I have seriously been looking at the D888 , PM me and tell what you think of the Mic pres , Fucntionallity is self explanatory , that is an engineers portable dream .

Temps , that drop to freezing are not good for the MD , You need to make aThermal Pouch for the MD . 50 F - 85 F is MUCH better , 32 is just to cold for the mechanisms, and ribbon wiring ,it will cause them to get brittle and eventually break . Solder joints can crack to , the type of solder used in MD circuitry is a special Very low temp solder . so it doesnt take extremes all that well . Also at higher altitudes , condensation can become a problem . With early morning especially bad , Condensation builds up ( even microscopically ) and depositis will build up on the circuit board and laser head . Minerals and chemicals from the atmoshere . Neoprene fairly tight pouch covered then again by a clothe bag of some sort , will help with most of the above .

I already took it apart once , LOL , Gotta have the specs , for the capsules ( Voltage , Impedance , etc. ) without actually demolishing the thing. and Zoom isnt giving that info up . However , I have the sneaking suspicion that it isnt the Mics themselves , but the circuit design.

Played with the H2 today after the Takyubin ( Delivery ) came . Some interesting things . Left front mic ( or channel ) had gone bad , sounds better now , but I decided to fool around with power options . I have a Small solar panel , that is rated for 6 volts , 250 ma ,under load. Open circuit Voltage is about 10.15 volts @ 150 ma. I plugged it into the H2 and went outside , turned on the H2 and it fired right up. Then I decided to see what would happen if I blocked the solar panel ,( Would it shut off or would the batteries take over ????? ) Guess what happened ............. Yep the Battery sign comes on , and not so much as a Mousefart in the sound, .... went both ways Solar off , Solar on , and still no break in the sound . it just kept recording . That is a VERY cool feature ... on the fly power switching with no interupt . I just wish the internal mics sounded like my AT 822 , ..........That would make me very happy .

iPods do record , They just have to have an attachment that accesses that feature , they record in 16 bit 44.1 khz It wont be 600 , list I think is 499 , so think 4 bills

Are they on Prerecordeds ?????? ( show me a Link) I can Record some of them for you . or easier , I will give you the COOOOOOL way to get that stuff. Divx.com ....Download the Divx player , and webplayer for your browser , then go to stage6.com and type in the search field Crystal Kay . I have downladed almost all the vids , for her and Utada Hikaru , Not really into MMusume ( met them once) But most of those are in the Japanese music videos section plus a WHOLE lot more , and the audio quality of the videos is Good enough to rip to HiMD then Import and burn to CD . They Really are good. Sony PCM -D50 .......... done , you asked for it you got it .

I will look around -
Well not to start an Arguement , I have Both the R50 , and the RH1 , Each have their respactable points , each has their detractions. While the R50 is not USB or MDLP , I personally think it was in fact the best built of all the MD's Over a decade of use , before my silver died( I have a Blue one as well) whereas most other MD's last 3-7 years depending on Model , the RH1 has been out for awhile now , and the reports of problems are begining to show up . so 3 years maybe 4 , and that is with fairly heavy , ( not overly so ) useage . I recorded well over 500 discs with my R50 and Played a thousand more than that , I served me very well , The Audio quality of the Line out is pristine .There being it's plus over the RH1 , it has a Dedicated Line out , instead of a Combo Out like the RH1 , the Phone preamp , and Line driver are completely seperate circuits, that means Clean Audio. The discs I have burned on the R50 , have never failed or been difficult for another machine to read . I had a problem with a MDLP disc that had 2 Cd's on it , they were recorded on an MZ-R70 digitally , the Output was so hot that my 930 HiMD player was distorting ( even with the volume turned down ) I began to think something was wrong with my 930 headphone driver. But I checked the disc in the RH1 to look at the levels , and they were peaking hard and solidly above 0db mark ( The R70 had recorded very hot , and would play its own discs well, so I didnt know) I Plyed the disc in the RH1 ( which was Not distorting ) and seperated the two CD's on to the R50 at reasonable levels , now my 930 is happy again . R50 to the rescue , and helped by the RH1 Th R50 is the Toughest of the MD's , very solidly built , you know as soon as you pick it up . The RH1 is Dainty in comparison . Mic Input of the R50 with my AT-822 is quite comparable to the RH1 maybe a little nicer actually . I just like the sound of it . The RH1 , ......... It is MAC/PC compatable , It is Capable of PCM , It has an exellent Audio Driver , and wide Spectrum Reproduction, I really like the way the headphones sound on the RH1 ( Yamaha RH-5ma 's ) , Recording level on the fly ( beautifull ) Rec level from the Remote W/Meters ( absolutely awesome ) I dont like the Build of the RH1 , But I do like the features , .............. How do you say which is best ??????? The R50 is a Legend in the Audio industry , and among true recordists who have been out in the field and done the work . But when you get home everything is done in real time . The RH1 has made Recording Conveinient , do it , get it home , upload it . The are both Kings in their own right .

