Great news for anybody going to Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing later this year. The Black RH1 WILL definitely be available in Hong Kong and hence also in those other 2 great chinese cities.

I suspect the Black RH1's will be independently sourced from Japan but there does seem to be considerable interest in this unit in Hong Kong (and not only from the "Expatriate" UK community working out there).

For people in the UK wanting a Black RH1 sourcing it from Hong Kong will probably be easier (and cheaper) since this type of trade in the UK is quite common (and a lot easier for individuals than buying from Japan).

Nearer the time I'll try and post a couple of links about getting it from Hong Kong.

Cheers

From what we understand now though it is the black unit that will be available in the EU anyway.

Great news. In fact, to me, this is really too good to be true as I had guessed there will be no more new MD/HiMD units can be found in HK.

Is the topic title still holds true?

Recently, Sony HK has removed all their MD products (RH10, RH910, etc) from their official website and only retains their network walkman (A series) in there. I'm a bit worried about this.

Has anyone heard anything regarding a release in North America, the U.S. in particular? We are getting pretty much ignored by Sony as of late. Heck, we still don't have ANY of the A-series players (flash or HDD models). All we have are Beans and E-series flash units. To top it off the HD5 isn't offered by Sony either. The RH910 and RH10 are the only MD models sold by Sony as well. I think Sony has pretty much abandoned the U.S. market in regards to their portable audio products.

My girlfriend works for an airline and recently had a stop-over in Hong Kong.

I said to her that if she had the chance, to go into a couple of shops and see if she could get some nice blank minidiscs for me.

So she went to three different shops and got the same response from all of them. "No, no....minidisc no more...they don't make anymore...everything ipod now...you want to buy ipod???"

Kind of ironic, seeing that the new RH1 has just been released in Japan.

Sign of the times I guess....such a shame.
