hey md community

I once was a member but have not posted in years.

Well, due to the flood in my studio from recent rains here in pennsylvania I have lost my sharp md 722

which I have had since it's release to replace my md701 which died of utoc error poisoning. :(

I have bit the bullet and ordered the Sony MZRH1 from sony style.com.12 months no payment no interest @349.00 US

that will / should be there when I arrive home from work today.

Iam anxious to get the "# ! # ! " out of here

I would have gone home for lunch if i was sure it would be there then but it is not expected to arrive until after 3.

I am happy to be back to the md community.

You can expect a review soon

m

@ MTVictor... welcome back to MD-land  hope you'll enjoy the RH1 as much as I do!

Thank you Lo-Vo

Yesterday my drive home from work was filled with excitement ,but as I approached the parking spot in front of the ranch

I was dissapointed to see no Fed Ex delivery.

Once inside, low and behold on the floor near the door a "you were not home deliver tomorrow" slip :( .

Fortunately the FedEx package hub for my area is just a 15 minute drive .

So, off I went to retrieve my precious RH-1.

Back home to check this mutha out.

I wanted to document the opening process with digi pics but my wife had the nikon and I was to anxy to wait for her return.

Out of the box and into the current to charge the gumstick .

This thing is the millenium falcon of all minidisc reorders !

It looks like shrunken stereo component imho.

I have not delved into allthe functions of operation due to domestic tasks I was expected to perform

i.e.lawn work, dinner ,dishes, and today is trash day.

So today my anxiety is just as high .

Can not wait to get home to truely put this monster through its paces :maninlove:

Stay tuned ,more to come

Victor, if you have the chance to take some pics and/or are planning to write a decent review... be sure to start a thread for this in the product reviews/pictorials section of the board as it would get 'lost' here in this long thread soon

Olga... have a look around these forums... lots of ppl have got the RH1 and the new version of SS (which is 4.0 and doesn't ship with the RH1 which still comes with 3.4) and have written lots of posts about them. I urged MTVictor to post a review/pictorial as you just can't have enough of those really  but there are a lot already (one pictorial by my as well :P )

the RH1 is already available in Belgium (Brussels) so you should be able to get one if you want

the newest version of SS (4.0 at this moment) is available for downloads in the MDCF-downloads section by the way

hello, mac user here. and ready to buy the MZ-RH1 as soon as i see it here in Italy.

one thing seems unclear, maybe someone can clear it up. I thought one of the new features was being able to import

old , normal md recordings made on old units. But, as i look on sites where it is for sale, i find this:

USB uploading with MAC (using supplied Hi-MD Music Transfer software):

Using the supplied Hi-MD Music Transfer software, you can do a high speed digital transfer of your Hi-MD recordings to your MAC computer. The audio data is automatically converted to unrestricted .WAV files. Note: Only LinearPCM, Hi-SP and Hi-LP self-recordings made with the MZ-RH1 can be uploaded.

does that mean it can only upload old recordings using a PC, and that only recordings made on this unit (or another HI-MD) can be uploaded to a MAC? thats what it looks like to me, but i could be missing a lot of background info.

thanks for the help.

yes, that is exactly what it means... but it is even a bit more strict, only HiMD-mode (HiLP, HiSP or PCM) recordings made with a mac-compatible HiMD-recorder (wich is the MZ-M10, M100, M200 and RH1 and no other machine) can be uploaded to mac

the old discs can be uploaded to PC though

I received my RH1 last week. In general I like it...

I was VERY SURPRISED to see that I was able to upload a pre-recorded MD to my PC!! I expected that I would be able to upload my own recordings, but this is copyrighted music! I then assumed that conversion to WAV would be prohibited, but my mouth fell wide open then: I actuall managed to convert to WAV format as well!

(I did this excercise on Classic Williams-Romance of the Guitar, SM89141)

I do miss the click wheel of my MZ-R30 to walk through my songs, don't know how other people keep overview of their music when 20-30 CD's are stored on their RH1. I therefore ordered the RM-MC40ELK, even though it is bulky...

I also think the OL display is a nice gimmick, but unusable at day in sunlight. And the included remote doesn't show record levels (so SONY: how do you use this think for field recording, or do you work at night only). So once again I hope the RM-MC40ELK will help me here (why not included it as standard remote?)

What I like most is decent control over recording level.

Now still waiting for someone to help me getting MD Simple Burner to work (because it doesn't recognize my CD).

I'm mainly in to live recording of birdsong, some church bells, dummy head stereo, and some minor music events.

I have the NH900 (for use in bright daylight, display is useless in dim lighting), the RH10 - lovely display in the dark (but bought to safeguard the playing of my HiMD discs should the NH900 fail when it looked as though Sony were dumping Minidisc) and now the RH1. Along the line I bought the RM-MC40ELK direct from the US/Japan (only to find it on sale, separately, in the UK and at much the same price!).

I like the RH1, but that uses the new LiIon battery (and there's a separate thread on this). I do struggle at times remembering how to get the desired Menu option on the machine/RM I'm using at the time, and then there's the problem that not all RMs deliver a full featured range of options.

All in all, I consider that Sony's marketing is superb and somewhat cynical. They've sold me 3 HiMD machines whereas if the decent features were all in one machine, I would have bought two at the most.

Thanks for the advice The Low Volta . They say on the French md forum that in an e-mail to one of the members Sony said that the RH1 would be available in France on Nov.26 so I guess there is hope .About Sonic Stage not being SS4 with the Rh1.. I don't really see why it wouldn't automatically be the latest version of Sonic Stage ,but as you suggested I will have to do a bit of homework on the subject and delve into the archives of the forum .I'm currently using SS2 but I have to find out if it's safe for me to download the SS4 version . And I must also find the right place to post my comments and ask questions about Sonic Stage ,because I realize I have to adhere to the rules and stick to the subject in any given thread . " Ta " as they say in England (=thanks)

I have SS 3.4 installed, and I plan to shift to SS 4.0 at the end of the month. However, I don't want to lost my library. I will back it up, and try to restore it. Is there anything else that I should do to prepare to change from 3.4 to 4.0?

I already have:

1) Backup my SS library and save to a different disk to restore after 4.0 installation.

2) Uninstall 3.4 before installing 4.0.

Anything else? Any registry cleaning or manual deletions necessary before installing 4.0?

@ Olga: welcome to MDCF and feel free to ask further questions about SS (if you still have some after reading a bit :P ) in the 'software support' subsection

@ Fat Muttony: please read the one but last sentence by Olga in the post above...

Ok - hope you don't mind, but I think this mega-thread has run it's course.

Now that the RH1 is out there in the market (for those that can find it) if we have specific questions relating to the RH1 can we post them in the relevant sections as it is easier to track for all - cheers.
