Welcome to MDCF elvis, I can't really help with obtaining WinNMD, but if you really urgently need to transfer your recordings to PC, just use (free) Audacity (see the MDCF downloads) as it also works very good (but you have to do more manual labour than with WinNMD) Volta

Totally Gapless Burning - The One Sure Way
The Low Volta replied to dex Otaku's topic in Live Recording
read the post again: so import (=oma) backup separate tracks (=wav) combine original oma's, convert combined tracks as wav yes, but it will lead to gaps (like audactiy, see the downloads section) software to write audio-CD's...nero allows to put trackmarks in a long wav, so it will look like two tracks on the CD, but there will be no gap inbetween them (other software could also do this) Volta -
if you want to do it really safe, just let autotrackmark put marks every 10 min so you never lose more than that... further use Dex's way of secure uploading and burning without gaps as it is the safest way I know Volta PS: safest is not to edit anything on the recorder at all, but to use auto-tracks or put trackmarks in manually while recording

glad to hear you like it! well, they could always send me an RH10 as payment and about my marketing-speech... just wait till they bring out a 3rd gen model which combines all the pros from the NH900 and the RH10 (so actually an NH900 with a big fat less easy to scratch OLED )... nothing will stop me then, I will even convert the i-puddle 'en masse' Volta

Looking To Upgrade, Don't Know Where To Begin
The Low Volta replied to lunatic's topic in Live Recording
as scratching happens on the outside, the metal undercoat isn't really relevant for that... but I agree that it probably is a sturdy machine, just shows wear-n-tear quite easily (according to a lot of comments here on MDCF) well, I think Dex is quite careful with his MD's but even he was complaining about just scratching the surface with the first whipe (removing the dust from packaging I believe) so I wouldn't dare to say that it only comes from "rough use"... but then again...just cover the OLED part with screen protector (plastic coating) and let the (unimportant) part get scratched. It is an object meant to be used, so it may as well look like that as I said, if you find the NH900 cheaply and have to be economic, get it (and be assured it still is one of the very best models) if you can't, see if you can afford to import an RH10 from Japan... if not, get the N-Am one and keep an eye out for a decent remote (RM-MC40ELK or even RM-MC38ELK) Volta -
I really like to help ppl, but I sometimes get a little bit ifrustrated when ppl don't read posts properly... no real SP through any software Hi-SP is very good and definitely better than fake SP but it is only useful for Hi-MD and this is the NetMD section of the forums... and Net-MD can't use Hi-SP, so any discussion about that would be in the wrong place greetings, Volta

If you have a software issue, try posting in Software Support/FAQ's, so please read the rules and tips for posting in that subforum and repost a complete description of your problem overthere...

haha...praise!... praise? I paid my NH900 €250 and now you would like me to praise this little splitting machine? no really... I do still think it (the NH900) is one of the two best Hi-MD models around... the other being the RH10 (Japanese imported). I used to think that the NH900 won mainly on basis of line out (which I use quite a lot) but as Dex has measured that the line out-imitation on the RH10 by truning eq off and vol->29/30 and as I still have to go into the menus for switching from headphone->line out (which really is about the same effort as the imitation) and as I do not own any older (non-Hi-MD) stuff so backwards compatibility is quite useless for me... I'm really beginning to appreciate the RH10 (especially the OLED) even though I would only consider a J. imported version and I don't really like the plastic looks (gets scaffed/scratched way too easily) but hey, as you can buy NH900's for £99 you have in your hand IMHO one of the best Hi-MD models around and if you decide to continue with the format...you could always get a second one pretty soon (as you probably have quite some money left with that rediculously low price ) and then have this one as a brilliant little do-all/backup machine... (and if you get an RH10 as a second one, you do not really have to bother with Japanese import, as you already have got an LCD-remote from this one) enjoy your steal , Volta

