You mentioned that it DID play in Audacity , there is where you should start . In Audacity you can Resample the file or "Save As" and select bit rate . and Mono or Stereo settings , spend some time learning Audacity . Go thru the help files and tutorials , also online at Audacity's site tips and trix . After resample you can then place the file in Newsroom . and it should work fine.

yes they existed , for the medical community , and were Drive bay installed , just like a DVD or CDRW . And were used in Electron microscope storage , and other for photo and audio.. a list ............. http://minidisc.org/md_data_table.html

Also to add to 440 ( he is right about the fakes, and the GP's I have a couple . ) NMHD batteries , if you let them drain completely down , as in Dead , which I can easily see happening in a classsroom situation , ........ They will not charge . Once you allow NMHD batts to go completely down the chemicals inside begin to catylize , and crystallization occurs in the cathode ends . You dont see it because it happens inside the battery . at "Low Batt" it needs to be on the charger, and fairly soon . If it shows "Low Batt" and you let it sit overnight , you wil likely kill the battery . NiCads, NmHD 's and Lion's all have self depletion rates that vary ,but the do deplete fairly quickly , when not used or stored in the unit .

it sounds like it was coming moe from one side , What cable or input wee you using , was the cable completely in , is the Cable bad (test with a meter ) it souds like a "ground fault " . In electrical terms , it is where a DC biased signal gets looped thru the Ground or Earth , back into the Positive side or the Audio path . If you try linking two pieces of certain audio gear together with the same power supply , and audio path , a ground loop will result , and can be bad enough to actually damage the equipment. Example . an Older BOSS RPQ 10 Preamp / Parametric EQ , has on the back a DC in , and a DC out . So I set my MicroBR right on top and conected the DC Extension and audio cables to see if it would work . The EQ shut down , Signal died and tried to protect itself, and made almost exactly the same noise as your mp3. Just fill us in with how you had the RH1 setup when you recorded.

I could help with that , just come visit Japan , and I will introduce you to a few ( who actualy speak english , and French) and well...... I think you need to learn the lyrics to "Year of the Cat " and you will understand.

think of this, The quieter the sound to be captured , the higher the gain has to be , or the closer the mic has to be to the object The Louder a sound is, the Lower the gain has to be , or the farther away the mic has to be to the object So , a Loud sound is forcing you to lower the gain , thereby losing the Quiet part that you ALSO wish to capture . by judiscous use , of limit functions you can Tame the loud sound , so as to raise the gain a little ( it requires balance for a natural sound) and then you get the quiet parts ... with more clarity .

takes about 35 seconds on my APPLE MACBOOK PRO with MD Transfer 2.0 and it stays as WAV , HiLP> Wav , HiSP>Wav ,PCM>Wav .

Need help to find the right battery module for mics
Strungup replied to giar's topic in Live Recording
PHANTOM POWER REQUIREMENTS 11-52V DC, 2 mA typical 18 volts phantom would be mre than enough, and you get that by building a circuit using two 9 volt batteries . There is supposed to be a small power module for those mics , did you buy them used ? here are some DIY's http://www.diyfactory.com/projects/jlmsimp...jlmsimpledi.htm http://recording.org/users/kev/PS.htm http://www.sound.westhost.com/projects-6.htm http://www.fivefish.net/diy/neve1272/default.htm ( definately klik this one) http://web.telia.com/~u31617586/ -
well dont think of the Limiter as a Compressor .It isnt to Add Punch , it is to LIMIT the top part of the signal so you can raise the rec levels to be able to capture to quiet and Loud with a fairer balance , rather than no Limit and having to DROP levels and lose the quieter details. But yes it is in the digital or software realm , I would much prefer a nice Tube limiter , but it just wouldnt fit in the ZOOM

just that the Quality of the Mic pre's in the RH1 are SOOOOOO much nicer . I own both The H2 and The RH1 So then the quality of the Audio in the computer when normalized or Raised will be Very noticable. Just two cents worth . The thing about the H2 is the Limiter , I find myself leaving the Mic ain on Mid setting , The limiter ON type 3 , and raising the Recording levels up as high as I can without clipping or straining the limiter , the result is a good balance of audio level . Just not the same Clarity and Dynamic range of the RH1

Hey Jamie , I am on a Macbook Pro , so I dont need an additional soundcard ,I have Optical out and in . But If you dont have that , ( Opticals) then I might suggest the M-Audio Transit . it is a USB Audio interface , that gives you Optical In/Out , and on the same jacks Line IN/Out with adjustable gain for either input or output . http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Transit-main.html It works for Windows and Mac , I have one that I use for field work and others computers if I need the sound quality. Fis in a pocket and works great . For recording from your Computer Connect the MD and put it in Record Standby mode. Then with whatever Audio player that is on your computer Start the song you want , while it is playing check your levels on the MD . When the levels are where you want them , strat the song again and hit the pause button on the MD to start recording . Very simple , just the same as if you were recording from a CD player . Just make sure that no other progs are running or, that YOU arent doing anything , because any Mouse kliks or Notices ( Beeps etc , will come thru the sound card ) You can also , if you use the Optical port set the MD to SYNC Mode , and when you start the song ('s) it will automaticall start recording . To record FROM the MD -> Computer , use the program called Audacity , it is a Freebie , and an absolutely nessascary (BOO!) Audio tool http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

So either way he might as well go thru the souncard . I would suspect that USB adapter , doesn't carry or convert track info or anything else , just extracts the audio from the Binary and sends it out as optical .

