Best place to buy minidiscs

Hi everyone. I've just received my rh1 and I'm getting excited about recording! I also sort of mistakenly bought an N10 before realizing no upload but it is a nice recorder and player. I really like the build quality better than the rh1.

My questions is where is a good place to purchase minidisc.. both Hi-md and md. Am I correct that the Hi-md won't work in the N10?

Are minidiscs sold in brick and mortar retail outlets like circuit city or radio shack anymore?

Best price I know of for Hi-MD blanks is here:

http://www.tapewarehouse.com

It's hard to navigate, but if you click through:

Catalog/Digital Audio/Mini-Disc Audio

And then find SCM HMD1G Hi-MD...

Those are real second-generation (blue) Sony 1GB Hi-MD discs for $4.67 each. They also have standard MDs, $10.72 for an eight-pack, but you can probably find similar prices on those elsewhere. Circuit City and Best Buy have had them in the past but they don't show up on the websites--stores might still have some leftovers.

J&R in New York City also has blank discs:

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=2041612

Get Sony discs if possible, though I've done fine with Fuji, TDK and Denon as well. Avoid Maxell, Memorex and Hi-Space.

Hi-MD discs won't play in the N10. Regular MDs will play in the Hi-MD unit.

To have regular MDs play in both units they have to be recorded in SP, LP2 or LP4 (but LP4 sounds pretty lame). Regular MDs can also be used for Hi-SP, Hi-LP and about 27 minutes of PCM, but then they will only play in a Hi-MD unit.

 Yes indeed ! I just bought both Hi-MD and standard MD blanks in FRY'S at El Segundo, CA. Hi-MD were 6.99 USD each and MD's 1.37 (each, in a 10-box). I guess it is the same price as on Sony's website.

Both Sony brand.

I went to clean out (bought 6 5-packs today out of the stock 9) whatever stock of Sony Premium Gold Series MDs they had left at Best Buy down in Silverdale today, and plan to go back there this weekend for the rest of them. You can also find more online, not only on eBay, but also at MiniDisco, as well as MiniDisc Access, and MiniDisc Canada.

Also I intend to stock up on HMD1GL (second generation Blue series) Hi-MD blanks online (also available from all three) later next week, to use as data storage and also for experimenting with linear PCM recording on my MZ-NH700, after I figure it out.

Now IS the "11th hour" for this legendary highly-underrated ATRAC-based format that we have loved since 1992, so get them befor they are gone for good.

I have been into the MD format since 1998, and the Hi-MD format since its debut in 2004, and I will never give it up no matter what happens.

Greetings,

Here is an FYI-

I just found Sony 1GB HiMDs at Fry's. All they had were single packs @ $7 each + tax. But, to me that was a great find.

And, I had $1 and change left over. Their 99cent coffee is better than Starbucks so I had one.

I would buy online buy most of the time the shipping charges are out of line @ $6 to $8.

What's the name of the store? If it is a chain, I wonder if they have any in the metro NY area?

I can only hope... :scratchhead:
