I can only second raintheory , The Low Volta and others recordists. My only complain is about the battery and I still hope the RM-MC40ELK will work properly. I too have over 100 live recordings waiting for digital transfers, so I will need definitely need this HiMD. I was not much interested by the 2nd gen. units that mainly offered me mp3 playback (I don't need it). But if the RH10 suits you better, then fine. Different people have different needs.

I just got my first real issue with SonicStage (3.4) today. I was uploading a live recording (swedish band In Flames), and I got a pop-up error message that it could not transfer the track and that the connection with the HiMD was lost. Quit SonicStage, close the device (with the icon next to clock, using XP SP2 with all patches) and now the media is unreadable, my NH900 ask to format it every time now ... First time that I ever have this happening, but it stills possible to corrupt an HiMD during upload.
-
It's basicly the same as the NH600, and has been reported in the news some time ago. But you can get the real NH600 for much cheaper anyway.

Thanks MDFreak for the testing and planned article on external powering ! A festival will require quite a lot of batteries, and it should not be that hard to stealth an external power source, because most of them allow digital camera, so having extra power makes sense. And ideally I should find a way to power my JB3 in a similar way (well, 5V with a small jack plug).

Read the various threads (News) on the new coming RH1, that's the only alternative to upload legacy recordings through USB.
-
And if you are in a dark place, just bring a keyring LED light, so you don't need to touch controls on the remote.
-
I'll have to buy one ...

+1 (Saving me a long reply ...)

AFAIK, M3U2SB is just automating Simple Burner, but daithi wants to upload a recording, not transfer from the PC. There is no way to recover a 'protected' file that I known, but SonicStage 3.4 might let you re-upload the recording (remove the previous file first). And also try recording with Audacity/TotalRecorder on your PC.
-
In you were using the Backup Tools provided by SonicStage before reformat, you could restore your library with all rights. But you will get less issues regarding DRM with SonicStage 3.4.

Do you think we could use some usb battery pack like this : http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=5121 I also have seen some already made on Ebay ...
-
No, but there is a firmware upgrade for the missing letters. (Contact Sony)
-
Totally agreed, Mr Soul ! No need for large display on a recording device.
-
The ipod is a player. The RH1 is designed for the semi-pro market of recordists. If you do our own recordinds, you usually end up with long tracks (that you can split home on your PC) at high bitrate, which means very few tracks per HiMD actually. So I personnaly don't see much the need for large display or rotating wheel. And if you are locking for this, the RH10 (or other units) is already there. I agree on the battery, but because of PCM/HiSP recording time. @UMWOOFWOOFF Welcome to the forums ! 1)Yes, old SP is back ! 2) We should get SP, LP2, LP4, PCM, HiSP, HiLP I believe

Or maybe use. Try recording a 3-days festival with no access to power supply, and you might understand the issue ...
-
Agreed, Dex, I would rather have 'fake' line-out and NiMH (+external AA) like we had with the NH900. I suppose I will have to investigate making an external AAs kit. And get a new job as well ...

@karaok 350 € was the suggested price for Europe. And I don't think there is an optical line out ...
-
You might also look at the european NH600 (1st gen) (not the american NH600D). 2nd gen. units like rh710 have native support for mp3s (transferred via SonicStage),but lack support for legacy SP recording via mic/line/optical-in.
-
Using Li-Ion battery is a bad move IMO, but I have over one hundreds lives in legacy SP and LP2 that are waiting for this type of unit ...
-
I'm waiting to see the final specifications and manual of the RH1 to check what it will exactly deliver.
-
The NH900 and NH1 effectively have line-out and HD Digital Amp (and timestamping for the NH1). Only Sony knows why those features have disappeared with the 2nd gen. But you gain native mp3 playback with the 2nd gen, so it all depends on what you are looking for.
-
Actually, the MicroTrack only provide 30V, which is a bit far from the 48V, and may or may not work depending on the mic. Otherwise, there are external devices that provide phantom power from a battery like this one: http://www.denecke.com/prod04.htm#PS2

Defying Expectations, Third Generation Hi-MD Unit Surfaces?
Roamer replied to Christopher's topic in News
The M-Audio has a fixed LiOn battery, so you can't swap it, which is an issue for long time recording. I also think that there is still room for HiMD as a recording device, and that Sony is moving the right way by producing this kind of unit (even if a bit late ...). -
If RH1 is the last unit, this will surely not happen. And I was more expecting support for Atrac Lossless (even if i would prefer FLAC).
