the RRP was significantly reduced in australia last week, about $100-150 across the board & nobody pays RRP, right [JB hifi]?

it'll still be cheaper to buy in japan but take local warranty into account, costs for non local sony repair can be horrific in australia.

anyway you should be able to get an aus delivered one fr about au$530 at JB

& they were about 40,000+ yen or about au$480

perhaps someone in tokyo could quote bic camera price?

also consider if you have no other mds buying it in advance will give you a chance to create discs for the trip.

one other thing

this & this will be on the street by the time you get there

buying this unit in Japan seems unnecessary

this model is made in Japan anyways(should be?)

you won't get warranty service if u buy it in Japan(hope it is right, coz I am not sure if there is still international models still remains in Sony, seems this thing int'l models is gone)

for a 1st gen machine like NH1, warranty service from manufacturer is very important for 2 main reasons :

1. if any outsider are gonna repair it for u, they are gonna get the parts for Sony at a very high price(compare to replacement of parts in the warranty period, stock from Sony in your region won't need u pay any money)

2. outsider may not have the skill to repair it, and if u ask Sony to repair these parallel import stock, the price will be extremely high

3. for a new product in new technology like Hi-MD, the chance of needing to repair is comparatively higher to product exist for long time(e.g. MD/NetMD unit now)

it would be a better choice now to get a PSP in Japan if u or ur friends or ur relatives would like to have one

the 1st lot of PSP in Japan will be much better in quality than the ones u are gonna get at ur local store in Aus

the monitor would be different

the late shipment will have monitor made by Samsung other than Sharp

which may look dimmer

No sightings of the 2nd generation units, but space has been cleared in the Sony section of  all three retailers; Bic, Ishimaru, and Yodobashi, since last weekend.

oh god, we can have a japanese spy here to wait for the latest news on Hi-MD in Japan ohmy.gif

Unfortantely all the ones around me sold out (yea caused by me!). I rang them up (due to another issue, security guard harrased and manhandled my girlfriend, because she didn't let him check her empty bag, it was obviously empty, also threatned me) and asked when they were getting more in. The guy seemed to say that they weren't getting anymore in at that price and it was a special deal. He also made out that they were thinking of dropping MD players to allow for more HDD players too.

Hi-MD Blanks have also come down to AU$4.75 at JB. still AU$10 everywhere else!
