Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review
Ascariss replied to Christopher's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Well the A1000s came in yesterday, but didn't have time to check them out, no A3000s in yet though, hopefully tomorrow (friday) or monday. -
atrac3 at 132 since that is the best I can use for my MD to maximize space and sound quality. will be using 192 and above in mp3 format for my hdd players though.
-
I would tend to agree, SS3.0 and above have been a huge step forward for sony, I've never been able to crash any above version 3.0 and the program is a breeze to use. It's no itunes sure, but then it isn't all that difficult to learn. (the Connect player is another story)
-
All my normal MDs for my sony are bought in europe sadly, except the first 5 pack I bougth in A&B sound, same place i got my recorder as well. Never knew london drugs carried any discs, only though A&B sound had them. Anyways, like I mentioned the bulk of my discs were bougth in europe at cheap dirt prices compared to what I would have paid for them here. Futuershop, I seriously hate that store, but shop there anyways lol. Best buy has become a nice alternative, even had a HD1 player there, but the folks at futureshop are really moronic. Asked the sales rep when the new sony hdd players are expected, he bagan telling me why I wanted a sony and began telling me how atrac sucks, and etc. I explained to him they play mp3s, have better than average battery life and sound amazing. He said why get a sony, just grab an ipod, they are over there. I was about to go mental on the guy but decided to let the moron be. he just technically lost a sale there, since the new hdd units are not cheap. I asked the same question at bestbuy, guy told me to check back in 3 weeks, they should have them in. classic, best buy takes ownership of futureshop, and is much better place to shop lol.

The $4 exam package is what the bio sci undergrad society sells in preperation for a genetics midterm.
-
Actually I do, but I am moving away from MD into the HDD scene with the new A3000 unit from Sony. Staying in the family though.
-
Genetics exam package $4. spent $430 (with taxes) on a new NW-A3000 HDD player, pre-ordered, should be in any day now. can't wait. (replacement for my MZ-N10)

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/11/16/apple_ipod_japan/ If true, it was inevitable sadly. Wonder if MD sales will take a larger hit now in Japan.

Sony's Digital Rights Mania finally lands them in court
Ascariss replied to Christopher's topic in News
Although old: http://www.xcp-aurora.com/press_article.aspx?art=jun_05_art2 A UK firm called First4Internet, which created the technology, said the primary goal is not to prevent copies of the songs from ending up on illicit, peer-to-peer file-trading networks, which the industry blames for million of dollars in lost sales. Instead, it aims to dissuade people from burning unlimited CD copies in what is sometimes called "schoolyard piracy." "This technology is a speed bump. It's trying to dissuade the average consumer from making as many copies as they like," said First4Internet Chief Executive Mathew Gilliat-Smith. "You're not going to stop tracks getting on P2P sites," he added. "It's designed to stop casual piracy ... It's not saying you'll stop people from doing it, but it makes people stop and think." Schoolyard piracy? I may have finished highschool back in 2001, but as far as I know, not many people were swapping CDs between friends back then, and sadly, I don't see it anymore at Uni either. So I am puzzled to why sony even has this copy barrier when they provde a back door to it as well. 2 outcomes, sony wins or loses. If they win, the case could serve as a precident for future cases if such porblems arise again. If they lose, well then, it will hurt sony financially, which it already has, they are recalling all the cds, stopping production and replacing the protected cds with normal ones for users. as for the lawsuit aspect, I am not sure if the people bringing the case against sony will seek damages, I assume they will, but I haven't heard any figures, granted i didn't read the latest info. We'll see how this all ends eventualy. -
Any timetable for atraclife forums to be back online?

After reading many replies to why some people are not going to get the new A series from sony. It has come to my attention that one possible factor is capacity. So I ask, how much do you really need? and will you fill it up on the first day? I personally might be able to get up to 10 gigs once I get mine, but will I fill it up? I doubt it. Unless I use it for data storage as well.

