damn..I'm so f*cking curious. I can't wait to see what they're gonna do this time. mess things up, or make a killer!! Sony has been messing ome things up in the past, allthough I think they make the best DAP's . But it could be so much better. They could easily rule the market. I still think sony is the ONLY company that can make the perfect DAP. They have the designers, the technology, the engineers, the backup, the possibilities and the power to make the perfect DAP. -they have Walkman label, wich is known every-where in the world! -they have Bravia/realityMAXX display technology -they have the best sound of all DAP's -they have all sorts of media giants like columbia pictures and sony/BMG music etc. and so on... I just hope they are gonna get their sh*t together and make something that's worthy enough to carry the *sony walkman* label. greetz

it's really easy. just make sure you can edit extensions, edit the name of an .oma file to .wav and there you go... works fine for me. greetz

@ sif I'm aware of those things you mentioned. but for me the video walkman would be absolutely awsome if it had all these functions, and I think every-one would buy it. If it had all those features no one would consider an ipod. This would just make an awsome walkman. greetz

I can't really say what the new walkman will have, 'cause I'm sooo curious of what sony's comming up with this time. it can either go terribly wrong or be a hudge succes. I can only hope for the following: - 10 band EQ, clear stereo, clear bass, NC - very nice OLED FULL color screen - great HDD capacity whise - support for: mp3, wav, wma, aac, he-aac, pcm, atrac3, atrac3+, xvid, divx, mpg, mp4, wmv, avi, jpg, tiff, png, gif - tactile buttons - good stock earbuds - >20 hrs battery life - very nice menu structure (XMB for example) - WIFI - recording capabilities (audio and video) - many interesting and neath functions - great form-factor (different than standard form-factors, perhaps PSP-like. ) - great design. use of high quality and durable materials like metals. Black and stylish colours, make it a style icon, not a toy. - make sure that SS works from the start of perfectly smooth. no hick-ups or other annoying stuff this time. please!!! make sure video and photo are well integrated! I hope some-one at sony will read this, but I'm very sceptical Just hoping the video walkman will be something like this. I have faith in sony, but i'm very anxious. greetz

@ navsimpson: that sonicstage premium is only available for japanese market. It has much more functions (EQ, effects etc etc) I'm really curious about it if this is as crappy as the SS we all get outsiede japan? and why on earth won't they allow people outside japan to use this software?? If any-one knows how to get SS premium, I would appreciate it very very much if he/she could share it with us. greetz

I've had the mdr-ex71's for 10 months when the driver went mad. Sucking on the earbud was pointless then, it just was totally gone out of control they're dead now ...nut doesn't bother me, since I'm enjoying my sennheiser CX300's sonce last summer. I have to say, I'm a big sony fan, but these ''sennies'' just wipe the floor with the sony mdr-ex71's greetz

what do you mean by ''all the NW walkman come in the same purple box''????? they obviously don't, as you can see above. greetz

dear people, We all know that sonicstage hasn't always been, and still isn't, the best software around these days. SSCP is good so far, But still leaves some desires unfulfilled. With the latest release of SSCP 4.2 I got to think of the following: It's known that a Video Walkman is on it's way to our pockets. It's logical to think that this device would also suport photo viewing. I think the video Walkman is going to be absolutely faboulus, but (as has always been the struggle with sony) how will the software be? upto now, sony DAPs have shippend with openMG and SS/SSCP. openMG was awfull software, SS got better and SSCP was quite good. But when a walkman with loads of features like video and photo support arrives on the playground would good old sonicstage be able to handle all those functions well? in my opinion there are 5 things sony can do: 1) completely redesign SS and rebuild it from scratch, and integrate the new functions absolutely perfectly. 2) scrap the SS formula and make an other piece of software that matches the needs of the new generation walkmans better. 3) let a (better) software company design the software (so in this case, also a new formula) 4) set atrac3(+) free and let the walkmans have drag&drop support 5) sit back, make some adjustments so that SSCP can handle and transfer video and photo files and see what will happen. I hope they'll do the first (actually that they'll do the 4th option but that ain't gonna happen). how do you guysthink about this? BTW: why can't we have this? sonicstage premium?!?! greetz sony walkman software as it is today: sony walkman software as it once was:

I updated, but SSCP 4.2 loads UI compnents, I get to see the black window werein the software should start and then it hangs itself. any-one an idea what this could be? SSCP 4.0 worked better. but I hope I get it working, 'cause as you might know I'm a soundquality/enhancement freak, so I'm very, very curious about DSEE!!!!! BTW..since ss 4.0 officially got renamed SSCP, isn't this SSCP 1.2 or something? greetz

