I would love a good analysis of this as well. I am recalling MDietrich has posted some very detailed analyses of topics very closely related to this. Fascinating stuff, I'll try to find her posts to again read and enjoy, she's pro on these topics and a great writer as well! Sony_Fan, with all due respect, I have to disagree with your statement, maybe I just want to believe my 20ES makes better SP recordings than my MXD-D400 or my JB940 but I really think my ears tell me it is for real! :-P Like punkrockaddict, I have taken a number of these units apart over the years and the ES20 is made like a Sherman Tank compared to my MXD-D400 or even my JB940. The power supply has multiple circuit boards for different voltages and has huge caps to filter and smooth the supply output, all digital and analog signals are isolated on separate circuit boards. There are many clear differences in the design and construction all for the purpose of producing a better recording and playback experience. Just another MD lover's opinion! :-)

You hit the jackpot on that one! I do as well Philippe and I love them all! Agreed Danny, a very sweet and rare unit!

I think it is a pretty rare unit. I don't even see it in the browser. I had to find it on Sergio's site. I have been trying to get one of those for a few years, it looks like an awesome unit! I think it's from the same era as the NH1, very high build quality.

MZ-E10 for Sale. Will Post Overseas from Zurich CH.
Azureal replied to Benoit1502's topic in Classifieds
So here is the deal Ben. You happen to have come to, quite possibly the one place in the world, where there are a bunch of folks who know and love the MZ-E10. I own one and it is a thing of beauty. Many other folks in our community likely share my excitement about the cool factor of this unit. The problem is that most everyone here also knows the truth about this great unit and that is the fact that after 5 - 7 years the internal lithium ion battery dies and there is not much to do with the unit except look at it. The battery in mine lasts about 10 minutes on a full charge, if I am lucky. One of our regular users from Korea is a huge fan of this model and owns over twenty of them. He and a couple of other folks have figured out a way to replace the internal battery with a modified LIP4-MW which is still available in the marketplace. The dis-assembly and reassembly of this unit would likely be described as a challenge, at best ... -
I just performed a test transfer of a WAV file from my library to an MD80 with a Hi-MD format. For a brief period before the transfer there was a status of "converting" then the transfer began right away. I tried this several times to observe the behavior and it was the same each time. I watched the Task Manager Performance tab and saw no CPU being utilized during this brief period. I suspect that Sonic Stage is stripping off the WAV container from the file and "converting" to raw PCM. The file properties of the track on the PC drive are WAV(PCM) 1411 and on the MD the properties are CODEC PCM 1411. Interestingly, both files show the exact same duration (6:02) but the PCM file on the MD is slightly larger than the original WAV on the PC, 64,176,128 bytes on MD versus 63,922,700 bytes on the PC.

Hey gang, This looks like a nice unit that could go for a good price. Auction ends just after noon PST today 04/05/2014: SONY MDS-JA20ES MiniDisc Deck Not my sale, but I am watching it. The seller mentions a slight issue with the tray getting hung up on eject, probably some simple mechanical issue.

I also have couple of working N1 units I would be happy to sell for cheap. It was my first smallish NetMD (first NetMD made if I recall) and I always love the form factor of the unit. I would let a working unit go for 30 USD plus you pay shipping costs.

Thanks Philippe! I am impressed with all of your global connections!!

Hi PhilippeC, Is there one KMS-260B left for me? Please reserve if so. My 940 is having issues, may not be this part but having the spare cannot hurt! :-)

Lip-4wm convert to Lip-3wm for mz-n10 or e10
Azureal replied to qualia017's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
That's pretty impressive qualia017! I swapped out the LIP-3MW in an N10 a few years back and it was a huge pain. I can't imagine opening the e10 and getting it back together again! -
MZ-M10 "stuck" on System File Writing
Azureal replied to darktrain's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
So, I have an NH900 which has this same problem, put a disk in and it will just start recording or setting track marks or whatever, I ruined a few disks in it and them put it on the shelf. The think is in pristine condition and I would love to put it back into service. ANy thoughts on how to assist me with that Stephen? -

Will ATRAC 4.3 work with Windows 64 bit?
Azureal replied to Tom B's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Hey Tom B. Try these for starters: -
Are you using a 1GB HiMD disk or a standard 60/74/80 minute MD with a HiMD format? I am not absolutely certain but I do recall that there is a difference in the way a HiMD unit records and reads data from the disk based upon the medium used for the recording. You could try it the other way to see if you experience the same issue, i.e. if on HiMD 1GB disc now, record HMD onto a an 80 minute disk and see if you have the same problem or vice versa. Can you also record some SP or LP2 onto an 80 minute disc and try the playback of that as well? I think will be helpful predetermining your issue. I'll let sfbp or others weigh in, diagnosing issues like this.is not one of my areas of expertise regarding MD.