Interesting points, we had no HD3 nor HD5 officially in canada, the HD1 was apparently sold here, not sure if via sony, but I would imagine it would be. I only saw one HD1 here just recently and oddly enough never saw any ads for it, not even at the sony store, or any electronics retailer here. Sony canada is now offering a $20 rebate for a tax that was added onto the HD1, and $5 off the smaller flash players. Anyone know how sales of the HD5 have been doing in the US? Unless sony isn't keen to release such info to the public. Beethovenian, is there any price difference between the HD5 and the new A series? what about price A series vs price of competitors in Aus?
-
Hmm, wonder why the US is being left behind for a launch for these players. With no annoucement from sony yet about availability, it could mean an intro post new year? Unless Sony is stalling for the WMA support for the US market and release them early to mid december.
-
Let me expand what is on teh sony site: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl...=EN&news_id=101 Posted: 11/07/2005 There is no firmware update is currently posted for the NW-A608. No update at all. none either for the A1000/A3000. Like finalcoolman mentioned, once WMA support comes out, it will be offered as a firmware update in december.

Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review

So basically anti-scratch? -
You traitor, you should be shot. j/k Congrats on the purchase, but sadly the picture you took makes it look rather cheap in the comparison to the sony you also photographed. 1 gig is nice, but not enough for me, so flash based players fall off the screen for me right off the bat. Props for the features like colour OLED, playback of the adiditional files, voice recording, FM recording (who will use that though?) and line in. I would like to get your opinion on the quality of the line in. Games and alarm are 2 things I wouldn't need in a player. lol. The overall bulk of features does make it a lucrative buy, but it depends what you're after in a player in the end. All in all, looks and build quality would be the factors that would lead to my decision. And since it looks like a cell phone and the plastic kind of looks cheap in your photo, press pictures make it look not bad though. huge ass picture: http://www.samsung.com/at/presscenter/imag...mp3/YP_T8_B.JPG Why do people insist a player have wma support? Does napster have wma files offered in its service? I only use 192 or above mp3s and really haven't used anything else since winamp is my main means of listening to music.

Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review
Ascariss replied to Christopher's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Just pre-ordered mine, well fully paid, and once it comes in, all I do is pick it up. I choose the silver model, sales rep told me he saw and used them at a conference back in august and says they are amazing, granted he is bias but he did mention the user interface is a nice touch and so easy to use. they just started pre-orders yesterday, so he told me I will be the first in 5 people to get one in vancouver. Crossing my fingers it's tomorrow. also forgot to mention, there is supposed to be a special A3000 colour to be sold exclusive to the sony store, blue, the same one as the A1000 I believe. -
australian dollars.

NW-A3000 + Connect Player Impressions

Well then there is seriously something wrong with that person's unit, or he is indeed not using usb2.0. -
NW-A3000 + Connect Player Impressions
Ascariss replied to SimonGrafftey's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
that is why i said it is usb 2.0 so he should have a fast transfer rate, but then I am assuming then the person only has usb 1.0 or 1.1 so slower transfer rate. anyone know how fast it takes on averge 100megs to be transfered to an hd5 or hd3? -
Exclusive ATRACLife NW-A3000 + NW-A1000 Review
Ascariss replied to Christopher's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
although essentially the same, the hd5 is smaller in size, has a metal case instead of plastic and weighs less. you can use ss3.2 and 3.3 for the new players no problem, some fuctions will not work though. price wise, i am sure teh hd5 will be cheaper if the a3000 is released where you are located. battery life should be above average for both, and storege wise, each is roguhly 18 gigs since that is the actual capacity. you can make folders if that is what you mean by selecting artists, but as far as I know the a3000 has better menus and selection. supposedly the a1000/3000 are supposed to come preloaded with some songs so you can test out the sound quality from the get go. if possible try out both, if you can't get your hands on one unit, then you will have to make a personal choice of which looks better and what you want in a player, small weight and silver case, or newer model but bigger. -
NW-A3000 + Connect Player Impressions
Ascariss replied to SimonGrafftey's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Not sure if these are posted, found them today on amazon.co.uk Hmm no surprise about the connect player comments, but 8min for an entire albium? ripped at what quality and how many songs? Seriously if the 8min is for real, I am kind of worried now, since I am planning on transferring roughly around 6 gigs when I get mine. Anyone else experience this long transfer time? I mean, it is USB 2.0. -
Interesting, hmm there seems to be no date of arrival, sony canada has a date usually beside products that can be pre-ordered, oddly enough it is mid november and there is no info on the players on sonystyle.ca, but they go on sale either tomorrow or by the end of the week. Are you planning on buyng one of the new units?
-
Was going by the sony store today on the main route on my way home, and there seemed to be a large ad for the new NW-A60x units, again, I only caught it briefly, so I will look into it tomorrow more carefully. Tomorrow is mid november, so perhaps the new units will be in the stores.
