it basically means you are locked into Windows. :P

a dynamic disk can organise storage in an uncontingious manner, meanig you can allocate storage to different drives where needed.

got rid of flash from all home computers and even from the new notebook computer that had it out of the box never to install the plugin for www browsing again

wasn't happy with flash because macromedia streaming video is near impossible to save, flash banners are often unstoppable and the way it contaminates browsers

 Well after changing some icons in windows, i somehow got the 'open folder' icon to have a new action there, i didnt add it, it just got there lol, called 'find', and then i couldnt get any folders open, every time i double clicked, the windows search tool would come up, so i tried loading the old icons again, but nothing, still same crap. Then i tried to do a system restore, but because i was monitoring both my externall hdd and internal i think that caused problems because it isnt always connected, so i couldnt do that. So I was stuffed either way and thought i'll try a windows xp restore from booting with the xp cd, well you'd think it would work but next thing i know its telling me it cant find a file and cant continue setup. So guess what happened next? I had to reformat my entire hdd. luckily ive got all my games etc backed up and stuff, but still. Well anyway, thats what ive been shizzing off with since yesterday 11pm. went to bed at two, finished fixing the whole thing at 10;30.

Sooooo, what have you done to your computer recently, good or bad, upgrade, or whatever do share ^_^

Hey Greg,

I faced this problem as well a few weeks ago. In case you (or anyone) every encounter it again, Microsoft has instructions on how to sort it out here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186/en-us

My latest action? I've just installed Firefox and Thunderbird to run my new Nerdshack e-mail address.

Bwahahaha, I recently killed my CPU. RIP s939 Venice 3000+ :P

I took off the IHS some time last year and the CPU ran fine until I decided to give it a good rebuild, and while slapping back on the ol' Thermalright I cracked the core by accident. Tried to glue the IHS back and tried to RMA it but they found out ROFL. No dramas though, thanks to AM2 a replacement Venice will set me back like AUD120 which is basically stuff all. :D

Well, with my new Linux partition... I finally got XGL & Compiz working (failed twice resulting in the need to reinstall the OS). Some seriously awesome eye-candy. :D

Here's a vid for those who aren't familiar: http://www.freedesktop.org/~davidr/xgl-demo1.xvid.avi ( go here instead: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1...20719&q=xgl )

Yeah it's real. :P I got it running on Ubuntu... I followed this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=131267

Be careful though, I tried this twice before I found that particular How-To thread and had to reinstall Ubuntu both times (lost GUI completely and was stuck at a command prompt). So be sure to backup anything important before you try.

Also I think you need a pretty decent graphics card. I have a nVidia GeForce FX Go (5100 I think). That particulat How-To thread is for nVidia, but it has a link for ATI cards as well.

Well I have now update the XGL/Compiz to XGL/Beryl under my Dapper install.. I initially didn't think it would be that much of a difference, but WOW! This is really awesome!

Here is a video that shows some of the aspects of it:

Somewhat similar to what Compiz was, but waaay better, and much easier to tweak and configure.

Too bad my comp doesn't support 3D acceleration! :(

I ended putting windows back on it, well at least till we get a router that likes ipv6.

Windows is really bugging me!

But that would be real neat if i could get it to work. (If only)
