e1ghtyf1ve
Anyway, Sony are BASTARDS !If they do so, of courseNo, they are just responding to market realities. The RH1 is unique in that it also is identical to the M200 pro model. The consumer channel seldom stays open for more than a year, and we all knew (or strongly suspected) that the RH1 was going to be the last consumer MD hurrah. However, the M200 will continue to be supported (and probably sold) for some time to come. There simply are no good alternatives in that price range yet, and Sony is well aware of that fact.As I stated in the other 'RH1 is dying, OMG!' thread, there's nothing to really see here, move along... e1ghtyf1ve
I heard somewhere that they earn quite alot from RH1 ?Am I right ?Perhaps someone with more 'inside info' can chime in here. What we do know, however, is that HiMD has been positioned as a low-end DAT replacement starting with the M-series, i.e. M10, M100, M200, ... It was only a matter of time before the transition from a consumer product to a professional one would be made, as it appears to have been recently.Look, MD has been dead in the consumer market for a long time. The public has voted with their wallets (in more ways than one! ) and seem content to purchase flashier player-only gadgets with no record capabilities and crummy DACs to listen to even crummier quality downloaded tunes.I still enjoy listening to the superior sound quality of my DAT machines, even though most of them have been out of production for ages. I also take comfort in the fact that I possess the ultimate freedoms of creating my own compilations without paying for the same thing over and over again, and that my original MD media from the mid-90s are still going strong whereas several CD-Rs and DVD-Rs have gone south on me that are much newer. And don't get me started on the problems my flash recorders are having.
j-dawg
Agreed! The pro-audio section is pretty much where the RH1/M200 belongs. What does Joe-iTunes need with an RH1? Not much. Unless he joins a band, or starts taking voice lessons, or has children who have band concerts, etc. M200 outta be quite relavent until flash memory prices drop to $7/Gb. Since Sony moved much of the production to Malaysia and China , they have saved 'Some' money on the RH1 but not as much as you would think. Even the MZ-B10 is made in Malyasia ( which they will still be carrying for langauge /student purposes , I checked) But The R&D , Time constraints and design factors of the MD recorders , are somewhat prohibitive of Sony advancing into other markets . Therefore they have decided to turn their attention elsewhere. I grabbed a Catalouge to see what they had in it for 2007 , Mostly IC Recorders , The B10 ( it was the only MD listed) and get this , CASSETTE recorders ( with AM/FM Radio of course) and the shirt pocket flash recorders/notetakers . What I see is that after the Flop with the PS3 , Sony is going to strip off all uneccessary infringements on their concentration , so they can try to dig themselves out of the financial mess , and Try to get a better grip on the movement of current and future Market infrastructure. I dont think they see the MD as a Viable part of that Infrastructure. To Confirm that, several store in my area have the Sony Niege 74 Blank MD's 10 pack for 598 yen , they are clearing them out , I bought 4 10 packs today Edited May 25, 2007 by Guitarfxr
