  1. uh, no real worries... you can use the letters, just not see them... besides, titling through SS (even when you don't want to upload) is much easier. It's a bug...but not such a big one, just title them by a simple number or if you want to do a bit more trouble, by date/hour and later when uploading give them decent names (although I mostly stick with date/hour) just enjoy your musical class and recording it... Volta
  2. they are almost always kept partially charged, as this is the best for those type of batteries... read all you need @ battery university
  3. I'm afraid I can't help you there..my software knowledge is too limited I guess (I was a Mac-user before and only moved to PC when XP was about, so I really don't know anything about Win98 at all) well, for one thing...they normally don't give any "you need to download WMP9 codec"-errors the MDCF-standalone installer is a betaversion of a project by someone here on these forums as a last option for ppl who can't connect their PC to the net and still need to install SS... if however you can connect to the net, yoou'd be much safer by installing the (equally free) official full install from connect (Sony's music shop) as there are a lot of known (mostly easy to fix ...but not always...) bugs with the standalone installer and almost none with the official one so give it a try: - uninstall completely as described here - choose your SS from this list (just by the language you wan't, because unles you want to buy music on the net from Sony...which I wouldn't advise you to... you won't need Connect, but it doesn't matter if it's in there either) and run the install good luck, Volta
  4. glad to have helped...though I'm not sure what I said tthat made you go to the front door Volta
  5. Why can't you install WMP9? Where does what/who say that WMP7.1 is good enough (seems strange when you need WMP9 codecs)? have you actually tried installing SS3.1 from connect? (and not with the MDCF standalone installer)
  6. you should really check with ppl who are able of running SS on windows98... normally the above procedures are sufficient, and I do not really know anything else to suggest... except update you WinMP to version 9 from this location (it also has a version for Win98)
  7. Well, for most music, I can't really hear any difference either, except for some tracks with very sharp high sounds (like some of the strange jazz-like minimalistic guitar or trumpet solos on Frances the Mute-The Mars Volta) where you can clearly hear artifacts... But I would say, great! Same (percieved quality) at much less required space...isn't that what we'd all want... sometimes I even wish my ears were ruined enough so I'd like Hi-LP (sorry, of course I don't mean this and I apologize to all ppl with hearing damage) have you tried both versions? if so, are there any differences? greetings, Volta
  8. nope you're right yep...sorry, remember to use Hi-MD format next time, greetings, Volta
  9. - Audacity is free and can be downloaded from MDCF-downloads (pictogram at the top right of this page) but will only capture the processed signal from your soundcard (NOT the unprocessed digital signal!) (see this page) - TotalRecorder can be bought for about $11.95 I believe...but it will allow capturing the digital stream before it has passed through the PC-soundcard so you'll have a "bit-by-bit" digital copy, so it could be worth the (small amount of) money (see this site) greetings, Volta
  10. see this post not exactly the same mics, but perhaps his experiences are helpful greetings, Volta
  11. you need the WMP9 codecs, it's not really important where to download them from but it is crucial where you put them on your PC...you have to put them in the exact folder the error while installing SS tells you to. as you would have found if you'd searched the software section a bit: - this one addresses the problem - and this one - and also this one please use the knowledge already present at MDCF, aka search before you ask! greetings, Volta
  12. please read the uploading FAQ's...pre Hi-MD files can only be analoguely rerecorded in realtime...no (digital) uploading possible at all, not even with a Hi-MD-player as clearly stated here greetings, Volta
  13. welcome to MDCF Dodge, he could use a Sony RH10-> that is a Hi-MD and can take a lot more music on 1 disc (1gig discs) so he wouldn't have to change so often...and it has a lit OLED display on the recorder greetings, Volta
  14. you do realize that only 2nd gen Hi-MD can play MP3 files...all other MD's including your Net-MD N707 have to convert these to other formats (LP or SP in your case) as stated in the description of N707 here just read the N707 user manual...it's all in there (page 28) greetings, Volta !please read the user manual before you ask questions!