The MZR900 is NOT USB , it only has Line Out /In Mic in , where do get USB from ?????? if it is a 900 your barking up the wrong tree dude . Only the N series which are net MD have USB ports . You cannot use an Audio port with USB !!! Audio -> Audio , USB -> USB Sonic Stage isnt GOING to recocnize that unit http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R900.html Dont get me wrong , not trying to be mean , and the 900 is a Cool MD unit , just that your trying to put a square peg into a round hole It is really important to actually understand , what you are trying to do , and whether in CAN be done or not . Otherwise your going to get results you don't want .

It will b a Center field sound image , If you have any recording level controls in the menus on the Camera try using them, to get good but not over the top levels.

How much freedom do you have with this venue? do you have access to a small mixer ? ( I have an AT 822 Stereo mic that I use for Acoustic situations like this and have not been dissapointed ) but if you want a really good sound I see that the room has some oddities that would let clamp some mics in Out of the way places that would be acoustically Very usefull . You have a pic facing the front , show a pic facing the back, taken from the Center of the stage . Th upper part of the back wall in particular . Secondly , if you clamp two small mic stands right at the front of the stage ( See the little ledge that sticks over the edge ) usins a pair of Drum mic Clamps . The Mics would be behind the sound system , and in front of the performers ( a more Acousitc sound) Mics at the Back wall up at the top will give a more studio sound , the processing of the Sound system , and Audience together . I see also cubbies on the sides of the room at the top of the walls , a Mic in the cubbie hole on the left side of the room , and the right side of the room , would give a very open sound with a fair bass response and a nice stereo spread . If you have cubbies on both sides , A small table stand mic clip , in each of those would be optimum , you would get the sound of the room itself . From the size of the room and the fact that it isnt square , but has a lot of reflective angles , I think I would go with those Cubbies that I see ( Right above the door the lady is walking thru ) Cables down the wall and under the chairs to a small mixer to the camera line input . tape the cables to the floor in btween the wal and the chairs . Make sure to use Omni Directional Mics , if you us Cardioids you might miss alot of the dynamics from an Acoustic group , If it is going to be Loud then Cardioids might be usefull for a more focused sound . A pair of Audio Technica 3032's would be very good here , spread out left side / right side of the room http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mi...e27e/index.html ...............The mics I speak of

Bass shakes my MZ-M200 and I get skips and errors....
Strungup replied to rcl's topic in Live Recording
There are Blue gell pads , that are for computers to keep vibrations down , they will help , but your dealing with Atmoshperic Vibration as well as physical vibration . That isnt good for MD . You have a Disc spinning at about 4500 rpm's with a Laser imprinting info to the disc . ANY vibration of a Strong consistant nature will throw the Laser tracking off and you will get Disc errors , or completey unreadables. If you want to use MD in that enviornment , build a small box ,line it with Grey sound foam and isolate the MD from the vibration by putting it in that box , under the box , two of the blue gell pads ( Computer shops will have them or order them ). Then you will get good clean recordings , I have worked with some MAssive sound systems , and I know it is some extra effort , but well worth it . The difference is night and day . -
All the portables I have had , had Optical , I have two now that Have optical , NE820 , and EJ855, I had a 771 awhile back , but sold it after I got the 820 . I havent use ATRAC Cd , so I didnt know they couldnt be Toslinked . I have done MP3 CD , and they can be .

Now if you can just teach your RH1 to do Video !!!!!!

The Aiwa discs are not that good , always had some problems , I would stay away from that one . Especially if he has to "Do Something " to it before sending it . ....doesnt sound good to me .
-
Hey Vlad , hope everything works out ok for you .
-
That is actually a good question . I have had older MD's that had a little trouble playing newer Discs ( e25 playing Standard Sp from the RH1 or MZ-r700) First gen Kenwood would play first gen discs , but would stutter and fart at newer discs, so it would be worth doing some experimenting on .

Dropping is not good for an MD , especially an OLD one , just like OLD people , Ya gotta be NICE to them if you want them to cooperate . My R50"s (yes that is plural ) are being very good to me

You were actually able to NEGOTIATE in Chinese .........THAT is impressive !
