recordings... please make sure Sony knows about your troubles, the only way we might ever get such a recovery-tool is if all ppl vent their frustrations about this to Sony if you'd like us to help you figure out what went wrong feel free to describe exactly what you did and what happened... we'll see if we can help you prevent such instances in the future
  21. see this thread for the different region-codes: it says so nope, it's the American version
  22. none of the HiMD recorders come with an internal mic, besides an internal one will pick up the machine's self-noise and will probably be only of low quality. just get any HiMD-recorder you prefer (except for the NH600, NH600D, RH710 and the photo model as they do not have a mic in) and shop around for cheap binaural mics: these are often very good for interviews and music as well and are very small/compact to carry along... check the Soundprofessionals site for the SP-BMC2 mics or search these forums for greenmachine's (he's a MDCF-member) mics, he sells very good/cheap mics worldwide and offers even a discount for MDCF-members
  23. well, for these occasions there's a very interesting application called the "search"-function... I just entered three very obvious words: 'european', 'volume' and 'hack' and voila: it's the first link the search yielded... I could be obnoxious and say: "now you try it" but heck, here you are: the link but please next time try to search before you create a useless thread like this! *quick edit for grammatical errors
  24. please do not post the same question three times hpmoon! nope, as far as I know the reconversion to wav should use the complete lossless part (unless Sony is really ignorant) but still this doesn't make it right! - it is useless (as stated above) to transfer to DAP in any other bitrate than the one chosen unless you want to go through the trouble of reverting to wav, then converting to the bitrate of choice - it is useless as a storage format, as we don't even know how long SS (and HiMD) will remain alive so no way I'm keeping music in a proprietary format unless I have full SQ and totally acessible (i.e. in wav or an open source lossless codec) backups... but then the option to reconvert my A-lossless to wav again becomes pretty much useless again stay with opensource formats or wma (if you really need direct compatibility with SS as microsoft won't be gone any time soon ) for your library... or don't, your choice... but I'll bet we'll be reading a number of posts like "all my music is trapped in A-lossless and I've already sold my CD's on ebay and now Sony abandons SS and I'm screwed" or something
  25. yes, the mac software works for PCM-tracks recorded on a M-model, not with anything else so it's useless unless one simply buys a new HiMD (MZ-M10 or M100)