Looking To Upgrade, Don't Know Where To Begin
The Low Volta replied to lunatic's topic in Live Recording
1st gen= backwards compatible 2nd gen= MP3 compatible a line out is an unmodified strong signal that is used when you connect your MD to other equipment (like the aux on a stereo or car unit,...) it can be imitated by turning the equalizer off and volume to near max (29/30) and the only real drawback is that this requires a bit (not much) more effort than changing to line out in a menu I have been one of the most active defenders of NH900 against the RH10... but since Dex measured the fake line out of the RH10 (as described above) and noted that it is nearly the same as the "real" line out-mode on the NH900 my main reason to dislike the RH10 is gone a simple sum-up: NH900: - has all the bells and whistles I want in a MD-recorder (except for timestamp, but only the NH1 has that and I wouldn't consider to buy that one) - has a useful remote (with backlit LCD) - on-recorder screen is small and sometimes hard to read (not backlit) - feels sturdy (aluminum front) - can record in old formats (but as you have Hi-MD, I really think you do not need this unless you've got a lot of older equipment you still want to use) - can't play MP3's as MP3's RH10: - has almost the same features as the NH900 (except for the line out and pitch control) - has a great looking BIG OLED-screen on the recorder (best feature of the RH10 by far!) - has plastic looks (which you might like, but I do not really) and gets scratched/scaffed easily - does not come with an LCD-remote unless you buy a more expensive Japanese import (which I would do, cause I find the remote vey handy...or just buy an RM-MC40ELK remote to use with the N-Am RH10) - has (slightly crippled) MP3-playback so my tip: unless you find a cheap deal on a NH900, go for the RH10 (the OLED is so beautiful ) but see if you can afford to buy a Japanese import... if not, get a N-Am one and save up for the good remote (RM-MC40ELK) greetings, Volta -
Possible To Charge An Nh1 With Car Power Adapter?
The Low Volta replied to smilingcrow's topic in Minidisc
I do not know if that would be OK, but remember that to get that power actually into the NH1 itself, you need the charging stand (it only charges through that)...so the connector from the adapter should be compatible with the DC-in on the stand! -
Looking To Upgrade, Don't Know Where To Begin
The Low Volta replied to lunatic's topic in Live Recording
that's right, but with a bit of strange Sony customs so read all stickied/pinned threads in the live-recording-section (especially dex's way to write gapless CD's which explains the safest way to upload known to man) before you ever start uploading, as it can save a lot of sorrow your statement could be interpreted in three ways: - you just want to reuse the old discs (not the content) -> no problem, all Hi-MD models can use old discs (reformatted to Hi-MD they can hold a lot more music) - you want to listen to the content -> again no problem, all Hi-MD models will allow this (but none of the models will allow you to upload that content digitally!) - (but I do not think you meant this one) you want to record discs that you can use on the old player -> get a 1st gen Hi-MD (all models with MZ-NHxxx) depends on where you are... sometimes the 1st gen models are sold really cheap (especially in the UK) well, that's exactly why it's difficult for us to advise a model - best IMHO (but the more expensive ones as well): NH900 and (Japanese imported -> otherwise you get a non-LCD remote) RH10 - very good as well: NH700(or 800 ->depends on the region) and RH910 - IMHO don't get: any "D" model (like NH600D) as they are download only (NO recording!) and do not go for the NH1 as it is still quite expensive (not always though) and has too many "NH1-only" proprietary (not easy/cheap to replace) stuff, no AA battery addon, needs the remote for certain features and the charging stand to charge... so it is too much hassle even though it looks good just read up on these models in the equipment browser and the reviews (like Dex's comparison between the RH10 and the NH700 which is very interesting) and older posts in the "find your minidisc"-section as recording is great on all models and the features don't really differ that much, just think by yourself what would make the difference...what will you be using it for most and feel free to post further (more specific ) questions greetings, Volta -
Possible To Charge An Nh1 With Car Power Adapter?
The Low Volta replied to smilingcrow's topic in Minidisc
that car-2-plug adapter looks promising... but about this other question: I suggest you have a look at the minidisc.org aquipment browser, read all about it @ MDCF especially in the "find your minidisc"-section and post further questions about the differences in a (new) thread in that section...as it is quite off topic (even though this was your own thread ) Volta -
Possible To Charge An Nh1 With Car Power Adapter?
The Low Volta replied to smilingcrow's topic in Minidisc
well, as it is possible to find non-sony chargers that can do the correct type of 3V (I mean with the correct connector)...it could also be possible to find a car adapter that can do 6V and has the connector to plug it into the NH1-charging cradle...so perhaps there is a solution, even though it would imply carrying the cradle with you always Volta -
like a lot of you all, I'm spending way too much time here ... my girlfriend really doesn't get what I'm doing here... and "it's not like I don't have anything better to do"...so I thought, what about a: "darn, I'm on MDCF again and I actually really should be doing..."-thread 'cause I was wondering what other ppl skip while posting/reading on MDCF I actually should be reading academic articles about PSB, digital television, tv-pages on the net, citizenship, cultural identity, etc... or transcripting interviews both for my Masters Thesis! very curious of what will turn out... ehm, I'll be off now, to do something useful... Possible To Charge An Nh1 With Car Power Adapter?
The Low Volta replied to smilingcrow's topic in Minidisc
ah yes, forgot about the possibility to use a car-adapter for the DC-in on the charging stand...but then you'd have to take the charging stand with you on trips... Volta -
Possible To Charge An Nh1 With Car Power Adapter?
The Low Volta replied to smilingcrow's topic in Minidisc
I do not own a NH1 so I can't be completely sure...but I actually believe the NH1 doesn't have a regular DC-in, it charges only through the connection with it's charging stand... this connection is proprietary stuff (i.e. only made by Sony, and only for just this one or a few models) and also has a proprietary battery so no external charging either... so, no luck I'm afraid... IMHO return the NH1 and get a NH900 or a (Japanese import) RH10... they do not have any proprietary parts, can do everything the NH1 can (except for the timestamp feature) and offer the AA-addon which gives way more flexibility... As they have regular DC-ins, you could also find car adapters or as they use a gumstick battery, a gumstick charger with car adapter Greetings, Volta -
hmm, and I thought that I got it all clearly explained did you read the earlier posts? I thought that explained all Volta
-
there are indicators and dots that signal -12dB and 0dB (I think) but no backlit LCD means that you can only use these in lit surroundings...
-
or the NH900 which can be found very cheap from time to time and is IMHO still the best model around (AA-addon and no proprietary parts = better than NH1; LCD-remote = better than RH10 unless you buy a Japanes import) Volta

