Woke up this morning to find an update was available for CP. pressed ok, and it updated no problems. apparently the scrolling issue has been solved, I have 1 album selection and it isn't jumping back anymore. Here is my version: 1.0.02.11150 edit player is now: 1.0.02.11170

Indeed, that is what I am wondering myself for the firmware update. So far nothing on sony's site regarding this, so I would assume mid to late dec for the update. Also regarding CP, perhaps it will be version 1.2 or 1.5? not v3. whatever be the case, it better arrive soon.

I have no need for flash, 2 gigs is not enough for me either, I need at least 5 gigs for my mp3s. perhaps if I get some extra cash after the holidays I will pick one up, but for now the A1000 is fine and my A3000 which is coming in soon, east coast just got their shipment, meaning west coast is next, is also fine, and at 20 gigs, its plenty for my collection.

I stated it in my post, 249.99 canadian plus taxes.

Saw saw 2 models at the sony store here, odd didn't notice them at first, since they weren't really advertised that much. 2 colours, the silver and the blue, well violet but it looks like a deep blue at the store, and when i compared it to the violet A1000 at the store, the 608 had a different colour than the violet on the A1000. here is the colour: the far right one. I seriously doubt canada will get the Emerald Blue and Gold limited edition ones. price is 249.99 Can, plus taxes. I guess good for those people who want to pick them up via canada instead of japan for the radio function and of course perhaps a warrenty of sorts, since you can send it the person who bought it for you here to get it fixed lol.

Hmm I've seen 2, the silver one, which looks like the older models, and the violet, which appears more like a deep blue in colour.

Huh, I must have been doing something wrong earlier, since now it works. But it says the files are atrac in nature, when I transferred them all over as mp3s. Perhaps CP transferred them over as atrac without telling me, but I choose only convert to atrac if the file is not supported and all info via the player for the files states they are mp3. hmm. -
Ok, connected, the fav 100 and play history just updated, thanks for the info on that nw_lover. oddly sony doesn't mention you have to do this, lol. should go into the faq when we make one.

NW-A3000 + Connect (now with pics) (part 2 at end)
Ascariss replied to Tetsugaku-San's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Interesting, could it be different in europe? Maybe it is only the smaller A1000 that are white? I am looking at my A1000 now and the colour of the letters and screen is white. Then my guess is that the larger A3000 units have the blueish colour? Not sure, I will look into this as well once my A3000 arrives. -
If you will be treating them badly as you say, I don't recommend the EX71s then. I am not sure on the 81s like I said, but they are more expensive and I am not aware if they are made from better quality materials sadly.
-
I believe Tetsugaku-San has gotten it working, he mentioned it here someplace. I for one haven't tried all my mp3s on it, but haven't gotten it working yet. Perhaps the player also needs year for it to link artists? I am not sure though. I am planning on emailing sony canada regarding this.

Willkommen angschte. I should be able to answer your quesions, since the A1000 has the same aspects, just smaller drive, less battery life and smaller in size. The colour of the butons can't be changed as far as I know, they are whitish in colour and when you press the artist link they turn to an orange colour, and then fade back to white. The OLED colour seems to be connected to the colour of the unit I believe, where the silver model has all white text, menus and etc, the purple one has violet coloured, green for the greenish unit and so on. -
Not sure on the durability of the 81s, but I have the 71s and so far no problems with the cord, I've had them for a month now almost and used them daily to school. The cord is a bit flimsy, but if you treat them well, they should be fine. I don't wrap them around my mp3 player not remote since it won't work as easily with LP and longer cord 'phones. This is why I bought them at a sony store, if they bust, I can return them much faster than resending them back to a e-retailer.

I have the same problem sadly, and I used CP to transfer all my files. I am planning on contacting sony regarding this on my A1000. My favourite shuffle doesn't store the info, nor does the play history. The artist link hasn't work for me as well, but I am wondering if I need to add as well the date to my songs in order for it to work?

The jumping back to the previously highlighted item is a real pain, and should be fixed stat, but I have found a way around it, while selecting files, using the mouse scroll wheel, you can keep going down, selecting more files and it won't jump back to the first files. Once the files transfer, it will jump back to the first highlighted files though.

