  1. You'll get 10 opinions from 10 different people, everyone has their favorites. I really love the sound I get recording optical real time to SP on my JA20ES deck and stationary playback at work through the line out of my MZ-R50, feeding my HeadAmp and Grado's, of course. Nearly indistinguishable from the original CD.
  2. OK, sorry for not looking more closely before asking ... I found it in the Audio section.
  3. Hi Folks, Didn't Christopher say that the content from the old Atrac Life Forums would be available here on Sony Insider? I guess I have not looked too extensively, but the old content has not jumped out at me either ...

    RH10 question

Well, I think I have answered my own question. I have been over every menu option at least ten times and I see no ability to switch the headphone output to a high impedance line level out. I also found no mention of this setting in the manual. Can I get confirmation from any one who has found this to be the case? I found one post which suggested cranking up the volume to 28 or 29 of 30, but this still has an impedance of less than 1K Ohms (as low as 32 ohms) and is not a truly viable solution for the best sound. True line level is anywhere from 20K Ohms to 50K Ohms. For maximum power transfer, output impedance must match input impedance as closely as possible.
  5. Excellent, I love all of my full metal body units the most. The NH1 is a great unit too, the first HiMD I bought new for around 350 USD back in the summer of 2004, it's a very solid unit, but I still baby it ... Enjoy your new MD units!
  6. Sweet collection! Excellent pic too, I keep wanting to do something like that myself. That turned out really nice.

    RH10 question

Is there no way to set headphone to line level output via software? TIA
  8. Almost all of my recordings are SP. I'll have to experiment with one of my portables with a Type-S DSP, my N10 or R910. I have always thought that LP2 sounded ok, but not high enough quality to amplify too much. The browser says that the 910 is more akin to the N10.
  9. I have a 707 and a 910. They are both good quality but for me the 910 which has an all metal case, is much more solid feeling. The 707 has a plastic case, no metal at all. The 707 takes a single AA battery, or a rechargeable AA with charging circuitry built in. The 909 uses the gumstick style battery, and I think it has an AA sidecar. The 910 is a bit more slim as the 707 has the battery bulge in the back. Also, if I recall, the 910 has a back lit remote with a one line display, my 707 remote has no display. As far as sound goes, they both really have a great sound. I think they came out around the same time, the 910 probably sold for US 50 - 100 more due to the premium nature of the unit by comparison.
  10. Never mind, I picked up a nice unit on eBay today!
  11. I am looking to pick up a Sony MZ-RH10 for my collection. Desire excellent condition and affordable price! (Don't we all?) PM me if you have one to sell.
  12. I was going to suggest the sharpie trick too, with the matte finish of the RH1, you want to make sure you don't get any shine from the black ink on bare metal ... I bought my RH1 about six weeks ago and I have not even taken it out of the box yet, you are hardly anal ...
  13. I completely agree with cornreaper, the forums have been great and wherever they live they'll be the same. Don't make rash decisions about 'never returning' or whatever, it is the people here that make it what it is, it is a community and it will remain so. I am looking forward to the new look and feel and I hope all of the same folks who have contributed so much for so long will continue ...
  14. I got the impression from looking at the listing that it was pulled or timed out, definitely did not sell on eBay. I was looking in the browser and that unit originally sold for $1100. I am sure you are right, he'll re-list it but I would be surprised to see it sell for more than $500 - $700.
  15. I have an MZ-F40 player. It is a nice playback unit, I mainly bought it for my collection as it is one of the only models which has a built in AM & FM tuner which works without the need for a remote. I had hoped that it would be like my MZ-R50 and be built like a tank, but it has a rather lightweight plastic body. Great SP sound on playback adn the radio is handy too.
  16. I received mine today. I amazes me that it was shipped on Monday in the UK and was on my door step in Ohio midday on Wednesday! Sweet little unit, I really like it. It is fun to get them brand new too. Does anyone know what this unit sold for originally?
  17. Very cool narp, I'll try that later today, I did a little searching for similar XML files and located the path you mention. I did not create the directory however and that may be the key. I'll figure it out and let you know how things work out. Incidentally, I think this is an awesome solution, I am constantly searching the browser for the details of one disk or another, it will be awesome to be able to just highlight it and right click, select search browser and come right up with a link to exact unit I want! Thanks for your efforts!
  18. I am a little late, but paid for my order today, it came to less than 135USD including shipping! Pretty great deal in my opinion. I am looking forward to receiving it! Thanks Mr. Skogens!
  19. Any ideas where this file might go on an OSX machine?
  20. Same here, and mine is also the Euro version with the optical/analog input. That seems a little high for the 'D' version, but you never know what can happen in the bidding frenzy.
  21. You can count me in too. skogens, I'll get my information to you this weekend. I always thought the B10 was a cool unit, looking forward to it ...
  22. I picked up a new in box DR80 on eBay about three months ago for $140US including shipping. That price seems high to me. As zahne said, if you do not use HiMD, a good quality NetMD/MDLP unit should suit you well, especially if you have no need to upload recordings.

    MZ-N1 Cradle

What you need to do is find an eBay auction for an N1 with a bad record block, these are quite common, but you need to check regularily. Buy it for parts and make sure it has the dock with it. You can usually get the bad units quite cheap (< $25US). You may end up with and extra working remote and power supply. The N1 is an awesome unit, unfortunately, they used a non standard form of connectivity for the USB which limits it's use without the dock, as you have found out. I bough an N1 new in mid 2002, it was my first MD and I used it until the head died, I loved it. Sadly, I gave it away a few years ago for parts. I was able to recently pick one up in an eBay auction for about $100US and it was brand new in the box! It looks like the owner opened it to check it out and then repackaged it and put it in the closet. It is my absolute favorite MDLP/NetMD recorder, I love it ...
  24. mantis48, We have a Sony CD deck in my wife's car and the USB port on the front can be used to play MP3 files stored on a thumb drive. I may have also gotten it to work with one of my Sony HD units.
  25. This is a great thread to resurrect. I have had the bug since around May 2002 when I bought my first portable recorder the ever so fine MZ-N1. I used it until the record head died and was fortunate enough to find a replacement in pristine condition about 2 months ago for 25% what I paid for the original! I have been buying them up on eBay lately, I target the full metal bodied models, SP/MDLP/HiMD. I love them all. My wife thinks I am nuts! I have also been really in to recording optical SP onto my MZ-N1 and MZ-N10 from my Sony ES9000 CD/SACD/DVD player. Depending on the source, the 292Kbps SP results can be fantastic! I have around a dozen units now and may stop buying soon, prices are going through the roof on eBay for some of the better units.
