Question

Here's my list of upgrades/options I would like to see..

1: Menu option for screen to stay on all the time if required by user.

2: Something more descriptive / informative / interesting on screen when connected to p.c. [other than just 'connecting'.

3: Direct drag and drop / playability into device without Connect software.

4: Better 'screen saver' images [the ones that float past when playing].

5: Connectivity / interaction with car stereo [ipod can do it].

6: Controlable from p.c. when connected but audio thru unit's audio output socket and not through p.c. [net md could do it].

I think they are all viabl and easy requests to do, also as far as load times, for the connect software, I have close to 3000 songs loaded, and connect load time is less than 25 secs. Mind you I rebuilt my system to see what would happen with a fresh OS install, and have put all my games back on now, and its running slick. When I orginally installed connect on the old system before I had all kinds of issues, was very preturbed, and almost sent my NW3000 back. Figured I t was a good time to format all my systems and I'm happy with the performace of everything now.

5: Connectivity / interaction with car stereo [ipod can do it].

I've got a box of tricks that lets me do that. It's a connection box that attaches to the Autochanger input of a Sony head unit. It was designed to work with the NW-HD3 where you have full control and see track names, etc on head unit display.

It partially works on NW-A series - you can go back and forward between tracks on the currently playing section (album, genre, playlist) but you can't easily swap albums and track info doesn't appear on screen.

There's a page of them here http://www.ukaudioshop.com/categories.asp?cID=147 - not cheap but I blagged mine :)

drag and drop without CP? seeing that sony is crazy about DRM, this is highly unlikely.

screensavers are a gimick and suck up battery life, so they are pointless. #1 isn't something I really need. i do agree with #2 100% though.

as for the others, wasn't there a unit at CES released that allows hook up to the car stereo? unless you want a cradle?

sublime, the least played songs are actually the ones with the least stars, when you skip a song before 10 seconds has elapsed the star rating goes down automatically. I don't use the top 100, mostly now stick with playlists.

What I really want:

number 1 and 2 of the startpost :)

That player will not connect directly when you turn on your computer.

I can't play music when the A3000 in in the cradle and the computer is on (I don't want to disconnect the USB cable every time).

To choose a Smaller font on the screen should also be great (them most of the titles are too long to display it correct)

And finally a good car adapter, like the cradle.. It's not nescessary to use the headphone output to get music, so a good car adapter (like a phone carkit) should be great.

I have a clean install, and Connect takes almost 3 minutes to open up, and another 5 to settle down, before I can do anything useful. 8 MINUTES. On a AMD 3500+ with 1GB of RAM. Quality software... (not).

My content is located on a server, connected via a wireless (54G) link. I can understand the slow transfers, as it has to transfer across the wifi, but the startup is no excuse...

#1 - For some reason, when selecting an "All Songs" by an Artist, it lists the tracks in alphabetical order rather than in album/track order. It's annoying as it means listening to an Artist's discography in an album order is only possible by creating a custom playlist. When you have more then 20 artists, it's a bit tedious to do it.

#2 - The ability to queue albums/playlists. Can't believe they missed this one. It's impossible to listen to one album/playlist all the way through and go straight onto the next without creating a specific playlist.

#3 - To be to disable the screensaver. It looks pretty. But I don't see it in my pocket. It may as well switch off altogether and save the battery.

I would like to be able to search by album artist as ell as track artist - if I have a number of compilations all by various artists it is quicker to find "various artists" rather than trawl through all the albums until I find the one I want. If I can do it on the connect player, why can't I do it on the player itself?

i think the essential bug in the player firmware, is that it start playing the 1st item on the device, I have a album, with a title ab...... It always starts playing it, and it's number 1, in my Top 100, even thouhgh I hate the track!!!!

Having my least favorite track, as my Number 1, means there is something wrong....

Yeah, i know. But that won't work if you rate them manually.

I'm sure i got songs with a good rating which i tend to forget to play. Well, that's not a problem, but it would be a lil nice feature

Perhaps the startup routine checks your library for changes on startup. If so, recursing a large file directory over WiFi would definitely cause a slowdown.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

So even if I was playing in shuffle mode it won't start with a random track when it boots?

Or, at least, it won't start with the last track listened?

Shift the buttons from the bottom to the top of the player (or put the volume control down near the buttons) so everything is in the same part of the player.

Reading this wish list makes me sick!!!!

Sony should have solved all of this BEFORE selling the damn thing.

I've seen a lot - but what Sony is doing with us is going to break their necks. And I hope it does because I'm selling my NW-A1000..........I don't want to see that damn thing any more.

Nobody I know wants to buy one after I reported all of the bugs.

There are so many other GOOD MP3 players.

I disagree, the volume is in the perfect place when you hold the player, and is easily accessible using the thumb.

Yes, My first choice was to have all the controls up near the top of the player near the volume control.

How come the USB connector at the bottom doesn't have a little plastic cover like the E400/500 or Minidiscs. It is bigger so more junk could easily get in it. Also the same for the remote socket as it is rather exposed, it is not a real problem to me as I use an MC35-ELK most of the time.

Sony do explain this, either in the manual or on the support website i think. Apparently it's because Windows recognises 1gb different to the player or something...? So it is 20gb, but Windows calculates it as 18.2.... i think i've got that right...

1. Keep the menu on whatever screen it was on after the OLED turns off.. It's annoying scrolling to a particular song or album and then having to re-navigate because the screen "loses" it's place when it goes off.

2. Allow the choice between PC or Line-out playback when connected to a computer via the USB cable (for charging)

3. Allow the option of queuing of playlists or jumping to another playlist/album when the current one has finished.

I think Sony reads some forums if not this one, otherwise they would not know what needs to be fixed.
