  1. so soundquality is equal to nw-a series? what about the noise cancelling? or 'clear bass' and that otter sound enhacement function it has (don't remember it's name) soundquality is the most important issue to me, so I really would like to know how it sounds. especially since sony claims it to be the best sounding walkman so far. greetz
  2. most people on this forum own a walkman, or a device that plays atrac. How do you use it? is it lying on your desk, or connected to your HiFi system all day? Do you mainly use it as a hardrive USB stick? or use it just for music? do you use it every day, or occasionally? do you listen to it the whole day, or just a few minutes? do you update your music library every day, or just once a week? in short... what does your walkman mean to you? what's a day of your walkmans life like? Is your walkman tired at the end of the day, or as fit as it was at the beginning? ....mine is very, very tired at the end of a day. greetz
  3. do you really want a color display? If you don't the nw-e00x series are a very good choice. They're probably way cheaper than the nw-s70x series. I've seen that 1GB is enough for you, but If you're considering to spent like 150$ on a nw-s70x series ('cause that's what they're probably gonna cost) why don't you look for a nw-a1000? it's got 6GB and a bigger screen. probably more functionality too. I don't know in what country you are, but here in the netherlands a nw-a1000 costs around $170. I just saw an offer from the local dixons store: sony NW-A1200 for $ 180!!! just awsome! I think 150 for 2 GB is just way too much if you can get 4 times more memory capacity for just 1.2 times the price. but that's just my thought. greetz
  4. I totally agree with Dinko. Nice way of expressing yourself btw! I couldn't have said it better myself! greetz
  5. Soundquality is the absolute NO. 1 concern for me. I've been stuck to minidisc for a very long time due to this. When sony realeased it's NW-HD5, I almost gave up MD, but decided to leave it for a while (I compared the shit out of the two) and go for a PSP. But then, earlier tis year, sony came up with the nw-a series. I heard them and decided to go for one of these, and no regret ever since! The sound quality is absolutely awsome! Compared to any other DAP I've heard (except MD) this has got the best soundquality! I've owned an Ipod Nano myself for a while, and when you listen quikly between things you can't really notice the big difference. But if you, like me, own an ipod AND a walkman you really begin to notice the difference. off course it's all subjective, but there are many people who say that Sony DAP's just sound the best. so if you're all about sound quality, my advice is to buy a sony DAP. I didn't say this because I'm a big sony fan, but just because it's true. greetz
  6. try importing the files with SSCP start SSCP, scan folder, and select the folder where you've put those files in. Sonicstage will put the normal names with the files again. hop this is what you where searching for and was a bit helpfull greetz & succes
  7. I think the nw-a series sounds very good compared to MD. My nw-a1200 sounded overall equally to my MZ-NH900. sorry, I didn't knew that VPT was hardware related, my fault. It was just my little wishlist I liked VPT and MegaBass, love to see MegaBass on sony DAP.. but I'm very happy with sony's daps soundquality. I always had MD/HI-MD because of it's soundquality, and hate Ipod for it. I swore by MD. But the nw-axxxx series were the first 'MP3 players' ( can't really say DAP 'cause MD is DAP too) that sounded good to me. Comparable with MD. for me, the ultimate thing sony could put into a DAP would be HD digital amp. But have to say, even without that, NW-a1200 still sounds very clear! greetz

    Sony New NW-S7xx series

I also agree with ascariss. I find it sad to see how these people talk about sony. These are just no rational people. you have to agree that everybody has it's own opinion and every company it's strong and weak points. Shure, a joke once a while is fun, but not like this. I bet the most of these people have never had a discussed device in their hands. I dislike Ipods.. but I don't talk about apple like that! I can see the good points of Ipod, and respect apple as a company and respect the people that love apple/ipod. it's all about respect it's just too sad I'm glad there aren't such people on atraclife. I really like this forum! greetz
  9. Damn... typical sony: very neath hardware (I really love the device's looks and specs) but what on earth is the point of this?! you can only use it's main features when you're near a hotspot or WIFI internet connection. Otherwise, you're just able to watch some vids or listen to some music. I'd prefer a psp over this. PSP can do all the things this thing can. I connect to internet via PSP (with bigger screen!!!), I sent email (gmail) with PSP, I listen to music, I watch vids (bigger screen AND UMD support), I browse photos, I play games and soon there will be VOIP for the PSP and camera (I hope it can function as a webcam as well). Only real advantage Mylo has over PSP is a full-sized keyboard. I'm still hoping this is comming for the PSP. that said, I really still don't understand the point of the Mylo. PSP is cheaper too! for the price of the Mylo you could have a brand new PSP with a 1 or 2 GB MS and perhaps a game or movie. So PSP all the way for me. But as I've said many times before: this is just my opinion still, it's a very cool design! greetz