Man if you follow the threads , and read some of the comments , it's hilarious

Buy them Both Send me the Country MD's If you want recording on the Fly you will need one with Mic Input ( which is a Stereo Mic in , that will accomodate an Audio Technica AT822 very nicely ) Alot of folks on the board here have benn using MD since the beginning , and the MP3 debate is fun to watch , But MD Most definately sounds better . You can find probably a much nicer MD for not much diference in the money , but the other two would just be nice to have around ( This is the fair warning , You WILL end up collecting a few once you start ) So get a better unit for your needs from the beginning and you will be happy . Browse the Equipment browser below And learn the differences between the recorders and players , there are MANY models out there used , and not all MD's are equal. http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html

I think the Car plaers only play SP mode , and then that Has to be from an MD recorder not the computer I have a freind here in Japan that has MD in the Car , but I have to be carefull about what discs I give him.

List the R&B .

I listened to them this afternoon at Sofmap Gigastore , with my 930 , They were ok , but the higher ohmage really dropped the output , and they didnt fit my ears very well.

Hi Heather glad to have you here , What MD stuff do you have ?

ShadowFax , is the name of the White Horse in Lord of the Rings , The band took the name representing the etherealnes of all things . They Started of with the Windham Hill record label ( I think they have WH as well as GRP and another label , I would have to check on that . ) A lot of Polyrythmic , Modal fusion , with a bit of Escapement built in . In the vein of Concept albumns , but with varying statements . Players from Shadowfax feature widely on other peoples recordings . And have additional memebers on their own . There are two Albumns , with Charlie Bisharat on them , and others where Chic Corea makes a guest showing , etc , Micheal Manring , and others . ShadowFax will enlighten the average Classic Rock Musician or fan , into the world of creative music just Gently enough to decieve them , then Blast their imagination a couple of good times enough , to Really get their attention and keep it , Then proceed to Educate them that there is a world out there they didnt know about . Anyone wish to add to that description???
-
Yeah , 35 Albumns , ... That ACTUALLY SOUND GOOD !!!! lets see...... 35 = about 31 actual hours ( depending on albumns ) 24 hours in a day about 7-8 hours of sleep a day add in work if you hae a Job ( Generally listening at work is frowned upon) Driving to and from work ( No headphones when you drive ) MD Car setups ARE available so that is negotiable Spending some time with the significant other ( I dont think the groove would be quite the same Sharing Phone connects eh!) a few other time detractions I cant immediately think of ( it is 5 am where I am) That adds up to about a weeks worth of music , of course there are the days , where the Phones never leave your head ( Those are nice days too)

I took a look at the 300 dpi pics , the Metal shutter seems to be a bit thicker than standard MD's , so the case may be built with not quite as Brittle of a plastic , or it is a polymer ( looks like it ) which would give better damping to vibrations . Sony has some pro MD's as well and those the the major differences , the Composition of the MD Disc itself is better layered . But again , it just depends on you . The Standard Sony Gold Premiums are pretty darn nice , and havent ever given me trouble. Maxells sometimes crap out , TDK's arent bad , but I do notice better transfers with the Sony's discs. http://www.discountdiscs.co.uk/Merchant2/m...gory_Code=blank That is the Sony Pro blank ,.... Looks a LOT like the HHB