I don't agree with the above. I think real soundquality is dependant on more that just the audio chip. If it did, they should indeed sound all the same. But they don't. I've listened to many DAPs. I thought for a long time MiniDisc was unbeatable, but the nw-a series do a good job. greetz
-
do you actually notice difference with other walkmans concerning clear stereo and clear bass? If so, what differences do you experience compared to the nw-a* series? I get the impression that the soundquality of these little players are very good. Is this true or just some spoof? I asked you above to compare it to an nw-a* series walkman, but if you would compare it to those trusty old MiniDisc DAPs, how does the soundquality compare to them? For example to a mz-nh900/mz-nh1 (they had digital amp, VPT and decent EQ. I really miss that! ) If you're or some reason not able to do this comparison, I would really appreciate if somebody who can would take the effort to do so. as you maybe allready know, SoundQuality is my biggest concern with a DAP. That's why I miss VPT, digital amp and a decent EQ. but hey, you can't have everything. I really hope any-one can make those comparisons. Thanks in advance! greetz

doe any-one here have experiences with the sennheiser HD 25-1 in combination with a sony walkman, say nw-a1200/1000??? I use them frequently in the radio studio, but have not had the oppertunity to test them with a walkman, for a longer period... thx in advance greetz

I think it's great to see that people are still using those old fashioned walkmans.... It's kinda 'retro' I own a old PCDP from sony (no walkman series though) and an really ''retro'' Casette walkman!!.. It's the history of or beloved walkman, if not of the whole portable audio market!! I just think they're cool in a way... we store all historical items, why not the walkmans too? some history book in a library in 2506: ''Sony Walkman, those who gave the world portable audio, 500 years ago.'' some museum guide in 2506: ''On your right you see the Sony TPS-L2 walkman, the device that created portable audio as we know it today.'' wouldn't that be fun greetz

ohh my god.. that package... is that the package it comes in in the US? I hate those plastic packages, it looks so damn cheap. Like a toy bought from a local toys 'r rus or something like that. I bought mine (nw-a1200b) here in the Netherlands, and it came in a shiny violet box. When you open it a stylish black box comes out. If you open it (flip it open) you can see the walkman sitting there behind plastis cover..as if it were to b protected like a piece of art sooo beautifull I'm in love with that package... shame you guys in the US don't get it.... soo nice.... BTW: this is not MY walkman.. as I said, I have a black one.. black is just the way of style greetz
-
is the black nw-a1200 not available in the US. I live in the Netherlands and I own a nw-a1200 black, I think that's a very cool color (imho). If black isn't available I would probably go for the silver one, but since that also isn't available in the US (as I've read), the violet one is a good choice, Pink is way to childish/candy-style. Don't like that. I've had the violet version in my hands just the other day and I thought it looked a little bit too purple. But when I held it out of the light, It looked a bit dark purple, and that looked very sweet! greetz

design is a matter of taste, I too have (had) a lot of sony stuff. also a few MD/HIMD units. design was indeed very good, but I also like my nw-a1200b very ,uch, it's beautifull. greetz

honestly, I don't think you'll get a new one. Damage due to water accidents is not hard to recognize and it isn't covered by warranty. so I think they'll repair it (if possible) and if your unlucky they'll charge you too greetz

- wide codec support (MP3, AAC, ATRAC3, WMA, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, AVI, MPEG1+2, MP4, DivX, XviD) - awsome audio performance ( 6 bands-EQ, clear stereo, clear bass, HD digital amp.) - BIG TFT LCD screen with VGA resolution, 16 million colours, good contrast ratio, no ghosting and made by SHARP. - ICON based or XMB menu structure, with many personalisation options. - good capacity variety: 20GB, 40GB and 80GB - good accesories supllied: dock, decent headphones (like S700 series), cleaning thing, protections bag, etc. - noise cancelling - A2DP support - sonicstage & drag 'n drop support for media files. - under 350 € but I guess this is a big dream that won't come true greetz

I think it is really sad that a company like apple gets affected by such a relatively smal/simple virus and in this way gets to loyal consumers too. Everybody can get affected by a virus some day, but you don't expect this to happen with a company such as apple. It is a serious computing company so I would think they knwo how to avoid these kinds of virusses. just sad greetz

I agree with stuge: wait for a while. Information leaked that sony is working on a video walkman. If this is an offer, or a real cheap deal, and you don't wanna wait or don't need video in your walkman: go for the nw-a3000, nw-a* series are better in sound quality (though it's not much) and have nicer screen. I think nw-hd5 is a great device, but the LCD sucks big time! The nw-a3000 also has more and better features! and supports more audio-codecs! but as said: if you're patient enough, wait and see what sony's going to release in the upcoming future. greetz

Question: Any Network Walkman that supports the newest Memory Sticks?
DSP replied to HEARDATBEAT's question in Audio
as far as I know the newest memorysticks are the 'M2' sticks. PSP doen't support these natively, maybe with an adapter. correct me If I'm wrong -
@ spex thank jou very much for testing and answering so quick! really appreciate it! so it looks like S700 is very good soundquality whise. maybe I'll buy one if I ever come across one! thx again! greetz

hi, it's well known that sonicstage can't really handle big library's If you want a problem free operation, I'd recommend to use sonicstage only for adding music to your HI-MD. Use WMP11 as a MP3 manager. so to manag and listen your music. this way you can manage and listen your music without problems and are able to transfer music to your HI-MD without sonicstage freezing. after transfering, just delete the usic out of it's library, and it will be more stable and frezz less times! greetz succes ermee he!