    Sony New NW-S7xx series

ohh my ohh my.... bad move once again sony. Just released the nw-s series and allready planning another one? bad move! Like I said before, their prices are not right. The device looks tight and I like it better than a nw-e series, but the price isn't right and they souldn't realease this. They've got the nw-e series as flash line, and now the new nw-s series. Why do they have to realease another one?! they are going to end up with 3 different 'budget' flash player lines wich, I think, are too expensive. example: nw-e005 costs 140€ here in the netherlands (dixons store) while the new ipod nano 2GB costs 150€ that's just 10€ difference! and for the average consumer, the nano looks far more expensive and feature-packed than the nw-e00X. So I think sony has to ditch this 3rd flash line and put their efforts in making the new HDD (or big capacity players) really, really good. The only way they can compete with the other brands. greetz

    Should I?

I only hope it's comming soon.. but something inside my head is telling me that it will take a while.. don't know why... But if it's really soon, yes..in that case he could better wait and see what the big S is going to give us. But still... the question is: can he sell his PSP for enough money to buy one of those new DAP's by then? If he doesn't want to spent money, but still desires a DAP over a PSP, I think this deal is OK.. If you're not using the damn thing, it's pretty worthless in my opinion. greetz
  12. DSP

    Should I?

can I ask why everybody is against the nw-a1000? nw-a1000 is a fine device. If a guy just wants to listen to muzic instead of gaming the nw-a1000 is a good choice. nw-a1000 costs here in the netherlands 200$. so it's not really cheaper than PSP.. and for listening to music much more suitable. And shure, he could wait and see what sony's next DAP will be like.. but I'm afraid that's gonna take a while. but it's just my opinion. I own a nw-a1200 and a PSP.. and I love music much more than video or games.. so if I only had a PSP.. I'd trade it for a nw-a1000/1200 anytime! greetz
  13. DSP

    Should I?

I completely agree with MDX-400! If you're not using it anyway.. then it doen't bother how much it's worth. If you don't use it it's worthless. in that case I should go for the nw-a1000!
  14. DSP

    Should I?

