The EX71s are the best choice for the player, even though the stock buds, the MDR-E931s are not that bad, when compared to some other stock buds. One question about the EQ, does it function with MP3s files as well, since the older HDDs only had it with atrac files. Hmm, could the animations be like a screensaver? The comparison with the popcan is the best one, and does help in showing the size of the player. Also more of a personal question, since I haven't owned any HDDs yet, how easy can you fast forward the songs? since I have plenty of house music sets that are hours upon hours, and I don't want to split them into ind files.

Appreciated very much, thanks for not resizing as well. It's pretty damn small as well. Edit, I personally recommend to use the EQ, will make the music sounds much better.

Any chance you could post picture comparisons to other things, because the A1000 looks smaller in real life than oddly on paper.

Well if I had the CP cd, I would do this, but sadly using the update install method for CP and then trying to upgrade doesnt work. The check for updates doesn't work and won't launch. I'll just have to wait for mine to arrive.

Hmm, well oddly enough I was on the best buy website and the A1000 was shown at the bottom on the front page, said new product beside it. Indeed the purple one arrives on monday, but I didn't like the colour so I went for the silver A3000, so another 2.5 weeks waiting for me. Tridactyl, the people at futurehop were worse, the guy told me to ignore sony and go for an ipod when I asked about the new players 3 weeks ago. He said sony isn't good, when compared to apple. When I asked the same question at the best buy next door, he told me they were expecting them and to check in 3 weeks.

Ok the side is metal as well. took a closer look at a unit at the mall today. The metal is what is on the back of the ipod, although I am not sure how easily the sony metal can be scratched. I've come to the conclusion that the A1000 is too small for me size wise.

Smart move. Walkman sounds much better than aura, plus considering it doesn't have aura written on the walkman either, I was rather dumb founded to why they used that name anyways. Long live the Walkman, perhaps now sony will have some ads for this here.

I've see a change of quality of the malaysian plants, improved that is. My older MD recorder was made in japan as is the MZ-N10 both were of excellent quality and nothing to complain about. But when I bought my discman, D-EJ925 back in 2001, although the build quality was above average when compared to a plastic discman I bought earlier, some crap ass 100 dollar sony one (made in china mind you), overall he D-EJ925 wasn't all that great. Some parts were of cheapo quality and some parts didn't seem to fit 1005 to the body, not a large amount of parts but they are noticeable. The buttons felt flimsy and they were't very solid. but as of late looking at the A1000s and the other flash players, the factory has improved quality of their products, most likely due to some complaints in the years prior. Oddly enough areas such as china where a huge majority of electronics are made have much better reliability than areas with no prior production for electronics. It would have been nice to see the new players built in japan, but you can't win everything. I am sure the price would be higher as well, and possibly a metallic case too. Anyways, anyone know where the ipods are made?

funny I mentioned this someplace in the one thread, but it does seem like the UK beta tested the software. Most likely not officially but I don't think I've ever seen this happen before with anyother software from a major firm. Sure windows has bugs but microsoft jumps on these problems usually right away and when running XP with SP2, I have had no problems with any major programs with crashing on me. granted sony isn't a software company, but surely they could have hired people in the software field to help them out with what else but software. although just a guess, it seems as though the larger A series here, and the smaller flash players could have been delayed because of CP. CP would fail at focus groups, seeing as the majority wouldn't know much about PCs and all shit would break loose. I am not sure about a release in the US before christmas, people have recieved xmas catalogs from best buy and no new A series players are even mentioned there. By guess is that the announcement will be made at CES 2006 for a lauch maybe spring 2006 for the US. Anyone compare how much pc resources itunes uses? I never really checked. As for commercials, yet to see one on TV here in canada, nor in a mag, nor online or in any other media. None of the sony stores have any large ads for them either. best buy and futureshop just put them up on sale on their sites, the A1000s with best buy having all the colours and futureshop only the purple. perhaps when the new A3000purple launches on monday, there will be some ads. But until then nothing.

I don't remember now, but the back of the unit is metal. I think it is plastic though. perhaps people who own one can tell us.

The unit is available in the UK, if it was japan only I don't think Sony UK would have it on their site.

The only problem is if his system restore is turned off, it usually isn't since it is set to on when you install windows. I would first try deleting the sony reg entries, would be a faster alternative. delete it, reboot and try to reinstall SS3.2 or above. if that doesn't work, try the restore option, if that fails, format your pc, just kidding. But if that options fails, there is slight chance your might have a virus or something, but then again it might not. you can find hte complete file for SS3.3 on the minidisc.org forums.

I would go with the silver as well, the other colours in the stores didn't appeal to me, and the silver in real life looks more darker than in the press pics, it is more chrome in appearance/

Remember the black A3000 is a limited edition one, as is the gold coloured A1000, so supply will be limited when compared to the purple and silver A3000s.

this could be a possible error with the player, or perhaps firmware on it? not sure, is this problem occuring much? if so maybe reinitialize the player again, unless you don' want to lose all the music, call sony and tell them your problem, perhaps they have heard of this before.

a couple of hours? elaborate please, 3 hours is a couple in my book and this is rather poor. Perhaps recharge it once more and then try it. How loud are you listening to it? and are you using hte EQ, the backlight settings? VBR huh, judging from your nick, you listen to houe music? As do I and I myself have tons of songs in VBR but this usually isn't the best option and I usually redo them to 192kbps, unless the VBR is higher than I got with 256kbps. Perhaps try some 192 atrac3+ files and see how the battery life stacks up then.

Well aren't there sony stores in the uK? ie the official store from sony?

Not sure why it's hanging, but most people now a days are not using ME, and XP is the standard operating system. It could be ME.

Would make sense. most people's review have mentioned it works with SS.

The same problem occured here, the 20 gig models were supposed to ship at the same time as the A1000s, but they are delayed purple until this monday, and the silver until dec 15th. I have no idea why, unless someone does feel free to post why. I've been meaning to phone contact sony, but don't have the time.

Even though it is made in malaysia, the build quality looks pretty good when I looked at it. there are only 2 side buttons. The volume one and the artist link one, the volume is easy to easy and in nice position. I tested the artist link, but with only 2 songs, it was a pointless action.
