would you like to share your reasons to buy your existing Hi-MD equipment?

for me why not to buy(I haven't bought one yet) :

1. only the highest model is made in japan

(well, I have a habit of only buy "md like product" which is made in Japan

reason is for the quality, and most important, the size...)

2. the 1st gen model all have recording ability

and there is not deck/mini system I can find in my country(hk)

3. the playing time is really short

and I doubt as times go by, how short would that be

(I think people will understand what I am talking about

as usually, Sony md player really will(due to my personal experience) use up power very quickly after 1 or 2 years of usage

What would be your reason to buy a Hi-MD equipment?

I bought the NH900 because of:

1. PCM recording, and increased capacity in the newer modes.

2. PC data storage and other new features

3. Best battery life and options (compared to the other Hi-MD units)

4. Slimmer/betterlookibng than the lower-end units (especially black)

5. Uploading potential

6. Digital amp/EQ

7. Compatibility with existing MD collection

etc - I'm sure there must be others

I bought a NH900, because

1. I want to load and edit my recorded books on the computer faster than real time

2. price -> with 5 HiMD I can have a lot of music/whatever with me when I travel

3. 1 Gb storage under every system, MacOSX, Linux, and even Windows

4. Easy exchange of music with friends/girlfriend ...and what is nicer than a personally composed MD send to you via mail. Try this with an IPod! tongue.gif

5. Strange but true I like the format laugh.gif

Anybod found out how you can change the european NH900 from 3 mW to 5mW?

Just because I wanted something to record myself playing my violin, alone or in group. I knew that MD recorders are among the preferred choices of amateur and professional musicians. I'm appreciating my MZ-NH1 as a really good quality walkman as well. I'm totally new to this world, I have owned it for a few months. I'm happy with it. The only thing that bothers me is the silly restriction in the MD to PC transfer.

Ey.... exact same reason.

I play violin (and guitar) and wanted something portable which I could record and listen to which wouldn't be so bulky.

However, I got the mznh700 model cause I didn't really need the extra features and would rather save up the money for something useful (or keep it for the next gen models if they have something useful and revolutionary - like unlimited transfers back to pc *fingers crossed*)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have moved to HiMD not so much for the Data handling feature, I have tried listening to Word documents on HiMD and the sound quality is dreadful!

Seriously though, I find both MD and the new HiMD perfect for me as I record loads of stuff off the radio (DAB) and listen to it at work on my MZ-R500 and MZ-NH700, in the car etc. 7hrs and 55miutes on a HiMD, fantastic and the best thing of all, the HiMD machine recording in HiSP is probably capable of better sound quality that I am getting from my FM or DAB Radio tuners.

Personally I find the quality of BBC Radio 3 on DAB recorded on MD and HiMD excellent.

I have recorded thousands of hours (about 16 hours of BBC Radio 4 per week for years) on my Sony MDS JB940 without any problems. As for the Data usage, I have worked on a complicated 3D engineering model in AutoCAD working from the HiMD MZ-NH700 and it worked perfectly and quite fast too. AutoCAD needs to update the file regularly as you work so it was accessing the HiMD disc all the time and it did so with no problems! I have not found it necessary to use HiMD as a storage device but I have used it for moving data files from work to home to laptop etc. without any errors so far. I would also use it for data storage with confidence if I needed to.

We can only base our opinions on personal experience, after thousands of hours of use over many years and I can honestly say that MD is as reliable as my Studer A807 Mk 2 reel to reel machine for music, spoken word etc. I have reused my MDs hundreds of times using stereo, mono, LP2 and LP4 and had no problems.

In the bad old days I used to record programs longer than 45 minutes on the reel to reel then copy them to Cassettes so I could listen to them on the walkman.

I can’t believe I went to all that trouble.

I bought the 600D as I only had a Aiwa AM-F80 MD and wanted a MDLP player...my 6 yr old took off with my N505 and won't give it back. Now I

have to keep him away from my good headphones.

I just picked up a used NH900 for $180....figured what the heck.

So why....I like fiddling with things. MDs are great to fiddle with like cassettes and film.