It depends on what you prefer. - do you need much music? so large memory capacity? - do you want video? - wanna play games? - or is just music enough. (you don't really use PSP that much any more) You've gotta ask yourself these questions first. PSP is perfect for music playback. It's really fun to watch vids on it and the games are awsome. But if you prefer listening to music, and have all your music with you, then the nw-a1000 is a very good choice! especially with 45$ extra. You could buy some decent earbuds for that money. something I really recommend. (sennheiser CX300 for example) So the choice is up to you. But the nw-a1000 (if in decent condition) is a fair trade! greetz
  15. I hope someone can help me here. don't mind my bad english 'cause at the moment I'm verry, verry pissed. I keep getting an error when I open SSCP. it says that the database is corrupted or damaged or missin. I've found out that this is a familliar problem but I can't get a solution. now SSCP wo'n't work and SS 3.2 doesn't work either. I've never had this before. hope someone can help here. greetz
  16. I agree with navsimpson that the codec doen't make that much difference. atrac VBR would be fun, but I've read that VBR isn't always as good as it's supposed to be. for me, nothing sounds better that atrac3 at the moment. Though I like OGG pretty much, but dislike the lack of support the codec has. (developping support) Sony should set atrac3 free and give other people the oppertunity to develop atrac. I think it wouldn't take long for us to see atrac VBR come out if that would happen. what I try to say is that imho atrac is a very underestimated codec. I think it's the best codec out there, But I understand that there are many people who don't. But then it's still just a very damn good codec. I'm hoping of a future where creative zen's, apple ipod's, microsoft zune's and all the other DAP's are capable of playing atrac. If they made connect really good they would earn a lot of money there, because so many people could use atrac. And that's were the sony music department could come in handy, if they can get it right. greetz
  17. I think the fact that it looks like an old MD remote is just awsome! Soundquality will be allright. not as good as my nw-a1200 or the MiniDisc, but it'll still beat all the ipods, like my nw-e307 does. The design is really fun and stylish (if you'd go for the black one) but the price is just not good. I'm absolutely NO ipod lover, but the new nano 2GB costs 150€. the S200 2GB costs 179€. I have to be honest on this: the ipod DOES have a colour screen. I'ts no advantage, but it should be more expensive. So I think sony is completely missing the point here. If this thing wants to compete with the ipod nano, the 2GB version should be at a price range of 120 - 130 €. Then they can compete with the nano. still a wonderfull little walkman! If the prices drop I might get one for myself. But that really depends. greetz
  18. does somebody know how these compare to the sennheiser cx300 I´ve owned the mdr/ex71 but cx300 sounds sooo much better. First wanted to get these but I thought they were a little too expensive. CX300 are really good. can they compare
  19. I really don''t want to see atrac die. I love atrac. It has superb and superior soundquality from my point of view. So they don't need to ditch atrac to get their stuff together, just give it free. Make it usable for every programmer in the world, like MP3 and all the other codecs. It's the best codec I've heard so far. OGG is pretty good, LAME MP3 is acceptable and AAC/WMA do the job but atrac just rulez them all out in therms of compression vs. soundquality. My 64 Kbps atrac3+ files sound sooo damn good that everytime I listen to my Walkman I can't believe that I'm listening to 64 Kbps. But that's just my thought. so @ sony: SET ATRAC3 FREE!!!!! P.S: I don't really understand why they don't. If it's for the sake of interests; If they realease it, they'll earn money with licensing the codec to other companies. Or am I missing something here? greetz
  20. I agree with pata2001. I think PSP has many potential. The battery life is indeed very acceptable. I don't really mind the region codes. but that's mho. The UMD is a very good medium. I've used Minidisc for a very long time and I really loved it. I think UMD is somehow related to MD (HI-MD). That said, I don't really understand why they left the back of de UMD casing opne at the part where it gets read. With HI-MD and MD this part was covered by a sliding part, so that the disc itself couldn't be damage outside the device. All in all, I think PSP is a very good product. Shure, if those flashcards would be as cheap as UMD it would be a good thing if PSP 2 used this medium instead of UMD. But like pata2001 said, at the time the PSP was realeased UMD was the best medium to have. imho psp is the ultimate portable entertainment device. very good screen, very good audio quality, very good gaming experience, very neath graphics and looks pretty too. The only thing I miss is anti-aliasing. But that's for PSP 2 I hope. greetz
  21. Hi folks, I own a nw-a1200b. I've used to own mz-n707 and mz-nh900 MiniDisc players. I bought an ipoo nano the other day (yes I know, but I could get it for 20€ so I thought it would be nice to play with) and I clearly notice the BIG difference in soundquality between them two. since I like my nw-a1200 really good, I would like to see more sound-related upgrades in future FW. like that good old VPT acoustic engine that my mz-nh900 had. Or something like bass-boost or clearbass like mentioned before. What about the EQ. You can adjust it, but the jumps you can take are so big... I'd like a more detailled EQ (6-band would be even better). btw: am I the only one around here that loved VPT? hope sony's reading this greetz
  22. yes, there are far more accessories available for ipod nano, but that's logical because nano is sold more. But what I really meant is the accessories you get with the device. So in the box itself. since I got an AC adapter with my walkman I think sony is ahead of apple on that. @ navsimpson: I can play atrac files with WMP 10! I figured this out with some DLL plugin file I downloaded once. I just putted a copy of it in every folder of the WMP folder and guess what: it just played atrac files! It does give an error but just clicked 'yes' there. greetz
  23. I own a sony mz-n707 for almost 5 years now and it still plays very, ver wel and very, very long. It's truly the most trusty and loyal device I've ever owned. Do you people have such a device? a device that has never ever let you down, a device that's always fit and ready to serve you? A device that's soo damn old and in fact useless, but you just can't sell it or throw it away? tell it to me. I'm really curious if you have those devices to. greetz
  24. I have to agree. you don't get much accessory with your products today. But still I got an AC adapter with my nw-a1200. A friend of mine has an ipod nano and had to buy it. So sony is still ahead on apple with that. But I miss those old times, when unpacking a new walkman was soo exciting. Guessing what the big S had put in the box this time. When I got my mz-nh900 2 years ago, I got a cradle, adapter, headphones, remote, carrying bag, a HI-MD disc and a ton of little manuals etc. and off course the SS CD. that were good times. You needed like a half hour to unpack the box . They are even too lazy to put a normal User manual in the box these days. You get it in PDF on the CD. I really hate that! I don't pay 250 € to get up and turn my PC on everytime I wanna look something up! greetz.
  25. @ JSP62: with regret in my heart I have to admit that you're totally right. Sony has been screwing up over the past few years. Although their products were still great. But if sony would do al those things you said, I think sony is the one comapny that can make great hardware. After all, that's what they used to do and THAT'S what's keeping me with sony. But they wanted too much. I really, really hate to say this but it's almost like Microsoft: they wanna have a share in everything. That just doesn't work sony! @ sony: Just do what you used to be soooo damn good at: making great hardware that people really loved for functions design etc. and keep your filthy hands of the film, software and music industries and other non-hardware related stuff! I just want to ask people to not judge sony to hard. It stays the company that brought us MiniDisc, CD (okay, cooperation with Philips), Playstation and not to forget the FIRST Walkman! They're just in conflict with themsleves, that's all. They'll solve it greetz
