What about crossing the CAN - US border with burned CDs in your CD player (ie. car)? This is equivalent to crossing with minidisc...Would they just take a look at the CD and say, hey it's not a purchased CD? With minidisc, there is not as much commercial minidiscs...i am not sure minidisc has an advantage here.
  3. Hello MD'rs has anyone been able to ship and receive the following to Canada? http://www.minidisc.com.au/sony-mznh600-hi...sale-p-461.html Is it possible? Thanks,

Isn't a levy paid in Canada for blanks including minidiscs...so you can copy any music you like to minidiscs in Canada?
  6. I occasionally have found the same problem with lp2, not with all SS transfers as well, which is puzzling. do you have other mp3 decoders installed ie. like ffdshow? I will have to agree in general with your statement. I removed ffdshow and found the sound to be better, but I haven't been able to spend much time figuring this out. Anyone have suggestions? With lp2 recording on the recorder itself I found the quality to be much better. Anyone else have experience with lp2?
  7. Thanks installing the patch made it work again. I spent the last 30 min trying to find a solution for this. Can this file be made available in downloads?
  8. what md model are you looking for
  9. how about in Canada? is there anyplace where a new md deck can be purchased?
  10. whats the life of a patent 20 years? hasnt the patent expired by now? ok i guess not looks like a few more years of waiting
  11. i guess hi-md would require licensing fees. Im talking just the md with mdlp.
  12. based on your replies, I'd say some co. in china go for it. There has to be a market for a digital audio recorder for home and portable use. Minidisc has been designed to be mass produced.
  13. What is stopping some 3rd party manufacturer from china to make a minidisc deck or portable for the original minidisc standard. Maybe they could make it with a less restrictive DRM? Ever since getting into minidisc with netmd I find the digital format very versatile, even if some ppl say the sound quality isn't all there. Is it a patent or licensing issue that would prevent them? Hasn't the original minidisc standard patents run out by now? Any comments?
  14. Has anyone tried this, with a pc cdrom drive? Seems real cheap to do. Will it work with any LED? http://leoricksimon.blogspot.com/2006/05/s...-interface.html
  15. how about lp4, that should be sufficient for fm? Isn't the fm signal combined into 1 channel similar to lp4 encoding?
  16. Sony should come out with a product like that. Can't get any better than 24-bit for music.
  17. everyone ended up getting refurbs, or dented/scratched ones. Not a great deal.

    Rip-off?

Take a look at the other warnings, the pics are funny. I have a 600d. It has very 'nice' sound. atrac format only though. Im guessing here... The date of the manual is 2005. I think they use the same chip as the other sony crampped players. Other than that, its got the same shell as 600d does.

    Rip-off?

I haven't found english ones yet. I can translate the warnings on page 8. The first one is don't listen to music and drive, otherwise you will smash your car into a post. The spec page on 38 seems like this does indeed play mp3 files.

    Rip-off?

I found the pdf manuals for this player here http://buffalo.melcoinc.co.jp/download/manual/m/mdhusb.html
  21. I agree, there aren't any more updated D series Hi-MD players. You can still find 600D players around, but thats already a 2 yr old model. The 600D got me into the Hi-MD scene without spending too much.
  22. I was also looking for these pics and didn't see them also. I recently purchased 2 600d's, fearing Sony will never make a budget Hi-MD unit again. Dooes anyone think budget Hi-MDs will come out again?
  23. I concur with andrelipinski's feelings on md in Canada. The md product line is poorly managed/supported in Canada. Why would Sony distribute portables here but no decks? I am sure there are many out there who have a portable would also like a home deck. Hopefully if a Hi-MD deck is ever released, it also gets released in Canada. No one uses tapes anymore and we need the digital replacement. It's the year 2006!
  24. Yes it is interesting, unfortunately the display plate still says Type-R. Thats whats strange. Is there any easy way to check manufature date?
