Why do you hate your brother to THAT extent?
-
Either I'm crazy, or not, but I got to laser readjustments the next day I got my first RH1, after getting READ ERRORs with HiMD formatted MDs recorded by the RH10. The second RH1 I received never had a chance to glitch, since I readjusted its laser before it played anything.
-
Looks like the HiMD laser settings need adjustment. Nothing serious.
-
Does the unit go past the Walkman logo when no disc is inserted? If yes, then the laser circuit probably needs adjustment. Have you tried different types of discs (1Gb HiMD, Hi-MD formatted MD, MD)?

Looks like the player was initialized from Windows Explorer, or there was an initialization error. Format it from its built-in menu, then everything should work OK.

Recording Audio on MD while shooting on a DV camera
Avrin replied to tingkumajique's topic in Minidisc
Never had this problem myself, since I do not use MD for recording while shooting drama on a digital (or analog) camera, but a friend of mine told me a while ago, that this happens. Seems perfectly natural to me. fishstyc described the cause absolutely correctly. I first encountered this effect some 15 years ago, while experimenting with different CD players. Put 2 absolutely same CDs (same pressing, etc.) into 2 different CD players, and start playing synchronously (from pause). Chances are that you'll get a noticeable discrepancy in just a few minutes. And we're talking about hours here. The solution to this would be to mark the time passing between two noticeable events (like drum peaks) on both records (video and audio) separated by a lot of time (hours or more), then calculate the difference ratio, and apply it to speed up (or slow down) the audio record. Then you will be able to synchronize audio with video without any problem. I would advice working in the 32 bit domain here (Adobe Audition or a similar program comes in handy for this), to minimize possible sound distortions from resampling. A serious problem may arise if the operating conditions of one of the devices are not stable. Like the video camera heating up during operations (causing its clock to change speed). In this case the discrepancy ratio will not be constant. Though I don't expect this effect to be too noticeable. -
Try my solution listed for the Walkman Device Detection Issue on this page: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071 1. Drivers for SS42 should work with SS40 (they were not seriously changed from the time of SS34.03). I don't know where to obtain native SS40 drivers now. 2. A legacy MD is not shown in Windows Explorer by design. 3. Do not start Windows Explorer, or any other file management software, and point it to the minidisc drive before starting SonicStage, or while using it. 4. Upgrade to SS42 as soon as you can. This is the most reliable and stable version. Do not forget to remove any traces of SS40 before installing SS42.

If anyone is interested in the history of the music massacre, read here: http://www.mindspring.com/~mrichter/dynamics/dynamics.htm 16 bits are 16 bits are 16 bits.

The only real difference between the European and the US version is that they use the respective Connect stores. All drivers and software are the same.
-
This one is also a European version w/o drivers taken from the European Vaio FTP site: ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/Downloads/SO/...01198200-UN.exe

There is none readily accessible for direct download. Actually you have two options. 1. Download and install emule from www.emule-project.net. Then use this link: ed2k://|file|SonicStage%204.2.zip|87571556|EC91625B370270F5B35D02756962FD86|/ to download a full US Connect version of SonicStage 4.2. 2. Download the European version, and install it. Then download and install support for US Connect from here: http://dl1.aii.co.jp/contents/connect/_dat...add_english.zip . All other components of US and European versions are the same. And, of course, you can use the web installer for the US version anytime.

Web-installers. Full installers for Europe.

One missing from the equipment browser: Sony's MDX-F5800 car MD player

Actually, the RH1 also plays 48 kHz MP3s just fine. Very useful when ripping music from DVDs. Second-generation units only played 44.1 kHz.
-
Same in 4.2, and probably in previous versions.
-
You probably have a Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading, which looks like 2 CPUs to the operating system. From what you have written, it seems like you have some serious problems with Windows, not SonicStage. A complete clean Windows reinstall will solve this.
-
I was talking about RIFF WAVE format used in Windows (and SonicStage). It is certainly possible to have bigger files in professional formats, they may even have a WAV extension.
-
Thanks! Unfortunately I no longer have the RH10 to experiment with it.
-
Guitarfxr, WAV files cannot exceed 2Gb on any file system. Even if you are able to make them bigger (using Canopus ProCoder, for example), they won't play or open anymore. A real problem for me when creating long DVDs (longer than about 3 hours 6 minutes for 48 kHz 16-bit sound tracks).
-
Yes, MP3 playback is disabled. I can not find my old topic about that.
-
Actually these units DO have built-in legacy SP recording capability, but it is impossible to select it without going to the service mode. All the required circuits are present. And my late RH10 actually recorded some tracks in true SP in realtime via optical in.
-
The fact is that SS feeds the LP2 (ATRAC3) to the unit, and the unit itself transcodes it to SP (ATRAC). Unavoidable. And takes ages.
-
It will actually be MP3>LP2>SP, which is even worse.
-
The E-series don't have it. It requires a lot of processing power, which the E-series do not have. The A800, on the other hand, has a powerful processor, capable of playing video. It is this power that is used for DSEE when playing audio tracks.
-
First of all, it is not 4.8 mW and 5.0 mW. The manual says that European models have only 4.5 mW. But the difference seems actually bigger, and the result of the hack is quite easily discernible.