Hmm never used a discman with atrac, but in SS3.2 when I used with my MD, if I didn't convert the MP3 to atrac, it would automatically convert it when I went to transfer the file to the MD. The program is set to auto convert it to LP2 always, since that is the best compromise with normal MDs. You can also set it to SP (takes a while to transfer, way too long) or LP4, which is faster than LP2, but sounds below average if you ask me. EssentialMix.mp3, lol you a radio 1 fan?

NW-A1000 and NW-A3000: Initial Impressions
Ascariss replied to Ascariss's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Ya, there is a volume limiter on european models, but there is a hack to get around it like with earlier HDD models. I would suggest then to get a cradle for the unit if you are planning on hooking it up to a HIFI system, since it has lineout in that as well I believe. But if you don't want to get the cradle, you can just attach it to AC adapter and choose lineout with the player and hook it up, no worries with battery life then. -
I had the same problem, go edit the properties of the songs in CP and you will see differences between them. ie there is artist, and also album artist, I believe CP orders it by Album artist to group files. I had to reorgnanize around 2000 mp3s after I realized my errors, so now, I have no problems when I import files into the program.

Yes, you can shut off the player via a menu option called Shut Down, which will turn off the player. -

I don't have the volume limiter on, since my unit is not EU. I don't have all CBR 192 on my player so I can't do that test really. But I would guess that with 192 cbr, all +3 EQ, volume 35, you won't get a very good battery life. perhaps 6-8 hours at most. who listens to their player at 35? I don't think you want EQ +3 for all, might make some songs sound bad. -

Here is the final battery test I did with my A1000, continuous playback: Ok here is the low down on the battery test. At first 13 hours may not sound much, but then again I am pleased with it. Here is what was tested. -volume at level 13, AVLS limits the player to this, so I decided to keep it at this level, but didn't turn on AVLS, I also listen to this volume on a regular basis -majority of songs re 192 CBR mp3, with many higher as well, up to 320 CBR and various at 200-270 VBR. -fully charged battery -EQ on, settings are as follows (Bass to Treble): +3 +2 +1 +1 +2 +3 -shuffle all songs chosen, a total of 422 songs -only pressed a button everytime I wanted to check the battery, so a grand total of 13 times. Test start at 12:30 PST - full battery @ 14:26 still full battery @ 16:00 3/4 battery @ 17:30 1/2 battery @ 18:30 1/2 battery @ 19:30 1/2-1/4 battery @ 20:00 1/4 battery @ 21:00 1/4 battery @ 22:00 1/4 battery @ 23:00 1/4 battery @ 00:00 1/4 battery (flashing) @ 01:00 1/4 battery (flashing) @ 01:30 Low Bat displayed. So with volume 13, shuffle all, and EQ on, 13 hours is quite good in my opinion for continuous play considering sony claims up to 17 hours for mp3 @ 128. -
Err not true, you don't have to convert all files to atrac, mp3s work just fine, wmas I think do not yet, but I haven't tried them yet. the files appear as OMA on the player, since CP adds a layer of protection around them so they can't be copied to another pc, but in they are still mp3 files.
-
I haven't tried lineout on my unit yet, but I have tried using a remote, the MC-E33EL that came with my MD. Sadly, only a few things work on it. -stop, forwards, backwards, pause, repeat, skipping folders (backwards and forwards, 10 songs at a time), display kind of works, but no song name or album info is shown sadly. shuffle also works. Didn't try the sound options yet, forgot about that. Sadly I can't do it now, since I am doing a battery test.
-
Hmm, not sure that works, never tried it myself. My favourite method of import is using ctrl=I, or the import file option, just select the files and click ok, not tried the import directory one, since it has crashed a few times on me, could be the pc though, as it isn't that fast.

Ascariss replied to xispe's topic in Grab Your Music (GYM)
I said it doesn't work, I also tried the mp3 manager but no device was found, I use CP, the connect player, which works fine for me. I only have the A1000 now, A3000 should be in next week.
