Christopher
Hello, As you may or may not have noticed, the forums and minidisc.org have been up and down like a good rollercoaster lately. In light of such, we are going to upgrade the forum's server, which is also shared by minidisc.org. Most of you don't know that these combined sites are nearly delivering 14 million page views per month! This is very straining on our 500mhz Celeron with only 256megabytes of RAM [more specs: here]. Unfortunately, servers are expensive these days. There is already a predetermined amount of money set aside for this upgrade, but to sweeten the deal, why not donate to us? Minidisc.org has been the portal for Minidisc information since 1995, delivering more than a couple hundred million page views in it's life and making our community the great one that it is. These forums, whilst young, have served nearly 20 million page views! The total amount of information available at both of these sites is staggering, and we want to make sure that it's never put down to due what has been occuring as of late. We have been hit incessant times by a virus spreading around the internet afflicting severe pain on servers using PHP and phpbb. The virus has not completely invaded, as patches are in place to disallow such. As you may or may not know, the forum I administrate here uses phpbb. We have recieved millions of hits in the last few days from people trying to hack the site, bring it to a crawl at times. Unfortunately in the midst of such, errors resulted from the overflow of activity and caused corruption within the forums. Some of the data was lost [more than a couple thousand topics]. The most important data from these topics was somewhat saved, but unfortunately, a good chunk was lost. To avoid this in the future, we must upgrade and possibly change forum softwares. If you wish to donate to help this forum and minidisc.org get a nice server upgrade for everyone to enjoy the Minidisc experience better, please donate to my paypal account here: All contributions will go towards the server upgrade and perhaps the cost of closed-source forum software. If you are not keen on donating via paypal, please e-mail me at the aforementioned address and we'll work something out. I thank you for your time, and no matter the result, a new server and forum software will come soon to give us the best experience possible. Christopher
Latexxx, we already serve google ads. They're much more obtrusive when you're not logged in. The amount we have total [nothing in hand yet, just promises] is probably around $50ish, maybe more, maybe less. I'll be throwing down a good bit, Eric will be dropping a lump sum.
Syrius
As soon as I get a Paypal transfer to my account, I'll send you some bucks. Hope it helps!

Make it bigger and move it to header instead of footer and you are likely to get some money.
Christopher
Thanks, Syrius. I really appreciate it. Latexxx, I'm not worried about it as the site isn't responsive enough to allow Adsense to be effective. btw, thanks for the donation Bjorn Isebaert! I can not thank you enough for your contribution. All donating people will recieve special benefits when the new server comes around, and they will be nice.

MZ-NH1
I am currently setting up a PayPal account, and have a question, where I can’t find the answer for on the PayPal web site. How do I get money into PayPal so that I am able to pay someone? Can it do a direct debit through my bank account, give them my credit card details and they take money from that? Basically, how do they get my money?
Christopher
If you donate, it automatically deducts from your bank account or whatever account you've attached to the paypal account.

Christopher
Yes, of course. You can always donate to us at the paypal address I've listed. We definitely have to upgrade the server soon, though - so if you want your money to go towards that then if you could get it in on the 7th that would be great. Christopher
I just wanted to thank mrsoul for his contribution. You guys have definitely made my job here feel worthwhile, and I'm glad that you guys are able to help us in our time of need. It looks like the deadline I'd initally enforced is no longer necessary, y'all can donate whenever. I had initally thought that we'd be upgrading at that moment, but it looks like we're going to go with another solution.

Christopher
Seems like the webmaster isn't keen on purchasing hardware this time around, and rather just go with leasing it. The plans and hardware that we'd be leasing would be through a trusted associate of his, so no worries about stability. Plus, it'll be a dedicated server that will definitely be alot better than what we could afford with a monthly price just about the same as he pays for bandwidth currently. So, all of the money that was donated will go towards that, or possibly other add-ons for the forums or something along those lines.