drag-n-drop is reserved for a system where you simply see the player as an explorer window and can put music on or take it off by simply dragging files...there is no software required. In that sense there is definitely no drag-n-drop with the RH10 you do not have to convert MP3's with the RH10 and standard it wouldn't convert them I think so they stay as MP3's on the player but the copyprotection stuff is added and you can't just copy them to another PC if a rack is converted it (the conversion) is either saved in a folder called optimised files (unless you've changed this setting) or it is immediately erased if you chose that setting greetings, Volta

on the one hand, I'm glad you have found a way to make it work... on the other hand, I do feel it's necessary to warn you that all SS versions prior to 2.3 have been known to trash uploads unrepairably from time to time... if you want to use SS<2.3, but you don't want to lose recordings, use the TotalRecorder method (aka "dex's OPTIONS FOR PARANOID USERS") from this thread before you upload...that way you always have a backup... Of course you are free to ignore this warning...but please do not complain afterwards when you've lost an important recording (there were quite some trashed uploads-threads when I arrived here for the first time...so do not think it will never happen) Volta
-
very good post Keith! just a couple of small additions 1.yes 2.yes, most MP3's will play without converting or encoding normally (few exceptions) but it's not drag and drop and they can't be copied to another PC that way 3.yes, althoug not really easy easy...make sure you read and follow the method explained in this thread (even if you do not intend to burn CD's...it's really the safest way of uploadig) Volta

I'm very sorry k. but nope: - 1st gen Hi-MD will record legacy formats (including real SP) to MD-formatted discs only and 1gb discs can't be formatted as MD (only Hi-MD) - 2nd gen won't even record on MD-formatted discs in legacy mode...they only offer Hi-LP, Hi-SP and PCM Volta

I've been wondering about this myself... a number of brick and mortar stores sold them here in Belgium, but they seem to be all out of them... I've only got four, but for daily use I just reformat 80min MDiscs to Hi-MD...that's cheap and easy to find

I was actually converted to (Hi-)MD in almost the same way... I was struggling on a train with all my cabling and media as I was carrying a PCDP (and 32 CD's in wallet) and a audiocasette recorder/walkman (for taping interviews and relistening them) and a bunch of casettes, which were being ruined by all sorts of sharp objects tangling up the ribbon...while the person oposite me smiled quite amused... he then showed me see his MD and let me hear some music (recorded in SP so near CD-quality, especially on a train) and switched discs and let me hear some of his band practice (which sounded so much clearer than my casette recorder could do) so I was quite interested in the format... when I got to a shop, I had a second surprise as the guy working there said: "what MD, forget about that stuff... this is the future: Hi-MD" so I stumbled from taping on audio casette with an internal mic to Hi-MD (Hi-SP and external mic) so you don't even have to ask what this has done for me! I now travel light: I've got a relatively small but very strong digit camera pouch (Lowepro) with my recording gear, extra gumstick batt, AA-addon, lenscleaning fabric for cleaning plugs and six discs and my NH900 in a caselogic MDcase on my belt... thanks to the high density medium I have enough music with me to never get bored and always have a lot of free (or erasable) space to make recordings, expected/planned or not... and I already explained my setup and showed the quality to about five ppl (on the train and at my uni), though I do not know whether they actually turned to MD. I also have converted an ex-MD user who turned i-puddle back to the format by showing my NH900's improvements over the MD-format so keep converting ppl...we won't get credited by Sony but it might help keeping the format alive Volta: preacher in the name of the Hi-'n'mighty-MD
