I had the same problem and it was the codecs that were messed up. I reinstalled the divx codec and that solved the problem.

Sony NW-A806 or A808 - Transferring songs back to the PC
pomj replied to cooliojames's question in Audio
You can use naurds filemanager to get the songs off the player. Here's the link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nwe00xmp3man -
Is there *any* other indication that the model will be discontinued than the statement from this employee... ?
-
To me that sounds more like the NW-A808 will be updated. Not discontinued.

I second ricebOi87's advice. This is almost certainly a problem with your codecs. Generally you should stay away from codec packs and just install the ones you need. Almost certainly xvid. When I first installed imageconverter my vids played lightningfast like 3 times too fast. I reinstalled my Xvid codec and haven't had any problems since.

I use vista without any problems at all. Probably something in your system that isn't as it should be ...

Sorry for the last reply. (I use safari beta and that is a bug I've encountered that it sometimes cut's off posts on websites) anyway ... I have both the A1000 and the A808 and I've been very fond of my A1000 (I still think it's very stylish) but the A808 is better in nearly *every* aspect. It's quicker, better operating system, sounds better, play movies (and does that well), smaller, plays louder. It's IMHO simply a marvellous player.
-
Naah that is not correct. It's very easy to load the player with film/sitcoms/whatever. You use the supplied imageconverter program to convert and optionally load the player with film. SS is just for music. I also

read the manual. rtfm. that is a feature of your player that you can change the screen. obviously you've changed that setting.
-
I also got that once. After doing as the dialog says I've had no problems. Because the music library is a relational database (as on the ipod) it is very important to disconnect in a correct way so the operating system can empty the writing cache ensuring that all data has been written and closing all file handles. Failing to do that can partially corrupt the database giving the mentioned error.

Most of them. It takes longer to convert from your dvd's than to download
-
They are in ordinary xvid format. I use Image converter with avc baseline 16:9. The 16:9 together with zoom (on the player) cuts off the sides of an widescreen filling the entire screen. I prefer it like that but YMMW. Some times the conversion fails, image converter complaining about problem with the file streams. Sofar I've always fixed that by loading the movie in avidemux making it rebuild the index and then just save it. Now it will convert without any problems. It is possible to use other converters (PSP compatible) but I've never got as good results as with image converter. Yeah you're right about that

I've had mine for sometime now. I use it commuting everyday. I load the player with books, music and a selection of sitcoms to have during the day. Sofar the charge indicator on my player have always showed full. I do load the player each and every day and that seems to be enough to keep it fully loaded. I use the video alot and that is said to use quite alot of battery but as I said still no indication on the indicator. I just have to say that during my limited experience of mp3's (creative zen, nano, A1000, U3) I have never been more satisfied with a player. I simply love this little device. As chandler in friends said... I couldn't *be* more satisfied
-
Yes I know that SS is consistent in it's behaviour. The problem is when you (like me) put together quite large playlists with mixed artist. When youre finished listening to it you have a hard time finding and deleting all songs... I would have loved that SS for example to ask if you wanted to delete the tunes too. However I've learned to live with it
-
ok our problems were not the same. I can delete the playlist alright but the songs are still on the player which I think is an undesired behaviour. If I choose view by artist or view by album and delete from there the songs are in fact deleted. However when I view by playlist and delete there only the playlist are deleted and the songs are still on the player.
-
When you delete a playlist on the computer the files are not deleted. I think SS handles the playlist on the player in the same way. If you delete the playlist on the player just the list itself are deleted not the songs. I think this is unfortunate because this behaviour makes it (IMHO) more difficult to manage the songs on the player.

I can confirm success with nero recode (Nero7)
-
I changed the owner with "takeown /f file.ext" but that didn't help... However I downloaded mptrim from http://www.mptrim.com/. I just loaded the file and saved it again (mptrim cleans the file automatically) and now it works.
-
I just noticed similar problems and I think I have pinpointed it to that somehow certain songs have a different owner from the rest (IE administrator). I haven't figured it out yet to how to change owner on the file. (I use VISTA)

UPDATE: It is not possible to use NWE00xMp3FileManager to delete files. If you delete files and update the player, The players database gets corrupt. However you can use it to download songs to any computer. You can use SWEx to delete files without corrupting the database *but* you loose any playlists you have on the payer... So to conclude my findings: mp3filemanager, voidmp3fm and NWE00xMp3FileManager corrupts The database if you try to use it to load or delete songs from The player. VaioMusicTransfer is great for loading The player when you are on The go. No problem at all in XP and I've got it to work (with drag and drop) in vista too. But I don't know *what* I did to make it work... Puts The player in simple mode but playlists are untouched. SWEx. You can use it to upload and delete files BUT it puts The player in simple mode *and* you will loose any playlist on The player. Further if you tries to download any songs you get it with The OMA wrapper and The database number instead of a filename. A little inconvenient ... NWE00xMp3FileManager is great for downloading songs to The computer. So you'll need VaioMusicTransfer, NWE00xMp3FileManager and SWEx to cover all eventualities when your on The go.
-
Yes it works great with my NW-A808, but note that I think you have to have it on your player. My setup is like this: I use sonicstage at home and at work. On the player in a folder I have vaio musictransfer for loading the player when I'm on the move and NWE00xMp3FileManager for deleting files or downloading to any computer (do not try to upload music with it because it will corrupt your player database). Works great for me.

I have this: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2178 on my player all the time for deleting tracks and downloading to any computer.
