I agree, get it for playback, the sound quality is just like the recorders with line in, etc. You can still record to it from PC with netmd.

Perhaps something that can record onto a flash memory card in mp3 format where the card costs only a few bucks for 1gb size. You could also buy them with mp3s on them already which is wip. I can see them selling a device like this for less than 100 bucks. Selling blank cards would be great for them.

Another model I would recommend is the zune, even the flashed based models have great sound quality and gapless playback with mp3s.

sounds like there is an extra conversion to atrac after mp3 192k conversion, which is lowering the quality. Try to rip to mp3 @ 320 instead and the problem should go away. Also software gain can affect sound quality. I personally listen to netmd and never found volume to be an issue, how loud do you want your music to be?

i think with nedmd you are using cds and with the hi-md mp3s. Cds as a source will always sound the best.

i have a mdlp deck with a psych type downloader only minidisc attached to my computer. Since computers today are fast, burning mp3s / cds is very fast, this is how i enjoy md when i play it on my hi fi.

Domain registration 100/yr? mysql free? vBulletin free? hosting service xx/yr? time volunteer? Content sony mp3 players, recording devices, etc? Another option could be blog format, I have seen some blogs that come close to the forum format, this would resolve the backend services as it is provided. So are you saying there isn't much different between the lower Atrac 4.5 and Atrac type R?

Sony A815 2GB flash. I also have several MDs and 600D HI-MD to compare to. I believe the reason why the flash player sounds good, is there is quite a bit of sound processing to make it sound better. Perhaps ATRAC inherently has this quality as well.

I cannot really explain why MD just sounds better. One idea I had was that because Atrac sounded bad in the initial release, they put a lot in the hardware design to max out the sound quality. Today even the cheapest downloader netmd models still sound fantastic. I recently did buy one of the newer sony flash mp3 players and they do sound great so it appears some mp3 player designs have caught up. It even has that distinctive beep when you stop and start it just like md.
