  1. I saw that a couple of weeks ago, crazy! I think it works out to about three bucks a disc before shipping. Did you see his note that it weighs some outrageous amount, like 200 pounds or something? The only person to buy something like this would have to own a store and could sell them off. I don't really see your average MD collector shelling out nearly four grand for a huge pile of discs like that.
  2. With shipping, it's about sixs bucks per disc. Pretty good deal.
  3. That's one of my favorite units, sounds great and takes great pictures too! Congrats!
  4. I think you're right. Looking at the pictures in the browser, the 810 looks like it has a plastic back. I just like the feel and weight of the "all metal" units, the N1, the N10, the N910, etc. Although, I have to say I have gotten a ton of use from my NH900, NH710 and NH600 , all units with a lot of plastic and metal parts. )
  5. I think that seller has had a few auctions with groups of 10 HiMD discs lately. I'll be interested to see what they sell for, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for 7 - 8 US dollars per disc ... Which makes 3 new disks for 22 shipped a decent deal, if you are in the market for HiMD 1GB blanks ...
  6. I believe the NF810 is Type S as well, so you would have the advantage of better MDLP playback on that unit. Another thought, while the NH700 is a nice looking unit, it is plastic with a formed thin aluminum front plate, while the NF810 is a solid metal bodied unit (like my N910, both of the same ilk), much more sturdy in my opinion ... Just another opinion, as Stephen mentioned, the 810 units seem to show up on eBay and much better prices more frequently.
  7. Agreed, I have a ton of ripped music, but once I got my 20ES I began recording SP in real-time. I have re-recorded about 1/5th of my collection, my favorites and listening via line out analog amp to my headphone amp sounds fantastic. That being said, I can still enjoy HiSP trans-coded MP3s or HiSP ripped via SonicStage, it just does not have the same sound as a real-time recording. At least that is the case for my 46 year old ears!
  8. I think the 810 uses a standard mini USB connection on the MD side of things. You can pick one up for a couple of dollars. I have about 30 of them in various drawers around the house!
  9. I agree with the wizard, you have probably recorded an MDLP mode bit rate using SonicStage and your Deck is only capable of SP mode. SP mode is 80 minutes per disk at 292KBps and has much better sound than LP2 (132KBps) or LP4 (64KBps) MDLP modes. They are all ATRAC, SP is the original, the MDLP modes are newer and will not play on an older device. There are newer, more capable decks which will play and record MDLP, they are almost always used and readily available on eBay for a price.
  10. It depends on the MD unit, some use the standard mini USB connector on the MD side, others use a special proprietary connector. What model MD are you referring to? It is likely that someone will know what cable is required. Sometimes that sort of information is listed in the MD browser: MiniDisc Equipment Browser
  11. I have cool little Creative Labs external Sound Blaster device which provides far superior sound via USB connection to the laptop. The model I have has optical line in/out as well as analog. To XP it looks like any other sound card. I don't think they are manufactured any longer, but there are some on eBay: Creative Labs External SB - USB I am sure there are other manufacturers as well.
  12. In addition to having the Ultimate 64 bit version of Windows 7, you need to have a minimum of 3GB RAM in the machine and a CPU capable of supporting true hardware based virtualization. I had to enable this capability in the BIOS of my Dell Latitude with a T7600 Core 2 Duo chip. If you are running the 64 bit version of Windows 7, you should be fine regarding the virtualization support. The XP mode is not a 32 bit subsystem, it is a new 64 bit version of Windows Virtual PC in which you install a full version of Windows 32 bit XP SP3. The entire setup is download-able from Microsoft with directions here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/get-started.aspx You'll have to verify your installation of Windows 7 as genuine. I have performed the operation and it works great. Microsoft has done a great job of making this one of the fastest VMs I have used, the response time is very fast and this specific version with the XP download are made just for working with older legacy apps inside of Windows 7. I do not know if it is possible to create installations of other VMs for other OSes. I use VMWare server on other machines and VMWare Fusion on a MacBook Pro and the new version of Virtual PC for Windows 7 is easily as fast and possibly more responsive than those others. As Stephen mentions, there is supposed to be some support for MiniDisc and Windows 7 released sometime in he near future, what this support is, I can't say. Having the ability to run XP in Windows 7 is nice but it is an aweful big waste of space. Good thing I just installed a Seagate Momentus 500GB drive!
  13. You need to have the Pro or Ultimate version of Windows 7 with the XP mode VM components installed. You then install SonicStage in the XP VM, you'll have full access to NetMD devices at that point.
  14. I have and it has ticked me off at myself too. I also do the same thing with the battery in my DVD camcorder and have missed the kids shows, talk about disappointing ...
  15. I am keeping my brand new unused MZ-B10 in it's box until my 5 year old son is 8 or ten. It has a built in mic, speaker, cassette recorder 'like' controls and runs on AA batteries. I know he'll have a great time with it. :-)
  16. That's a great guide PhilippeC, I remember checking it out when you posted it last. This time I bookmarked it! Thanks for sharing.

    Atrac CD

It is my understanding, and others may confirm, that once you burn ATRAC CDs, there is now way to get the files back off of the CDs in a usable form. They will only play in an ATRAC CD player. You would need to play the music and record in real time. You must not have the original albums still in SS?
  18. That's a really great point. It is sad but true. :-/
  19. Agreed Stephen, I bought my black RH1 at pauseplaystop and they were great. I think they may only have the M200 left however.

    score!

That's a great price for a cool player. I scored on a brand new in sealed blister pack MZ-RH910 for $102.50 last week. Like you, I tend to wait to try to score the best deals possible and snatch them when no one is looking!
  21. 56 ohm headphones would not be considered high impedance. You should have not problems driving them at all. I have a pair of Grado 325i phones which are around 300 ohms which is not even considered high impedance. Over 1000 ohms would be the lower end of what might be considered high impedance. Most of Sony's MD units are designed to drive a load between 16 and 300 ohms with no issues.
  22. The 707 is a great unit. I have one I bought new in 2002 and it still works perfectly. It should be a perfect unit to get you in to the format. You can pick up a cable for no more than $10 on eBay, Radio Shack or Best Buy. The plug that goes in to the MD is not a standard TOS-Link style plug however so make sure you get one with the 6mm or 1/8" on one end. Check out minidisc.org for a 707 hack which allows you to add some great firmware functionality by tweaking a couple of settings in the units service mode. Have fun with it!
  23. Just found this on eBay: Blue 3D Pretty steep price, if it's the original battery, it may not hold a charge for long. Another eBayer is selling the lip4 batteries for about 5 bucks a piece, they are knock-offs but I picked up a few of them a while back and they work fine. Also found this: Silver 3D Good luck!
  24. Check with forum user "TheBlueRaja" he had multiple EH1 units for sale recently. Silver and black, the black units he listed for slightly higher prices. His posting is here: TBR MD Sale
  25. The 6v adapter for just about any unit will work with just about any other unit. I use all of my 6v adapters pretty much interchangeably. The 3v adapters obviously have a larger connector so you can't accidentally use the 6v in a 3v device. Some of them may vary in current capability which will only affect the speed to obtain a full charge.
