Then there are those of us who don't think it is real...just a superstition people practice.

There isn't tangible evidence that it exists except for subjective listening. On the other hand, there isn't tangible evidence that people who say it is necessary are wrong. You need to try it out for yourself. Of course to take away the factor of "becoming accustomed to the sound" you should start with two pair of the same 'phones; one to burn-in and the other as your control group to compare with the burned-in set.

i believe in it , totally. I was just saying that instead of leaving the hedphones playing music for hours without listening to it, I prefer to hear the music while burning in, so I can notice the improvement over the days.

BTW I've heard many people who don't believe in burn-in as you bland. What can I say... I'm a believer!

I think I am right behind you, bland10000 (with the caveat that I may well be wrong, so you may put me down as "agnostic"), but I suspect that the "burn-in brigade" may well also be using gold-plated mains plugs on their equipment . . . :P

for me it's quite simple: when I go and buy a new pair of headphones, no way that I'm going to wait 150+ hours till I can use them  I just start using them right away because of two main reasons:

- they will burn in anyway (whether it is real or not, I don't really care... if it is real then it will happen anyway, if it isn't I haven't wasted so many hours not listening :P )

- I do believe that the sound 'improves' in the first 100 hours... not necessarily by 'burn in' (as I said, no clue whether it really exists) but certainly because I get used to the sound pattern/signature of the phones and other parameters like finding the best eq-setting for the phones... I really enjoy the adaptation of my brain to the phones and if the phones also adjust to my brain that would be very polite indeed :D