That sounds like a great plan. Also, you mentioned having a friend or acquaintance who may have a unit you could purchase. I would personally always feel more comfortable buying something of such high value from a trusted and known source. :-)

Hey PaulDenton, Welcome to the forums and don't worry about hurting anyone's feeling by posting on interesting and fun MD or other topics here. We have a really great community of devoted MD lovers here and it's awesome members to see new folks join the ranks regularly!! To answer you question, I know this topic came up in the last couple of months. Another member asked for a list of all prerecorded MDs ever manufactured, I think that some partially complete list was identified. Let me try to do a search and see if I can find it for you.

I have the same issue with a group of 5 LIP4 batteries I bought as spares for RH10, DH10P and NH1, I had them in a drawer for so long and did not test them, a few have worked but not very well, they are clearly knock-offs not licensed or manufactured by Sony. It's a shame really, it's the major design flaw of each of these units as well as a few others which rely solely on that specific battery for portable power.
-
Agreed, I have picked up another 80 Sony Neige and Victor Clear blanks in the past month. It's a sickness for me really, I need to stop buying them! But the prices on Amazon are at least 25 - 50% lower than eBay if you can settle for these two varieties which I have always liked.

Will ATRAC 4.3 work with Windows 64 bit?
Azureal replied to Tom B's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Hi Tom B, I assume you mean to ask will SonicStage 4.3 work in Windows 7, 8 ans 8.1 environments. The answer is yes and many folks are doing this including myself. There are several threads in these forums which detail the steps to get things working, Windows 8 versions require one or two additional steps to get around the installation of an unsigned driver. You'll definitely need to download two packages from the Forum downloads section, the SonicStage 4.3 Ultimate version and the 64 bit Windows drivers. Do a search on the forums for "Windows 64" and you locate the threads which contain the instructions for performing the setup. It is not difficult at all. We really need to create a couple of documents to place in the downloads section to explicitly define the process for each OS which users can be pointed to for directions. -
NH900 is a great unit so is the RH710, I have both on ice for the eventual MD "end of days". :-( I also like the NH600, I have the non-"D" version which has an optical input, might be a mic input as well plus a 3v connection but most importantly runs on a single AA battery. I have always thought the G750 looked like a great unit, makes me want to go shopping on eBay ... I think if you use SP or MDLP only you have to consider many of the early Sony and Sharp units as options. The HiMD units tend to really sell for a premium on eBay and even though I have never personally had any issues with one, some say they can be more "finicky".

Here is a search for US only units sold over the past couple of months on eBay.com in US dollars : MZ-RH1 Units Sold It seems crazy, but the selling price of the market driven auctions can go really high. Some sellers list "But it Now" prices and I consistently see those return after their 30 day listing again and again. Some sellers are fixated on getting the price they command versus letting the market determine the value. Most of the ones sold in this query were used in good condition and included most or all of the original accessories as well as the original box. This unit is a hot item and is highly desirable, supply is limited hence the crazy prices (obviously!). I have two NIB units never used one RH1 and one M200 both black. I am sitting on them until I can get a grand a piece for them! ;-) I have a Silver Japanese model I use pretty regularly and, believe it or not, mainly as a player ... (that comment is sure make Stephen cringe!)

Well, it certainly sounds like you have the setup to make a good comparison, I know my 20ES makes the best SP recordings I am personally able to create. I have read good things about that particular Denon deck as well. Like punkrockaddict, I'll have to get out a nice SP disk and make a comparison as well, unfortunately, also like punkrockaddict, my ears are almost 50 years old, I am certain my tinnitus could be measure in dB it is so loud! The N1 was one of my first Type-R machines which I bought in maybe 2001 or 2002, it was also my first MDLP and NetMD unit, at the time I was doing a lot of bicycling and if I recall, I used it to rip and playback a lot of LP2. At the time I had no deck to make good quality SP recordings. Just for fun, I'll get these out tonight and do some listening.

I had completely forgotten about that conversation, I still want one of those!
