will this solution work for Windows 7 32-bit? Or do you recommend 32-bit users upgrade to 64-bit (Win7)?

Clear as Crystal. I would think using the latest driver would be an improvement for netmd models. Using a HI-MD model to make a standard MD disc just seems faster to me and more robust than a net md model. I don't know why. I didn't realize until I started using a 600D this week to make MDs.
-
Do you know if this custom driver provides any improvement for netmd transfers on the netmd models? HI-MD transfers on HI-MD models seem to work faster and more reliable (even in netmd mode) ?
-
Great find congrats! I use the PClink as well it is very good for analog recording from PC. Use it.
-
Why is this unit so thick? Thicker than any of the thickest netmd models. Is it air cooled? I forgive the designers of this unit as it sounds very good. Anyone have the Buffalo version of this unit http://buffalo.jp/products/catalog/item/m/md-husb/index.html ?

Thanks for the cleaning tip even though the terminals looked clean they seem to charge better after an alcohol swab cleaning.

Thanks Jim for the Toshiba TA2131 info I was able to hunt down this http://radiodetail.narod.ru/m_i/m_i_ta/ta2131.htm Now I understand better this is an analog vs. digital scenario for MDs upto the first HI-MD models. Strange in the initial thread someone said it can sound like the RH1 with some eq. Apparantly this IC has the following features 8mw beep pins (***beeep) bass boost function

I picked up another one of these 600D today. What other audio devices is the toshiba ic352 amp used? Edit: it looks like this ic is used in everything electronic tvs, dvds, microwave ovens. Why did Sony use this in the 600D? What is used in other MD models normally?

For these 1450 or 1350 gumsticks it is expected to be fully charged after 14 hours?
-
Perhaps so, I just don't understand how they could get out of whack in the first place. Do you know in general if MDs charge by timer or by cutoff voltage? The vapex std charge is 15hrs 145mA.
-
Yes I understand tweak V all you want I was just suggesting an alternative method, this method even works for older batteries that initially I found would not start charging. In the end I just decided to get replacement gumsticks. Gumsticks do not seem to have a long life.

Today I received some Vapex 1450 to replace a dying NH-14WM (A) that does not hold the charge well. I decided to go with the Vapex after reading recommendations on here. When I replaced it with the Vapex charging would not start. I was able to get the charging going only after connecting the single AA battery extendor with a fully charged AA and playing an MD for a few minutes. This I think gives an initial charge to the gumstick battery. After removing the extendor the unit started to charge. I got this to work on an MZ-N1 in cradle. The next unit I am going to try with is NF810. I suggest you also try this method if you have the battery extendor or wire the terminals to a standard charger for a few minutes my understanding is the MD unit is checking Voltage and other things before it starts charging for safety reasons. If my method fails I may need to make the same voltage adjustments for the NF810. I so far have no idea how to do this for this model.

I voted yes as well. Not likely I know. I was thinking they could come out with a nice name like MD Classic. Have some new features of Hi-MD but using MD discs with upload capabilities. Might as well throw in wi-fi access and maybe a mini browser. Sell it for 100 dollars and lots of people would buy it right :) ?

The way you mentioned is most likely the way it works however I was just thinking in a hopeful way they could have taken a shortcut as follows I see padding technically complex as the codecs are different: SP compatibility mode is LP2 converted to WAV and WAV is sent to the ATRAC chip at 1-2x in some special data mode. The quality is still LP2. I never timed it myself as I just started using this mode recently. USB 1.1 could handle this data rate MB/s? Secondary but more important consideration: If I take a WAV file and import it into SS, and then transfer it in SP compatibility mode, does SS first convert it to LP2 or does it start transferring right away? If it doesn't work this way could this be exploited somehow? ****I never understood the point of the heavy encryption in netmd. I can take a netmd disc and play it on any other portable or deck. Encryption was just to lock down the music file to the PC correct?
-
Yes you are correct SP compatibility mode is only available in SS. Does anyone know what is actually being transferred in this mode to the portable? A full wav? It does take a long time?
-
Your MXD-D400 sounds like a nice set it and forget it device. I have been listening to SP and LP2 discs as well, both sound great!!!!!
-
You have a good point about power consumption most decks are very low. Simple is also a good quality. The GigaJuke looks great did you know that it is windows based and the hard drive requires defragmenting?##@!? That is why I like a deck. It is super quiet and low power consumption. Just never seem to have enough blank discs! But if a cost effective music server was available I would get one.
-
Yes it is compatibility mode LP2 in SP fantastic quality. But I was so excited that it was there in software for older equipment (gives new life to them).
-
Has anyone actually used the MD SP compatibility mode in SS or SB? It is a useful feature for older decks and portables that play SP only. I am glad Sony included this over-looked option in their software for backwards compatibility reasons. A bit slow in transferring but the results sounds fantastic.
-
Your two portable are great sounding. You would even be able to hookup them to a hi fi the sound will be good. If you can get a Type-S deck then go for it. But there also many good Type-R decks many of them only play SP, the quality will be even better than the portable.
-
What are the strengths and weaknesses of each? Having all your music on a digital server sounds tempting. What about sound quality? Are there any recommended models out there?
-
Is it worth to keep using a minidisc deck or move to a digital music system? Are there any recommendations for either? Starting to feel weird with all the discs I have collected over the years I never seem to have enough.

I'm interested if MD SP quality is so good Audiochecker will think its a full cdda wav. With 320 mpg it can tell the difference. Interesting some CDs hold SCMS bit. Remember sony root kit on audio cds?
-
Hi, Anyone wonder what the results would be for the following if you have any experience please share. 1. Record to MD Atrac-R SP mode optical a Music audio CD something that audiochecker reports as genuine CD audio. 2. Upload SP MD to PC (RH1). 3. Burn wav file (from SP Atrac) to CD-RW. 3. Run Audiochecker on CD-RW http://www.dester.hu/English/home_e.html Just wondering if it would report the results as genuine audio CD (even though it came from SP)? Edit: Audiochecker can indicate if the source is mpg or cdda.

Just wondering is there such thing as counterfeit minidiscs? I haven't personally come across any but was wondering if anyone here had.