  15. @ jadeclaw, thanks...that looks interesting...you sure know your Benelux-radiostations! greetings, Volta
  16. just to avoid confusion: the RH10 (unless imported from Japan) also comes with a remote without LCD, but it has a stunningly beautiful OLED display on the recorder
  17. nope... what atrain said also applies when inverted: all audio files you can playback on the MD (which would include analogue recordings with a mic) can't be transferred by drag n drop -> this always requires SonicStage which isn't Mac-compatible (unless through virtual PC) greetings, Volta
  18. I was just listening to a 1gig disc with 8 (4x2) hours of a Belgian radio show taped from the livestream with Audacity... and I thought, I can't be the only one doing this! So come on, share your must hear radio shows (that can be re-listened on/taped from the internet) or podcasts or whatever turns you to taping the net... I'll kick this one off with a plea for "Duyster" This is a 2 hour weekly radio show that is broadcast each Sunday (from 10pm-12pm CET) called "Duyster" (named after the female presenter Ayco Duyster, but 'duister' also means 'dark' in dutch) which can be re-listened and taped @ 96kbps from the Studio Brussel (=the radio station)-site ...select "luister"(= 'listen') on the left this will open an internet radio-application, select programma's (= programs) and scroll down to "Duyster". Each week you can listen to last Sunday's program, till Sunday evening... when it gets broadcast live again and the new show remains in the player till the next week... This show brings you "een programma vol tomeloze weemoed en oorverdovende zoetheid. Rustig maar ongedurig." or "a program full of unbridled melancoly and ear-splitting sweetness. tranquil but restless." Mostly they play dark/melacholic singer songwriter stuff, things like 'Low' or 'Anthony and the Johnsons',... but they frequently go towards soundscapes and instumental postrock like 'mogwai', 'explosions in the sky' and even were brave enough to play an entire track from 'Godspeed you black emperor!' (24min)... I'll just post last Sunday's playlist (I deliberately just took last weeks, haven't searched for that one real good show, just to give you all an impression of an average program) [attachmentid=392] Sometimes interviews with brilliant artists from that scene are featured (they are in English and no irritating translation in between...we Flemish are supposed to understand English and French without dubbing ) There is not that much talking in between, it's really about the music. There's a 10min newscast in the middle and very little advertising (a couple of blocks, which can be very easily removed) so anyone with a touch of melancholy and a drive to know the unknown in music...check this out Greetings, Volta Let those ideas flow... PS: you definitely don't have to write a complete article about it (like I did here)...but a little clarification as to what type(s) of music cn be expected could be useful
  19. sounds interesting, had also tought about it...but in Belgium there aren't that many digital stations yet so I haven't spent the cash for a DAB-set yet (also because of some reports on bad audio quality) right now I'm already taping the internet radio broadcast of the only show I really want to listen again ('Duyster' on Studio Brussel) and that is @ 96kbit/s so unless DAB significantly raises above that and offers some more channels (like the BBC-radio!) I don't think I will spend money on it yet... (we will be getting digital TV here soon, with very expensive but richely featued setup boxes... I'm hoping it will have an optical out or something so I can get Later with Jools or some other good music shows/live reports from summer festivals etc... in a good quality) Volta
  20. just read this post and on it explains why that won't happen... if you have further questions or remarks about real SP or PCM and SS/SB I would suggest posting them in that thread, as this one actually drifts quite off topic this way greetings, Volta
  21. gosh, just checked and you're right...no fake SP in SB, sorry (I have edited my previous post) PS: a bit off topic but not all versions of SB (even some 2.0... ones) offer PCM, I had a SB2.0 version before that didn't, later I downloaded the one offered here on MDCF and that one did. greetings, Volta
  22. this page gives a bit more info and on this pic (borrowed from that site) [attachmentid=391] you can almost read the model number of the remote...'RM-CRX20' or something
  23. just a small addition to the very clear explanations of KJ_Palmer: 1. see this thread, it explains all that is known about the titling error 2. indeed for 'SP' the only possibility is 'fake SP' through SS or SB (this will be played by your car unit, but won't sound as good) 5. you can recharge before the battery is completely empty, but be sure to have a couple of successive full decharge/charge cycli each couple of months to heal the memory effect (read all about battery use here) greetings, Volta
