I bought one last week simply as a portable player and it seems excellent to my ears. Certainly better than the iPod Mini that it replaced (iPod Mini got stolen). I don't use it for recording, as a picked up a lovely MDS-JB980 the other day which I use for playing/recording MDs at home with the rest of my hifi gear.

I used to have one.

Very decent player, my brother now uses it as a USB mass storage device.

I thought I broke mine (turns out it was the discs) so bought an NW-HD3 instead.

Totally loving the HD3.

Minidisc players are good until you want to use them as 1 big jukebox. I have 1,700 tracks which isn't practical on MiniDisc player cuz you'de need 2-3 discs which is no good when you just want a good old shuffle of EVERYTHING (which I do frequently)

It is dependant on your needs though - as a replacement cassette or CD player - a minidisc player is fine. Myself, I prefer to carry ALL of my music round with me, so I can listen to what I like depending on my mood.

The 600D is the only HIMD unit I own right now, it's alright, the build quality is not what I've been use to out of my other MDs I've owned before. The trick with it is not to pay too much for it, it's reallly not worth more than $100s or so. I got mine day after Christmas at Circuit City for (drum roll please) $29.00+tax after a $25.00 gift card. Now that's a good price for it. None the less, I still look forward to getting the RH910 avaible at this home theater shop in Charlestown.POE
